I feel like Palworld solved the issue with most survival games and how they feel more like a chore list than a challenge. In Palworld, your Pals help you survive and make your life easier and allows the player more freedom while still maintaining the aspect of constant danger that survival games provide.

Yeah, overall it was a very smart path to solve the big issue. You still have to build up and plan ahead while progressing as usual, but you can automate it all by just doing what you already would be in the first place.

@@airyshark324 check out Conan Exiles. It's much more like that game, than Ark. You have all the same automation in Conan as you do in Palworld, and capturing and traning your workers is so much more brutal than in Palworld, lol. Knocking someone out, and then dragging them by a rope back to your base, where you put them in a torture device to break their will, before forcing them to work, fight, and die for you.

Also, I don’t know if this is in any other games, the ability to just dump everything in any chest in your base and be able to start crafting is amazing. It almost completely removes the need to sort anything and I love it.

This "palworld glorifies animal abuse" at the start of the video was a golden take. Not like pokemon can be summarized into a world were humans capture free animals and put them to work as slaves, or make them fight against each other, such dog fights.

Pokemon is inherently kind of dark in premise and anyone who has thought about it for more than 5 seconds has realised this, if I could realise it when I was 10 then any functioning adult can. The devs even seemed to know this, I know there were a bunch of mildly dark little lore tidbits inserted in at least the early games, I'm not sure if it's still true with modern Nintendo. Nothing I've seen in palworld in my playtime so far really rivals the degeneracy of what is effectively cockfighting but with cute fantasy animals instead that you'll find in any other mon game. You have hunting and can take your Pals to help you, you have farming, you can put the animals to work (though they all seem happy to do it, proud when they complete a task and they're happy to get on with it without my explicit direction, I'll be honest I don't even know how to make a Pal do a specific job, I think I did it accidentally once though), these are all things that are accepted in modern 2024 society, even the ones with good animal rights laws. Animal arena fighting is not. Of course it gets a little iffy if we assume the Pals are sapient and capable of higher thought but again this goes for any mon game, and that's less an issue of animal abuse and more a question of how we treat sapient beings.

Technically palworld pals have it better they get a bed food get to live outside most the time at least they might get summoned for so.e work or chilling in pokemon it's almost always gladiator battles forcing them to fight eachother and at least palworld pals are monsters and fight on their own and such pokemon seem to not like fighting each other since one pokemon doesn't hunt another for food. Pokemon lore go deep mf cubone skull on his head is it's dead mother seemingly implying they don't evolve until their kill their mom and wear her skull

Okay at the very beggining, like the first 3 hours I didn't get it, I hate constant inventory management on top of hunger and janky movement. But after capturibg different pals and seeing how they interact with your base, it gives animal farm/minecraft vibes with a pokemon theme. Simple but genius and fun

I legit made a pokemon server in minecraft years ago. It never worked right, and was really buggy, but I loved it. Palworld is basically a continuation of that, but it actually works.

I’m glad to read this. I had major problems with the food and inventory management too. Two of my biggest issues with most survival games. I got into Enshrouded and haven’t gone back to Palworld so far. Now you make me think I need to go back and give it more of a chance. 👍🏻

Using awesome tech to help mons be free, you get to keep some to help run things and like there is so much to capitalize on.

I’ve always loved the idea of Pokémon, and the freedom they give you to create complex teams, but the games for years have been too freaking easy. There’s never a reason to go out and catch rare Pokémon, palworld gives me a reason to explore. And it’s SO refreshing

I am a huge gamer I havnt really played games for probally 10 years but I still buy all the current systems and games for my kids. I watch my kids play alot and will help them wheb they need. We share a love for video games. I think Palworld is awsome its about time for a new pokemon. And I grew up on red and blue and the start of the card game even. Correction: Xbox patch certification does not guarantee the patch is safe. It merely checks to make sure it does not violate the console's rules. But as for what it actually does to the game itself, Microsoft does not check for that. Plenty of Xbox games have patches that pass certification and then break the game for everyone who downloads it, deleting their saves or bricking your controller or whatever. As someone who buys a lot of indie titles on the platform, it's actually a disastrously common issue. Certification does not AT ALL provide the benefits necessary to offset the delays in parity.

