The fact that you recommend Ben Moore products so much means I must be onto something. In my experience just about everything they make is wonderful. From Regal and Aura interior paints to Arborcoat to Advance- I'm sold! I have tried many brands, and keep going back to BM. Wish they didn't hit the wallet so hard, but that's everything these days. Thank you for the great videos and information over the years. You are my source for product and process recommendations, and I can't thank you enough!

Sherwin has some decent products as well depending on what your doing. I like their Loxon xp if your trying to seal out water in stucco and brick. But the H&C stuff from sherwin is nice ill be using that next time

Sherwin Williams sells HC Colortop , and I'll take Emerald over Advance any day , dries much faster , better to work with , just as tough if not tougher ..... HOWEVER , BM has a nicer color to it , especially the brighter colors and whites ..... SW "extra white" isn't as nice a white as BM whites , and that "extra white" is their base for many colors .... I do like BM "appearance" better , much cleaner whites and colors , just looks better to me ..... Very elegant colors and whites

Great info as always. I also have had good luck and enjoy staining over painting brick. Brick is an amazing look and I prefer to keep the look as much as possible as well as staining doesn’t have the peeling like paint does over time. 👍🏼

Awesome video this is Chris I own CB painting and renovations down inFL and I had the same questions about brick. I reached out to a family member that actually sells brick and he told me “why paint a finished product that has no maintenance” other than pressure washing of course but yes totally agree painting gives a lifespan to a coating on top of instead of something that seeps into the brick itself

I’ve had good success with Loxon xp Masonary coating. No primer required. Two coats required for waterproofing. Enjoyed the video!

Good product. But if needing 2 coats, why not use one coat the primer coat?
@shure46
@shure46 8 ай бұрын
@@crackerman3 Because LOXON is self priming for brick .... thin it for 1st coat so it soaks in , and backroll
@crackerman3

@shure46 Right on. Why have LOXON Primer and also conditioner then. I understand the conditioner is used for chaulky services, so maybe forget about that, but why have a LOXON primer if the product itself is also a primer? (Friendly question).
@shure46
@shure46 8 ай бұрын
@@crackerman3 if you use the LOXON primer you can paint with whatever you like , BUT , I fully understand your question .... it's basically a "don't ask me , hell if I know" situation .... lol ..... I THINK what happened is this , Sherwin Williams came out with the LOXON Primer FIRST ..... and then later maybe thought "Hell , let's just make a paint with the same properties and save a step" .... Paint products do come in "phases" , just like nowdays you see paints that say "Paint and primer" ..... It was not always like that .... I have a vid Painting brick with Loxon , it is good stuff , but first coat needs to be thinned to soak in , works very well ... I thinned all my coats really , made it easier to work with , and it holds up well , very well , sticks like glue

Brick and concrete are a semi-porous material that must breathe to let moisture escape. I believe you are right that most paint is NOT permeable. But I just watched another video that touted KEIM Mineral Paint as the best for brick and concrete. It has a high permeability percentage that does not trap moisture.

Loxon works well , but I did thin it first , so in essence kinda like HC Colortop ..... I do not think Loxon as i did it is ever going to peel , it soaked in well and stuck like glue ...... HC is a great product , I have done a lot of concrete with it , but Loxon is also a great product for brick ..... I would definitely thin it , it is quite thick "straight outta the bucket" ..... HC is probably a very good way to go though , and I'm going to use it next brick job ..... I bet it works great , I've stained concrete with it and it lasted 20 years , still looks very good

Looking to stain my exterior brick house in the coming weeks. I went to my local SW today and asked about the H&C colortop water based solid stain and the guy told me not to use it on the exterior brick of my house. He told me that it is made strictly for floor coverings and that it will eat away at the brick and mortar of my house?!?! Is this true? Looking for a good product for this project. Have you used PPG Perma-crete color seal? Or heard anything good/bad about it? Anything other product suggestions? Thanks in advance for your response!

YES .... If the brick is sealed already , you'll need to prime and paint .... Stain will not soak into sealed masonry or sealed anything ..... Now what you need is something that will STICK to the sealer first , then you can paint with anything you wants ...... PAINT not stain

RAW WOOD , stain is okay , but that HC Colortop he is talking about in this video is for masonry ..... Paint companies also make stains for wood like cedar .... solid color stains or semi transparent or transparent ..... On the outside of a house , if it is wood or any other type of material besides masonry , I'd just prime and paint with a high quality paint .... and if it is previously painted already , no need for primer , just paint ...... Sherwin Williams "Super Paint" is a decent paint , "User Friendly" .... Duration is a VERY good paint , "a little harder to use" especially on a very hot day , dries fast gets tacky ...... Solid color stains are good on raw cedar wood as it soaks in well and resists peeling later on ..... cedar can be painted though , you just have to do it right
