A really great tutorial on how to paint realistic hair. I have used your techniques on several portraits with good results,not as good as yours, but I am improving.

Thanks so much, Louis! So glad to hear that. It gets easier the more of them you paint. Little studies like this are super helpful

In regards to my H&S 2024 Infinity, I sent H&S support my first email about it not spraying below 30 psi 15 business days ago, and I sent a second email about the problem 8 business days ago, with no response from either. They have the worst customer support that I have experienced in decades. I have been painting with it at 32 psi and it works well. I don't think that Warwick would be happy with the way H&S customer service treats customers.

Incredible mark looks so real your the man !! Wud mDF gesso work as good as clay board as its expensive here
@theartworkshop12 күн бұрын
Thanks so much Tony! Absolutely, gesso canvas or panel is my favorite for hair textures. A gesso's surface is so tough that it allows you to add layer after layer of scratching. Gesso is also a pure white surface, which I love. It's my #1, but clay board is a solid option if you don't have time to set up your own canvas or panel with gesso. I'm just switching it up for a few videos and will go back to gesso'd canvas in the future

thanks! You can paint this too. It looks more complicated than it actually is. A smooth surface is key!

What an inspiring work! Thank you for sharing your techniques on hairs! I'm now seeing some of my flaws. And that is scratching with one layer only! I am also practicing hairs! My friend recommended me claybord but its not available in my country. I'd like to ask if im using synthetic papers do i need to cover them with gesso also? Thank you
@theartworkshop5 күн бұрын
Thanks so much Bisky! Most synthetic papers work very well for this technique but are often fragile. You need to be very careful with the x-acto blade not to damage the surface. Terraslate paper is a pretty good one as is LanaVanguard synthetic. No need to gesso them! Another great surface is to gesso your own panel. It's very similar to clay board if you add a few coats of gesso to a hardboard and sand it smooth. I use it all the time and love it.

I'm confused about how paint can be erased
@theartworkshop11 күн бұрын
I'm using an airbrush to apply the acrylic ink in very thin layers so that it's easy to scratch or erase. A very smooth surface like clay board, sanded gesso, or synthetic paper is very important.
@gm-lb9oe12 күн бұрын
Are you using inks? What do you use to reduce the ink with? Is it just water or something else?
@theartworkshop11 күн бұрын
Yes, I'm using Schmincke aero colors which are acrylic inks. It's essentially a very thin acrylic paint. For this one I reduced it about 40% with distilled water. Most times I'm usually at 10-20% reduction though.
