Just watched this video while drinking a coffee getting ready for work today where I’m applying top coats to all the windows and doors I’ve spent the last three days cleaning, sanding, filling and preparing for paint. I’ll use you trick (“lay the brush down flat and watch the bristles move slightly forward until they almost touch the wall”) for laying off the paint today for sure. Also I’d like to think I’m as good at laying off with both my right hand as I am with my left, but watching you…. I know I’m not nearly as good as you are at going between my right and left hand. Thank you again for making these videos. Can’t thank you enough 👍

I have been a decorator for 19 years and always swore by oil as it's what I was used to. Unfortunately oil needs natural uv light to stay white wether it's gloss, satinwood or eggshell. I have tried water base in the past and didn't like the way it went on or the finish and yes it's quicker but you have to put 1 undercoat and 2-3 top Coates to get half decent finish. I belong to several decorating forums on Facebook and have learnt a lot ( your never to old to learn ) and I bit the bullet and tried ISOMAT which is a water based gloss and satinwood. It is excellent product. Prep woodwork as normal and prime bare / new wood then 2 Coates and it looks like and oil finish and is the whitest paint I have seen in years. Give it a try I can't recommend it enough

Never painted a sill this way. Deffo going to do it next time as I’ve always painted straight along not sideways first like you did. Another great vid mate love em all top man. I’m learning so much from you especially the wallpapering that is my worst of decorating. But recon I’ll be ok now I’ve watched them vids as well as I know where I’ve been going wrong. Cheers mate all the best.

Looking good and has to be 6 for tunes. The only thing I would say is I try and have the windows closed as much as possible when doing sills especially when using oils as have seen nice smooth finish and then later go back and stuff been blown in. Even worse was a car had come through open window and left paw prints!! I really think you should give Benjamin Moore advance gloss a go I promise you wouldn't be disappointed with the finish, you would not know it's not oil, nice to use too.

Cat I meant! Car would be bad also!

Thank you, brushes that we use wear down and become stumpy.

My grandmother would like this, she thought the movies went downhill when they invented the talkies, but it would be really helpful if this was less of a silent era movie! You might not think you’ve much to say, but believe me, to a painting ignoramus like me no amount of info is too basic or obvious, and explanations as to why things are done the way they’re done are very useful, still good stuff here so thanks👍

Thank you very mush.. most of our videos have talking... but sometimes due to background sounds we have to remove the sound.

What brushes do you buy I have purdy brushes but i don’t really like them
@PaintingandDecorating6 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Bozga pure bristle Hamilton and some synthetic. Dulux or Crown local decorating center. Pure bristle are good for most paints. Some water based varnish paints you need to use synthetic.

By the way, what brushes are you using for oil gloss? I'm pissed off trying brush after brush and there's so many that are shit. The old wedge trick in the middle of the stock so there's no filling in the middle. Might try pound land hehe, ta mate
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
Hamilton Perfection Pure Bristle 4 Brush Pack // DDC Blended Bristle Brush FSC Certified. It is difficult to find the right brushes. Sometimes you just get a bad brush no matter what brand.

Ideal brush for the job better than those new angled brushes and I see you are trying to go one better than your brother when he demonstrated painting a wall with just a brush you are painting with your left and right hand. You really are a pair of show offs lol 🤣🤣🤣keep em coming buddy love your vids 👌👌👍👍👍👍

Simple yet effective. They say were only as out tools. We all have those brushes that'll do the business. I hate when theyre done. New.brushes take time to bed in. I'd assume you trim your own brushes like I do? Great work as always. 👍🏻👍🏻
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, never really trim brushes pull the odd bristle out. But work in my pure bristle emulsioning.

great job on the window cill , enjoyed watching the vid , its a different method to how i do it but the outcomes same , you learn something new everyday in this game
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
Thanks yes always different ways to apply paint but it is the finish that counts.
@ratchriat17167 жыл бұрын
as mush oil based is good just take to long to dry and the smell especially (interior) loved the video.
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree but sometimes the customer requests oil. Or if the woodwork looks like glass then oil is your only way to achieve the same finish. Water based can look a bit ropey.

Some of the other ones are up there own arses, and alien to what im use to. These two brothers are very plausible and easy to watch & understand, And the camerawork is spot on, Only thing that sucks is the opening music,lolll

Good man radio 6 is the way to go. I am trying new gloss out. Miranol from Tikkurila. Fed up with UK paints. Total pish nowadays. Get a good finish using Crown next gen esp with two coats. Onlyuse Sandtex fkexigloss outside. Great finish. Our job is getting harder because manufacturers keep fecking about with the paints.
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and yes definitely they should sort the paints out.
@KINNELLCOD7 жыл бұрын
Is Miranol suitable for wood? Always thought it was a metals paint. Use it on all my metals. Great finish.
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
Tikkurila Miranol is a super high gloss finish for interior and exterior surfaces. This solvent-based, high-gloss paint has an almost wet-look finish. Easy to apply, does not sag, and with good leveling properties and can be used on a variety of surfaces including PVC, Wood, Metal, MDF,

Hi so do u still use oil based glosses as they go yellow on interior sills and doors very quick
@PaintingandDecorating6 жыл бұрын
Depends on the customer we give them the choice. A water-based gloss is not that easy to apply and it can flash. Satin or eggshell water-based is better.
@stuartmcintosh71877 жыл бұрын
U still using much of the waterbased gloss mate? Ronseal? I change my mind like the wind. One minute i like the idea of waterbased but the next I go back to the dark side of oil lol
@PaintingandDecorating7 жыл бұрын
Always will like oil based apart from white gloss which can go yellow looking. Will always use oil based when using a colour. But that water based white gloss does allow for a faster job. And especially in rooms with not much natural light. Never will be able to lay water based gloss off properly it's funny stuff. Does not like to sit and build up just wipes back off and on edges as well and behaves like silk emulsion.
@stuartmcintosh71877 жыл бұрын
Painting and Decorating I know, I feel exactly the same mate. I have been back to lots of jobs with plenty of natural light and the woodwork done in oil still looks lovely and white. But then again I have been back to small dark hallways and they are yellow in no time. I also think the colour of the walls have alot to do with tricking your eye into thinking it is still white. If walls are painted white oil based gloss can look grey in weeks. One thing about waterbased that I find a nuisance is that it can get soft and sticky to touch on hand rails over time. It seems to soften or something. I hear of some people getting a slightly off white gloss in oil based that will stay whiter than pure brilliant white. I haven't tested this myself tho.!

Quick question, is that a upvc window or a wooden one ?
