I love the clarity of the ride. No matter how fast he plays it, you can hear every stroke and the tone of the China is exceptional. Most of them sound like gongs or trash can lids, this one sounds like a musical instrument.

I work for Paiste and can promise you it is not about money. We do not pay artists to play our cymbals. Vinnie heard some cymbals and wanted to learn more. It was well over a year of hanging out and playing cymbals before any endorsement talk was happening. This is a move based on sound, and sound alone.

Vinnie teamed with Zildjian some years ago, and they came up with his A Customs, which sounded brilliant & breathy. But I've always been a fan of the old 602's, and these have everything that the A Customs had, plus a lot of much-desired depth & girth. Please don't tell my wife what I'm going to spend on these. And don't wake me up.

Because he treid our some Signatures in my drumshop where he came to visit as he was playing with Patitucci the nigt before. He said "I will come to see you, I keep your card". He did come !!! Saw him again around 2013 and I asked "do you remember in my car in Bordeaux after the Patitucci gig ?" He said "YES !!! I used to be. Not anymore. The Swiss and German companies seem to be far better for the types of cymbals I'm listening out for. That's not to say that I will never go back to Zildjian again. I had a 19" A-Zildjian Crash cymbal that I dearly loved, but my :manager" at the time sold it to someone who got burned in one of his Coke deals!!!! However, that is NOT why I switched companies. It was just an unfortunate coincidence at the time....

M J M I was playing Paiste before I knew who John Bonham was. A friend’s father gave me a recording and said if you think Topper Headon is the best check this guy out and no doubt changed my life though still love Topper. I had good taste even as a kid. Good price. We have soundproof room, work not mine, and that darker Zildjian tone works very well in there. Paiste can cut through a little too much. I really like the Paiste 22” ride so I am biased. All Paiste for me down to 15” hi-hats but like I say I know plenty who prefer Zildjian but it’s like drinking JD it became popular but no match for a good single malt. Indeed you too. The quality of its equipment is undeniable, the sound is a matter of preference. I think this video shows his playing has changed. Before his playing was very explosive, exuberant, voluble, baffling, with astonishing rhythmic phrasing, a playing that kicks ass on and on ! Today, he shows us a playing more withdrawn but more aerial and fine, more ‘’in the pocket’’, softer and looser and more ‘’natural’’. Perhaps the playing of maturity !!!

Yes, fair enough. I would certainly think Zildjian and Sabian are more prevalent. There are a few reasons for this, not least of which is that Paiste's top line cymbals are generally noticeably more expensive than the other two. In addition most young kids are likely to want to play what their hero is playing, and both Sabian and Zildjian seem to sponsor more. That of course leads credence to your original post where you say getting Vinnie is huge...and you are correct, sorry for the confusion

My opinion "Consistency"&"Versatility" are the big ones

Vinnie Colaiuta is THE authority on drums. And these Paiste cymbals sound terrific. Moreover, I think, that they sound drastically different from the Zidlian A Customs which were kind of Vinnie's signature sound while his Ludwig's mimick the Vinnie Gretsch sound fairly well. However, heading for new directions is always good to stay fresh and I like that VC is still hungry!
@DeanWuksta12 жыл бұрын
good point, I felt that too, Vinnie is probably my all time fav drummer, but artists seem to be hittin the products hard these days to make a living, Pearl, Yamaha, Ludwig, Gretsch, endorsements makin them work hard for their cut, which would in Vinnie's case, be a percentage of sales probably. Vinnie could make any half decent cymbal brand sound amazing. To me they sounded like 2002 but brighter, I have some signature, giant beats, 2002 18 medium crash, and other brands, Zildj Ks are cool : )