I’m also in my first gamer girl relationship, she wasn’t at first but the longer we were together the less I hid my love for gaming and eventually got her involved with games like the sims, Valheim, visage, it takes two, a way out. Then we graduated to more difficult games like cod multiplayer, insurgency sandstorm, ghost recon wildlands and even some older rainbow six Vegas games and now she’s a full blown gamer with her own gamer type likes and dislikes and it’s been the best thing to ever happen to me and my relationship. We genuinely enjoy staying home, saving money and diving into different game worlds together. Palworld may be one of our favorite games so far, and neither of us were ever really huge Pokémon fans. Started playing on gamepass on a Friday night just looking for something different and we both haven’t put this game down since. It’s just plain fun, and when a game is good, you forgive all the early access pains and mishaps.

I am a public accountant and we are using an ai software this year to help with document entry, but there is still need to double check and change things for complex situations. I am not worried about AI.

It's a tool. You try and use it as a replacement, and things will go wrong. I could see AI, trained on fully licenced data, being used to help with conceptual design. I still would never push an AI piece to market, however. It would have to go through an actual artist and completely redrawn with their expertise and adjustments for me to consider it market worthy. It's like gathering references material that doesn't yet exist to help create an art piece. At least, that is how I would like it to be used. :/

The truth is that AI sucks 😂 Try to do anything different from the generic shit number 568 and it will be A NIGHTMARE. I got to a point that i trained a whole model specifically made to make cute girls holding assault rifles, but i only use It to test some ideas, outfits and SOMETIMES poses (and put a LOT of salt into this, i pretty much always need to model the poses manually and use controlnet into this shit) After like 8 HOURS making something with the AI, i get the shit into Photoshop or blender and start doing stuff using It as reference or tracing over the nice parts. If you try to do anything with AI only. Good Luck because it will be utterly HORRIBLE.

Palworld is the first survival crafting game I have ever played and I am enjoying it quite a bit with a friend. That being said - I cant imagine playing it solo. I have no plans to play it solo. I dont think I would like it and would get bored very quickly.

literally the only problems I have Palworld is I want the base to expand instead of me being able to build 2 bases, I can't tell where the boundaries of the base will be until after I set the base which wouldn't be a problem if they could expand. and I constantly accidentally throw pal orbs and waste them, instead of it being a press and release throw it should be a press to aim press to throw mechanic.

The worst glitch I got was I had 2 friends start a new game to join the world I made, and it reset my base to level 1 and all the pal I had set to working continued to work until I signed off (after they did) and I lost this pals. Thankfully they were low leveled, I also informed the devs, but that could've been a lot worse. Just posting this to give everyone a heads up and to be careful

Grew up on pokemon and fell off when it left the hand-helds. Always enjoy survival crafting but I usually fall off mid way because they're not balanced well enough for solo play. Pal world, has me fucking hooked. One of the first times I've actually gotten well into the midway point of a survival crafting game.

not only you have to resize it (because every game will most likely have different sizes on their model) but you have to go out of your way to bend the mesh to fit what you wanted (bending mesh will fudge up the hair/clothing/anything attached to it) , this is very deliberate and borderline malice .

Really hoping this doesn’t cause Pokemon to lean into kid-friendly stuff instead of growing with its audience because this game is satisfying some kind of itch for people who wanted Pokemon to hold machine guns. I’m not sure if those same people would be into a souped up Black 2/White 2- the best of the best Pokemon games- that these people wanna champion so hard. Let’s hope for some positive change.

