Sorry, I got mixed up between the new and old names. The new station is going to be East Pakenham, not Pakenham East!

For those of you wondering where we are at the start of the video, we are going under the Princes Freeway bridges, and coming up to East Pakenham station. The train was at Nar Nar Goon,. and it is heading to Melbourne.

Very interesting news! Can't help but imagine the positive externalities this will create over an extended period of time. Keep the updates coming.

Pakenham East is technically the first metro line extension since Mernda in 2018.

Yup, that’s right.

@@ImSuperAngryRightNow yeah that actually gave me the chance to 2 of them and now I don’t need to go there any more so those level crossings can go fuck themselves 😂 (but I will be returning to see the new railway station because it actually looks pretty good)

Good to see the skyrail has learnt from the mistake of the last skyrail sections and building the line together on one pylon.
@melbournerailwayvideos Жыл бұрын
Curious to hear why you think that was a mistake?

@@melbournerailwayvideos they said it was separate so they can grow trees and grass underneath. It hasn't, and because of the two structures, trees can only grow to the height of the structure, or if they are in the middle they need to grow very thin to get to the sun, and thus are very fragile to windy days or people wanting to cause damage. The grass does not grow properly either as it doesn't get enough sun or water. It also causes trouble on sunny days as most want to walk in the shade and given the structure only covers some of the path, people walk on the wrong side of the path, making it difficult for cyclists to get through, especially if there is lots of traffic. The central pylon and plants and grass to the side, would have worked and solved all these issues.

@stopsallmelb They're all valid points, but many people also prefer walking and cycling in naturally lit areas, and I think that's something the Djerring trail does very well. It somehow doesn't feel like you're under this huge concrete structure.
@stopsallmelb Жыл бұрын
@@melbournerailwayvideos I feel it does the opposite, two large structures on each side makes it feel boxed in. If it was one joint structure to one side there would be a ton more open space to there side, plus only one pylon, so even less concrete 👀

I'd imagine it is more fit engineering reasons with different soils.
