I'm 61 and just starting out, I want to be able to paint portraits of my family. You make this appear so simple and straightforward; are there any tips you can give an absolute novice? My main problem with faces is proportion and angle to the light. Don't seem able to get both correct, one of them maybe. but not both.
@septimus644 жыл бұрын
The easiesg way to start portraits is to drop an image into an online image editor and use colorize mode to reduce the image to color shapes. I purchased an opaque projector to put images on canvas

Kirb .o Colors that are complimentary should create the color brown. Yellow and purple, blue and orange, and green and red. You want to use richer colors like blue since it’s a cooler color, you can use it to make the color brown look darker. But make sure it’s the desired color you want.

I use brown, yellow, red and white for the base and adjust proportions of each until I get the tone I want (more yellow for a more Asian tone, more brown for a tanner skin tone), I’ll add other colors depending on the lighting and such For dark dark skin tones I’ll add either blue or purple with a slight of black

When I paint a portrait in graphite, I like to do the eyes, nose and mouth first so I can see the likeness in those areas in great detail and the person in the portrait begins to pop out in 3-D. hmm the advice of always using an outline or tracing technique is an incredible tool for painting, especially if you sell these paintings, but if you are more of a beginner I think it would be better to start with hand painting/drawing the outlines of the paintings you do. it is also important that you don't throw yourself in the deep end, as in, starting with studys, portraits and other harder things and instead working towards those big goals. You inspire me Alpay Efe everytime I paint as well. thank you so much!
