AK Interactive has a metal wax paint line called True Metal. Really interesting stuff that works the way you described. But you definitely have to matt prime it before washes etc, or paint just slides off of it. I use it for D&D metallic dragons so they are a bit bigger.

I've been using the salt trick on terrain for years, with very nice results. But in 40k scale, it does get a bit messy, and some salt grains tend to stick to the surface and never leave.

Would it make sense to 3D print paint stencils for those symbols on curved surfaces? Perhaps a low-tack adhesive could be brushed on the mating surface, to lock it in place and form a seal. But then you could get the exact shape and placement very quickly.

Masking on curves can be a pain, but I found in my last job that keeping the positive element of the mask and applying the surrounding resist portion around it will make keeping spacial proportions easier to manage. Then remove the inside before painting. (This is less practical on very small item) Lines like to wander on curves and they need a Commissar to keep them in line...

A bit too big in my eyes. Takes up too much room. Still nice to see, though. Have you ever thought about using a Land-Raider as the trailer of a Sicarian Battle Tank? Potentially with a corridor connecting the two and the Land Raider positioned backwards? Could be tank & MPC, could be anti-air with tracking radar & artillery, could be something else, like a recovery tank & a mobile workshop. Even a mobile hospital should be possible, I think, same for a mobile command unit. Why could it not be fusion powered? Find it weird that no ground crawling unit seems to have a fusion engine, you know. And the Baneblade should be the easiest on that front, in terms conversion, since you could simply use the fusion reactor terrain pieces for that. Do check out the terrain artillery pieces, the big one is perfect for a Baneblade chassis, if you mount fake walls to the sides. (a certain imperial army manual book, picture) The small ones are perfect for the Sicarian & Land Radar anti-air with tracking radar & artillery. As for potential game potential, getting in position, defending position & defending the resupply (like you often had in C&C) route, so the resupply convoy could get true. Man, that could mean several boards, that are all connected, including the board that the artillery unit(s) are firing on. Now some fun, Mechanicum units, I can see Fallout Protectrons, Thunderbirds (International Resque) it's mole. I see Iron Man mkI, Starcraft Marines, Fallout Power Armor, when ever I look at Warhammer 40K soldiers. Would that potentially be a fun way to paint those units? By a book about old European soldiers, their uniform colors, one that has it all drawn. Could be a good inspiration for painting some of those armies. Anyway, good going, keep it up.
