Zinc white is not meant to be as opaque because it is meant to be mixed with other colors and not reduce their color tint instead of turning them more pastel like like permanent or titanium does. It's not meant to be used for highlights or for covering. That's what titanium is for.

I’m probably stating an obvious thing, but zinc white is best used as a mixing white when you DONT want the color it’s mixing with to be overwhelmed, and maybe warmed a touch. Permanent white can be used as a mix, but it will be far stronger and opaque so use less and be aware of the coolness it gives. Both “can” be interchangeable in the beginning, but it’s one of the many things you become more aware of the longer you’ve been painting with them. Both can also be used with watercolors as well but zinc may help retain translucency better. These things should be tested via color wheel studies between brands because different formulas WILL affect this whole concept drastically.

I love this one so much! Your "unsuccessful" pen sketch seemed amazing to me but you really brought it to life with the goauche. I love how the pen sketch peek through in some places, and Kiera Knightley is instantly recognizable. My favorite part though is definitely the final details you added to the dress... just wow. 🥰

Amazing! I checked out your Pinterest reference and really enjoy how you are not a slave to the photo and instead add your own beautiful imagination. I am inspired to paint the whole form instead of just doing faces after watching this🤩. I too tried the zinc white as I was told its good for flesh tones but too was frustrated with its opacity. Might have to buy some of that gold gouache though! Well done and keep up the hard work 🎨🎨👩🎨💕👋

Zinc white is actually only suitable for mixing, as it has different properties to titanium white, for example. Zinc white tends to lighten the colour and does not make it as pastel as titanium white. wonderful painting 😍😍

If you use metallic paint again, maybe you could turn the painting or the camera back and forth, so we can see the shine from the metallic gold? I know its super frustrating because it looks so good in person, but there's like no payoff when I post a photo of something with my metallic oil paint on instagram 😅
