Brilliant timing. I have a friend who has just started down this route with a fixed wing project and who I have just pointed in the direction of this series. It will save him asking me questions I don't know the answer to :D

+didactylos4 diddy4 thanks! Tell him the manual is actually very good but can look a little daunting as it's so big/comprehensive. This series will be going on over the next 6-8 weeks.. Happy flying!

Anybody know where I can get an airspeed sensor for the vector these days? Or if any others work? I notice the MFD one has the same number of wires but that’s all I know. Can’t find any info about how the signal from the vectors sensor works

So glad you're doing this series. I'm hoping you can cover setting up some sort of a "launch mode" to use for trickier airplanes. I've been trying to use the 2d-plus-up-elevator method and it keeps rolling my (heavyish) mini-talon into the ground. I'm guessing there is some extensive PID/gain tweaking that might be needed so hopefully you can cover that in a practical level of detail. Thanks!
@wildtexusa7 жыл бұрын
Right - my issues are when I'm using 2d with a bit of up elevator that I get the problem. I suspected torque but figured it might be something else because manually I can take off ok (a little squirrelly but still fine - just would prefer some automation to take the stress out). When I switch on 2d (with or without some up elevator), things end up badly for my launch - I don't even seem to be able to correct the roll with the sticks. When I'm already up flying around, 2d seems to work fairly well. It's an 8x6 prop on a 1250kv motor
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
+wildtexusa if you're already using the Vector then I'd look at using the logfiles with Eagletree support to see what you need to tweak.. best of luck!

First off, thanks for all of you series. You are an excellent teacher and I learn lots from you. I own and operate the Vector on in F550 Hexccopter and love it. It was my initial entry into the hobby and I was able to set it up immediately. One slight issue I am having is with the software display on my laptop which is more of an annoyance than anything. It is a Lenovo Yoga Pro with ultra Hugh resolution display. I cannot get the GPS map to display full screen in the latest software version and the team at Eagle tree has not been successful in identifying the issue. It worked fine in previous version, but the latest version uses only about 1/4 of my screen making it nearly uunusable. Of course have tried all screen resolutions etc to no avail. I would also be interested in knowing what screen resolution you are running so I can maximize the basic software display to take the entire screen as it did in this video you made.. Looking forward to the series.

Always wanted one. But also wondered if it flies as good as F3 boards. I belive it's got one F1 chip or similar which is kind of out dated by now. Micro vector on the other hand is faster. But does it matter? How good of a performer is it in acro?
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
+I.C Productions if the hardware can run the software then it's all good. Remember, this is not an open source system with lots of choices for flight controllers and confusion about compatability. That's part of the ease of a closed product - the hardware and software are designed to work hand in hand.
@icp-trek7 жыл бұрын
I would appreciate if you could review the performance in acro or 3D as i belive the vector calls it. Preferably on a multi rotor.
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
+I.C Productions I'm not planning on looking at that. If you want Acro then go Betaflight, if you want GPS with low cost FCs and similar Acro then look at iNav. See the flight controller comparison video I did recently ;)
@icp-trek7 жыл бұрын
None feature reliable tested RTL as the vector.
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
+I.C Productions I think the Ardupilot owners may disagree with you there ;) every system is a compromise and no one FC and firmware are masters of everything. I'll look at acro if I can in this series. Thanks for the idea!

i cant decide between this naza or pixhawk. It for my AVP i am building. Got to be not to complicated so i think pix out. Is the vector a lot more difficult to set up than the naza ? I am a bit of tech tard you see. *BGB*
@Painless3606 жыл бұрын
I've not used the Naza myself but from what I understand it's a lot more closed down. If you want stable flight then both the Pixhawk and Vector are good choices. See my comparison video on them (Google something like 'Pixhawk vector painless360' to find it) for a more in depth look..

Hi, I would like to see how you set up the failsafe, I read the PDF and contacted ET and still don't have enough answers. Everything else works and flys fine and RTH works via a switch. I have placed the taranis in range mode (to reduce the rssi) while flying to see if it would RTH automatically, but it didn't turn around and ET suggested this was a bad idea. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Mark
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
+maba dajo covered in the next video. Select no pulses as the failsafe on the reciever and connect to the vector using sbus. Then rebind the Rx then ensure that you're got the failsafe configured as Sbus in the GUI and it'll see it. See that next video...

Thanks for taking the time to do this series and the Pix2.1. I am trying to decide between the two for a wing project I am researching. Do you have any input as which one you would choose?
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
+The Introvert Speaks lots of factors to consider. If you are planning to fly FPV and are happy with basic mission flying then the Vector is a good choice..
@TheIntrovertSpeaks7 жыл бұрын
Painless360 I plan to gradually increase the level of difficulty from waypoint planning to complex altitude and heading changes. FPV would be a fun feature but not a necessity. I would like one with ease of integration into camera and fumble control if possible. I think a recon/mapping platform would be the closest way to describe it.
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын

Dear Painless, I have enjoyed your videos and learned much of how to put my freestyle quad together and keep it in the air. I am now coming to you with a request for some really specific help with a project I have in mind; I have recently returned to Namibia where I am involved with the collaring and monitoring of wildlife (large carnivores mainly but also elephants and maybe other species in the future). I wish to build a long-range fixed-wing platform capable of carrying a radio-telemetry receiver to accomplish aerial tracking of radio-collared animals. I also would like it to be able to carry a gimbal mounted camera for recording video of the animals in question. If this piques your curiosity then let me know and I will give you my personal work email address that we can communicate more efficiently. If this is not up your street I would appreciate if you have any ideas of others who might be able to help me. Kind regards. Stubee.

+stubee this is not something I would regularly involved with. I've worked with others on projects using Pixhawk for survellance/tracking or mapping but nothing using radio collars.. Best of luck!

Painless360 Yeah. I have one in a Bix3 that took a turn for the worse last week :( and I'm waiting to maiden my new FX-61 with one if its decent Sunday. Hope they sent you an eagleeyes to go with it! I just built one and was testing it when the Bix decided to freak out when I tested failsafe with transmitter switched off - probably my fault, it'd been rock solid until then. I've only just got into fixed wing so I'm no vector expert, hoping to catch some tips.
