Palette Master Ultimate New ICC Sync Explained & Demo! There's a new feature called ICC Sync in Palette Master Ultimate. This enables automatic profile switching on the OS when you change the color mode, this can be done via the hotkey puck or on the display. The principal and actual working of the program is exactly the same. Just that the profile dialog looks different in Win vs Mac. However, I'll see what I can do.

@@ArtIsRightI have the SW 271C connected to a windows desktop. I can see the profile in use in the Display, but when I use the puck to change the profile (say from calibration 1 to calibration 2) I don’t see the profile being updated in the Display. Is this something I need to do manually?

Hi Art, I 've calibrated my SW272U using Palette Master Ultimate but why the brightness cannot be modified in the calibration 1 mode even I selected the luminance 120 or 160, however there is no difference, therefore I have to switch the mode to Adobe RGB with calibrated color profile. Is this expected behavior or any suggestions?

in hardware calibration, brightness is a fixed value and should not change. that is by design. And far as 120 vs 160 you should see a variation but for that you have to do calibration in 2 slots, one for 120 nit and another for 160 nits. Watch this also kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZjSY6Ntn6tmpJI

Art, so this ICC sync is what communicates, in my case, with my win 11 color management? With the old elements software one had to open in windows the color management and if for example, u are using a custom calibration 2 assigned to the 2 button on your puck you had to make the associated calibration the default. Now you don't have to but how can I check to verify it is working ? If i am softproofing a print in Photoshop I want to make sure PS knkows what calibration I want it to use for its color translation.Thanks

You can go into display settings to double check. Technically you are supposed to relaunch any color aware program after an icc profile change

@@ArtIsRight Thanks, I was missing the palette master ultimate icon in the right hand side task bar and went into my start up apps and saw it wasn't enabled. After that it shows the change of calibration in win color management. Also I left the program open and minimized and noticed there was no icon again. I see when you click on exit program it is there. I guess the program icon is waiting for the new calibration and won't show up unless you click on exit program, or so it seems.

I started to calibrate my SW2700 monitor this morning and had an update window for ultimate. I installed the upgrade, and calibrated my monitor. It did not look the same, as the background remained black. After it finished it said that it was successful. Since then, I was told that I needed PME software. I went to BenQ website and could not find it. Would you be so kind as to send me a link to this, whatever this is? Thanks

Hey, so I just got this monitor. I notice your monitor has corner to corner even contrast. Mine on the the other hand has the bottom corners more flat and brighter. The top corners are fine. Does it need to be re-calibrated?

You can calibrate it with Uniformity turned on, and see the results at the end. If it still persist then I would contact support and see what they say. It may be within tolerances, however, I am unable to comment on this without seeing it.

No issue for 99.9% of use. The only time that would be an issue would be when you zoom in 500-600% or more on a retouching job, but most don't need that. It is not a good justificatino to not buy this. A true 10 bit panel would cost double if not triple. If you are a highend retoucher sure, you can justify it. Otherwise. It does not make sense to pursue 10 bit just for 10 bit sake.

Yes, but 99% of people can't tell the difference, and there are many other factors at play that contribute to good color. If 10 bit is all you are looking for then you are missing out on many other things. the bit alone is just a small spec in the overall picture; my advice is to not get stuck on it.

I have Palette Master Ultimate installed on a MacStudio running Sonoma. A SW272U and SW321C are both connected to the Mac via USB-C cables. When initially installed, ICC sync would do what it was supposed to do when selecting a custom calibration 1,2 or 3. The correct ICC profile would be reflected in the System Settings > Displays > Color Profile. But then it just stopped working. It will no longer sync, but for 1 of the custom calibration slots. I have delated all our ICC profiles created with Palette Master Ultimate and reinstalled Palette Master Ultimate. It still does not work. Wondering if you have experienced this issue, even with just one display hooked up. Even with just one display it will no longer work. Very frustrating as we bought the 272U specifically so we could use this new feature.

What is the purpose of ICC if we use hardware LUT? Are they simply identity mapping and only used to identify color space?

Not mapping but rather tell the video card what color output parameter is, gamut, gamma, white point, etc. Video card should not fly blind.

There are some emerging bugs with the latest Ventura build, there were changes to the OS, if you have not run into one, I would try first.

I've now noticed that the ICC profile sync in macOS has stopped working. The only change required was to register an account, before that everything worked. 😕

If I do use 2 MacBook computers with the same SW272U monitor (one at a time), and only one of these computers was using PMU to calibrate, the ICC profile is only on that computer. So your explanation is NOT correct that the NEW icc profile tells the computer what calibrated gamut to display. The idea of hardware calibration means any computer using that monitor would be already displaying the right calibrated color and gamut correctly if say Calibration-1 WAS chosen on the hot puk or OSD. That’s hardware calibration defined. Correct me if I’m wrong. I think that’s the right explanation.
