Pair Logitech Non-Unifying USB Receiver to the Mouse

Sometimes, the dongles for Logitech mice get left on old keyboards and the mice are simply gathered up in a box destined for eWaste. Well, in this video, I show how the non-Unifying USB receiver can be paired to the mouse even if it wasn't the one that originally shipped with it.
I qualify that in both cases shown in this video, the USB receivers were the right dongles for the mice, but weren't the ones that originally shipped with it. The host system that ran the utility was a 2019 MacBook Pro booted in the Windows 10 Pro bootcamp partition (How I wish the silicon laptops had that feature).

Perfect, and thanks for the video. In my case, the dongle was bad and wasn't connecting to any USB port on my computers, which was causing the issue (it would work if I applied upward pressure to the dongle while in the USB slot). I purchased an M317 mouse from Sam's for $12 and got the dongle I needed for much cheaper than online. Then I used the software you demonstrated to connect the devices to the new dongle. Badda-bing! My wireless keyboard and mouse combo is working again.

Thank you!! I had it 180°, my mouse died but I had the same mouse without a USB receiver! Just used the old UBS dongle, reprogrammed it with the sof you showed and BAM! I am happy 🤣

I know. I took a pile of nearly ten useless keyboard/mice and turned them into usable devices. Over the course of several weeks employees snagged them for use. It was nice to see.

How do you pair a mouse/keyboard (on a macbook) when the logitech webpage is saying "there is no download for this version" when you attempt to download unifying or connectivity software ?

Same here. I had roughly 7 or 8 displaced keyboards and mice and dongles. I used this to get them all working. Have you made sure the keyboard & mouse batteries are good? If they are not, it would give the appearance of the app not pairing the dongle to the keyboard & mouse.

That’s a good question because I happen to have the K580 kid/track-mouse combo. The K580 has a universal dongle denoted by that little symbol on it. The non-unifying mouse dongles do not have that. If I get a chance, I will be at a location on 2/5 that has spare M171 dongles. I’ll try it with my K580 to see if it pairs. There is a different pairing utility that is for those universal dongle. Also, you can simply buy the dongle. I have seen those listings elsewhere.

My M185 came with different dongles. N/N C-U0019, and they don’t work with connection utility software.

You have a unifying receiver, which is denoted by the Orange logo on the side. The utility I displayed in this video was strictly and exclusively for non-unifying receivers. The difference being that your was designed to connect to multiple devices, not just the keyboard and mouse with which it was shipped. Go to the website www.logitech.com/unifying You should find the utility you need at that location. I have used it before to pair additional devices., But it has been a while, and I don’t often counter the unifying receiver variance in the workforce. I find that non-unifying ones frequently. I had to do it just yesterday.

The USB dongles with an orange logo on them are unifying receivers capable of pairing with multiple devices - they require a separate utility to pair. The non-unifying receivers can only pair with one kbd/mouse combo, and use the utility featured in this clip.

Well, I haven’t tried that. I don’t believe it will simply because it’s a different manufacturer. The utility used to pair the non-original dongle to a mouse is for logitech non-unifying USB receivers and the mice they were designed to control. That said, it won’t hurt anything to try. If it does work, do let me know. I bet there are a lot of others in that situation that would love such a solution. Always think out the box!

Thanks for the video, but I'm slightly lost. Is this supposed to work for unifying devices without their original unifying dongle. I bought a second hand keyboard which was working fine with a logi dongle but when I tried it in my computer it didn't work, and to pair it asks for the unifying dongle, which i don't have. I got it real cheap so it's not about the money, i just want to use it 😅

The ones I have used have been a keyboard & mouse that use a dongle. In that scenario, it appears to be the mouse that is the critical device because that's the only one I pair to the dongle. Once paired, both keyboard and mouse work with that dongle. It's worth a try and see if the app in the video will do the trick for you.

You can install the Win10 version as it works fine on Win11. I can confirm that from personal use.

I hate everything. First I tried plugging in the logitech dongle than The pc told me to restart and now it's not turning on again. Then I tried to download this utility on another PC and it Just won't find the dongle and i tried multiple Logitech dongles. Bruuuh

Well, it’s not good to hate everything :) What’s the model of the dongle and the mouse to which you seek to pair? Does the dongle have an orange sun icon on it? If so, that is a unifying receiver that uses the app for unifying receivers to pair. Also, which Windows are you using? This proved we works on both 10 & 11, but I just want my facts straight.

Should Logitech recievers work with any Logitech keyboard\mouse, or are they unique to the the keyboard\mouse that they came with? I have a MK320 keyboard/mouse combo that's missing its reciever that I'm trying to get working. I have nine recievers with Logitech's name on them. I am using the Logitech connection utiltiy. The connection utility does not recognize over half of the recievers as even being Logitech, even though the recievers have Logitech's name on them. I'm on the verge of NEVER buying anymore wireless Logitech keyboard or mouse again.

The universal receivers have an orange-like logo on them. They require the utility for the universal receiver. Aside from that distinction, I don’t know how successful the pairing process will be. The one location where I use this process has the same model mouse/keyboard combo and exact same dongle.

This is invalid!!! They seem to not have it any more. Just says ‘There are no downloads for this version’ and that’s as far as u can go. Even the ‘Windows’ selection drop down box has the 3 windows options (7, 8 & 10) greyed out. I’ve gone to the website on a Windows 11, 10 & a 7 computer and same thing.

Sir this does not work for me either, have used 2 different LT connection utility versions for windows for my logitech nano mouse with the original C- UBD58 nano receiver, tried 5 different times to no avail. all the spec info in right column is zeros do you have any info advice to fix this. I don’t have a Windows laptop. I have a Win11 PC stick. I capture video on my MacBook using a USB-c video input and Barrier for keyboard & mouse. That’s why you see the MacOS desktop at times, but the Logitech app ride native on a pure Win11 system.

For me, it makes sense as it mimicks the functionality I had on my Intel MacBook Pro with a Native Win10 partition via Bootcamp that I could use on jobs that required Windows. I kept up a Parallels Desktop subscription to allow me to run the native Win10 partition concurrently with MacOS. Apple silicon does not support Bootcamp. While I need the advantages of the silicon architecture esp its amazing battery life, I could not do without native Windows. The PC stick gives me that benefit. I use it often.

Why do you say that? I did this just last week using my Windows 11 Pocket PC, and it worked each time. I do add that while I was able to pair three keyboards and mice, two others did not work. It turned out to be the mice that went bad; the keyboards paired to the dongles in both of those cases.

Total waste of money. If your keyboard doesn't have the unifying logo on it, it won't work. And it won't unify different brands. Just buy the mouse and keyboard separately so you don't need this waste of money.

Not so. The keyboard, mouse, and dongle do pair, but they are all non-unifying. The unifying versions have their own utility to re-pair when the dongles get mixed and matched. As for being a waste, that is probably the case in when the conditions are narrowed. Lots of companies buy these combos because they are functional and cheaper than the unifying variations.
