Oh my. It’s like you are videoing the paint job in our home. The people we bought it from had no eye for detail.

yeah but! What he is not bloody explaining is that, the blade must be new and super sharp, and when you scrape, you keep the blade at an angle (like he is doing on the video) and use a very light hand. If you don't, the paint will just peel off and you will have to spack fill... But a fresh stanley blade gently cuts them off, followed by orbital sanding with 320 or 400 grit...

Try a wet sand with a flat pad after you have removed the runs, leaves absolutely no trace of the runs after. Works much better than a dry sand with paper.

Liked the idea of overhead scrapping rather than using razor underneath. Only suggestion might be to try wet sanding, which I found is better on new paint to keep it from sticking in your paper. Nice Job Friend!

Never without my yellow Stanley window scraper . Does a multitude of tasks. £2.50 My most important tool. Just replace the blade when worn.I am a professional decorator for 30 years. Have all the tools of the trade but my favourite buddy is my window scraper.

The tungsten scraper is also my go-to tool for dealing runs, paint build up on edges of doors etc. But it's an idea I picked up from one of your videos way back. My other technique for runs is to wet sand, because it is fast, dust free, cuts quickly, and results in a lovely smooth finish.

That, or an orbital sander that will key/sand the whole door in the time it takes to remove the runs with the carbide scraper
@JoeProDecor2 жыл бұрын
@Matthew Philip 120 grit abranet on either a mirka deros , or festool rts 400 , goes through old paint runs in no time at all Rather than using a carbide scraper, then having to sand the whole surface also, the sanding with a suitable sander does both jobs 👍 a carbide scraper does have its uses, but there are more efficient methods now for this type of job.

I like the scraping idea. Seems like that door has seen a lot of layers of paint over the years and it might be best to scrape the whole door and sand or even strip the paint off. Prime and repaint and use all new unpainted hinges. I never like seeing painted hinges. They look and work better not painted. New hinges are very cheap to buy at Home Depot but you have to match up your old hinges with the new ones. Measure the hinge and take a cell phone photo before going to the store. Some have round corners and some have square corners. If fact I changed out all my home door hinges with the brushed nickel ones. Looks great. I like to paint my trim in semi gloss vs gloss. It hides the mistakes and brush marks better and I always use a top quality brush like the top of the line from Purdy. It might cost $20 for a 2.5” or 3” brush but so worth it. The brush will last you years as long as you clean the brush with soap and water after every job.

How would you approach drips on the rounded parts (both rounded inward and outward) of more detailed molding? Have a old house circa 1900 I’m working on that has similar trim to what you have there around the door frame 😊

You can use shaped wood sanding block, or just sand. Never easy when preparing for painting.

That’s what I was wondering! It’s not a very helpful video if you don’t know what it is or where to get one. I’m over here googling paint drip remover 😂
@vinniedeluca21884 ай бұрын
This has to be an ASMR type video because any decent painter would know to just nick off the end of the run with a 5 in 1 and then fold a piece of 100 grit sandpaper and sand it down, then lastly buff it with some 220 grit and it’s perfect, half the time and looks even better. Also your focusing on runs on a door that is a complete mess, yes it’s good to remove the runs but in order to make that door look nice you’d have to hit the entire door with an orbital sander and then hand sand all the insides of the style, then caulk any cracks, spot prime any bare areas, followed by 2 solid coats of finish paint, block sanding and vacuuming between coats.

Assuming there is 20+ doors in the house front and back would equal 40, using this method would take a year to complete the trim and doors alone, i guess this would be ok if it was for one side of one door but anything more then that and your losing a ton of money!
