These are an amazing series of videos about refinishing 3D printed models. How this series doesn't have hundreds of thousands of views is beyond me. I can't wait to put these tips into action with my upcoming 3D projects. Thanks!!

Try an oil wash. A lot of mini painters are starting to use it. Basically oil paint and c mineral spirits. Great coverage and capillary action. Just use a towel do in mineral spirits to remove it from the high areas. Oil paints are cheap too. Down side. It takes a long time to dry.

Will PLA plastic models be damaged when encountering moisture in the air?
@ItsMeaDMaDe Жыл бұрын
They can absorb some modified but not to the point it will damage your print.

Hi, I was wondering, the quantity of ink wash that you made in the video seems like quite a bit. Can ink was made in that amount be stored away to use on another project down the road? Thank you in advance. Great video series by the way.

Greetings from Germany, awesome detailed Video, thx. When I wanna use Acrylic Paint instead of Ink, how much do I fill in? Water=60%, thats clear, but do I fill up with the Paint to 100, like U did with the MM?
@ItsMeaDMaDe2 жыл бұрын
When I first started out I used acrylic paint. There really isn’t a magic percentage. I would recommend for your first time doing a small amount and experiment with a adding a little bit at a time until you achieve your desired darkness for the wash. I will use a failed print and base coat it and use that as a test. Hope this answer helps.

Is this wash the same as makine a glaze? I have a satin medium i think its glazing medium would that work the same?
@Ultimaniacx42 жыл бұрын
I didn't catch if you said it in the video but did you seal the model before washing? I've found that these cheap acrylic paints start to break down and flake off if they get that soaked and then rubbed.
@ItsMeaDMaDe2 жыл бұрын
Yeah so cheaper paints don’t fair well without sealing your model. In this model I didn’t seal it but I washed it quickly. Sometimes I have found speed works well too if you don’t seal it. But it is good practice to seal your layers. It’s more forgiving.

Good stuff! Question: I painted Colossus silver. Would you use a black wash on silver? Some other color?
@ItsMeaDMaDe Жыл бұрын
Yeah you could use a black wash on silver. Then you can go back over it and dry brush the same silver over it that may have darken to much.

@@ItsMeaDMaDe I was only trying to find out how to apply a wash to models. Now I’m going back and watching the entire series. Too much information to miss!!!
@ItsMeaDMaDe Жыл бұрын
@@russelleubanks2885 oh. Well I apply it with a brush and let it dry after that.

Question: I was wondering, instead of brushing ink wash on could you poor the ink wash onto the model over a bucket or bowl or what have you to catch and reuse it for later. Then dab dry like you talk about? Or what about dunking the model into ink wash and dab dry. Just picking your brain to see if those could be a possibility. Thanks man.
@ItsMeaDMaDe2 жыл бұрын
For this technique yeah you could. That would be a lot. But the only thing is prints can be porous and ink wash could fill inside the model. Good luck.

if you are using the acrylic paint instead of the ink , do you fill up the bottle with the pain like you did with the media ?
@ItsMeaDMaDe2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that. The only thing is ink give you better results. I use to only use acrylic for a long time. still got good results but my results greatly improved with ink.

hello. i cant find Fluid Matte Medium in my location. (And unfortunately, Amazon does not send a package to our area.) Can I use "acrylic paint" instead of "Matte Medium"? And if I use "acrylic paint", what percentage of the bottle should I use? Can you give the formulation for people who do not use "Matte Medium"? What percentage of the bottle should be water, finish and water? thanks
@ItsMeaDMaDe2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you can’t swap out matt medium for paint. Matt medium is the compound that makes up paint without pigment. White paint has white pigment. It won’t work the same. This is a diy version you can buy ink washes. That might be the best alternative for you.
