Loving the build! I don't see a blast cabinet in your garage. It's the best $100 you will ever spend. I use mine for everything.

Never seen a carburetor rebuild before. Great video. This reminds me of my dads old Yamaha Enduro only bike we owned that had a carburetor.. Thanks for sharing! Makes me miss that bike lol

Its like cleaning them with spray paint! lol I've got a midnight special, came out of the factory painted so there's no issue with painting carbs. If you want to be pedantic then strip them down a little more and plug the holes with tape. I actually etched primed mine when restoring them to help the paint stick better.

I think I would have used engine enamel, not only for heat resistance also for contact with gasoline and grease. It may make it start to peel once they start to get used , hope not but they look great
@thomasgarcia78265 жыл бұрын
I think the engine enamel would have been better too. I painted my gas tank with wheel paint (don't ask me why) and the gas definitely seems to be breaking it down a bit .. luckily for me it is temporary and will get repainted. Hopefully the carb wont leak and it should be fine
@scottww60575 жыл бұрын
@@thomasgarcia7826 ,you now what did the same thing. Did a two stage metal flake black on my tank, came out perfect till I got a couple of gas droplets on it and totally ruined the finish. I had to sand it down and hit with the proper clear coat. Work great with the proper clear coat an is fine now...live and learn hey?

not the way to paint carbs. disassemble them, and use proper paint.

I've got an S&S Super E on my 2000 Hugger, seriously thinking about going back to its stock carb, having it powder coated as close to a brass color as possible and rejetting it for higher performance.

Nice video. I noticed when you painted the carbs I don’t think you used etch primer. Is that because the Wheel paint doesn’t need a primer on aluminium? I am a complete new by so forgive the stupid question please. I’m stressing over a pair of CB500F grab handles and this will be my first attempt at spraying over some scratches on them.

Love all your videos! Super interesting and helpful. My question for you is where exactly are you sourcing parts from? I have a 95 vt1100 and I’m having trouble finding parts as Honda sometimes doesn’t carry what I am looking for. Maybe this was a more popular bike but hopefully you have some information!
@Phukifino5 жыл бұрын
Painting carbs is fine if you use the appropriate paint. Wheel paint is not it. I will be really surprised if it lasts long at all. I have used engine enamel many times with great success.
@grimdavis585 жыл бұрын
Yeah I use engine paint for everything. Last a lot longer lol

LOL! That's gonna look terrible when the paint starts flaking off.
@masterofnonetv83615 жыл бұрын
Then when someone ends up with it later and it's all flaking off they are going to have to tear it all apart and do it right cause someone didnt want to do it the first time.

Those look a lot like the keihin pd42series carbs That’s what’s on my 78cb750. Don’t forget the accelerator pump parts when you do the rebuild. 4into1 and vintage cb750 have a good source of parts although I know the videos are sponsored by tucker

What about the springs at the carburetor? Did you get any problems with them getting stuck after the paint? I'm thinking about painting my carbs too ;)

I disagree with the idea you can’t paint carbs too. I’ve heard they can hold heat and boil the fuel but unless is a hot running engine I don’t see that happening especially on a motorcycle

I'm sorry but this is not the way it should be done. Believe me I'm far away from being a hater ( in fact its my first kinda negative comment) but things like painting the engine or the carburetors should not be done this way or you'll simply do a s...t job which will last maybe for one but no more then two seasons... because it look nice it doesn't mean it is done properly. Sorry mate but I really think you should put a lot more effort into preparation before painting. Good luck.
@mrindsborg4 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter! I know it's been ages since you made this comment... but I still wanna learn from it, so there's no criticism of your comment or anything. Is it due to the cleaning before painting that it's a bad executed job? Because my thought was on the movable parts maybe getting stuck due to the paint. I wanna paint my carbs too, but doing the best possible job! Thanks mate ;)
@mrindsborg4 жыл бұрын
Or because he's not using primer? I'd personally use a couple of layers of primer
@823peterdotie4 жыл бұрын
Scrap & Trash I would definitely disassemble all of it. As you said there is many parts that are in motion...springs, washers, nuts or volume control screw that at some point might have to be adjusted etc. etc. When disassembled then it can be properly cleaned and get ready for paint. Make sure you choose heat resistant paint and approved for carbs(oxide paint). Good luck.

@@MrFlyingPanda Pretty far from a "shit job". looks like a perfectly acceptable job to sit on the side of an engine in a bobber build. Did you want a media blasted, powder coated masterpiece or what? I'd go so far as to say it's an incredibly tidy job for a backyard built bobber.

@@DenvarShay Well let's say, from a German perspective, that's a really American way of doing this. I would have taken them completely apart, cause painted over bolts, springs etc. just don't look good IMHO. But hey - to each his own.