I think there are like a few artists who already used AI to create a scenario so they can draw and make it 10 times better and if they have artist's block this will still help them to not slowly degrade the muscle memory for drawing As the old saying a good artist will use every tool they have to make a masterpiece. Also, there are a lot of good reasons to use AI for certain places mostly the lighting of Shadows of the models for the game that's one of the reasons games take longer to make most light engines and other complicated coding need to be fixed before release or partially

I like survival games. Still I half expected to be disappointed because on first look it seems like the game would be shovelware that just got it's monster design right in order to sell it. You can see at one glance all the blatant influences of popular/successful games. The game proved me wrong. Despite being a jack of all trades mashup of different games and clearly not a master any of them, the sum of all these parts is just addictive, great fun. I've not binge played a game this much since Dave the diver last year. Personally as a gamer, I mostly care about if it's fun or not. The whole legality of the monsters looking like they straight up came out of a new Pokemon game is really not for me to decide or worry about. That's what the legal system is for and I don't think they need any help/input from me, games journalists or social media, so I'd really like it if everyone would dial that discussion down until there's actually some kind of verdict.

17:40 The thing about "survival" games, is that they stop being "survival" games very quickly. You get a base, and collect a bunch of minions, and get your resource machine rolling, and suddenly there's no threat of death or your settlement failing. Survival games aren't really about surviving at all. Also, IGN comparing Palworld to Grounded, actually triggered me. Of all the games, how is Grounded what they chose? ARK and Conan Exiles are so much more comparable. I really hope the Devs use all this money they're making, to put more life and lore into the world. I want a world as alive and thriving, and deep with lore as Pokemon is. All the different groups doing their own thing, that you discover and disrupt. The Gyms that have their own faction of followers, and have causes they're fighting for. I want that in Palworld, but with all the ironic humor and crafting and industriousness. Give me that, with robust NPC AI, lots of interesting dialogue, voice acting and good writing.

If you don’t like the grind you can literally tone down the grindy aspects in the world settings. You can crank xp, turn down stamina loss, turn up or down damage, move day and night around. You don’t have to play vanilla PalWorld and tbh I wouldn’t recommend you do. I’m level 33 and that was with xp turned all the way up and I have about 30 hours in it.

I really don't understand this "marvel exhaustion" or whatever people want to call it. It's maybe 2 or 3 movies a year. I enjoy those movies. And 2 or 3 short tv show seasons a year. Really. Like 6 to 10 thirty minute episodes or so a season. It's good content. It's enjoyable. They are building a bigger and bigger universe and I love it. To not like it, is just weird to me. Not only that I picture those people not realizing what they've got until it's gone. For example, imagine if Disney/Marvel just suddenly stopped making more content or reboot it all in a bad way or started making standalone marvel movies instead, and then you'd have a bunch of people suddenly realizing how good we HAD things. Sure there's a bit of a formula to it but that's storytelling, movies, and such in general. Sure, there have been some stupid writing/director/plot moments but I'm never going to complain about too much marvel or star wars content. Get over yourselves. This stuff isn't perfect. It won't all be bangers like Infinity Wars, Avengers, Iron Man, or other non comic book movies like Star Trek 2 etc... But it's good and fun and so much better than studios just remaking Batman and Spiderman every 4 years like we had before. Superman had a decent run in the original movies but again, they never connected his story to a bigger universe until Justice League.

If they decided to make it like palworld where you can explore and open world. People will need to upgrade their switch. Meaning people will have to buy another switch costing more money.

Nintendo is afraid of competition, so they would never make their games more like another game. The whole reason all their IPs are exclusive to their underpowered console, and the reason ONLY their IPs thrive on their consoles, is specifically because of their fear of competition. Their games wounldn't hold up if they actually had to compete on the global market, on other devices. Tears of the Kingdom runs better on the Steam Deck, running in a Switch emulator, than it does on the Switch itself, and that terrifies Nintendo. They don't want consumers to know that they could get a better experience somewhere else. So, what's going to happen, is Nintendo will either abuse their massive wallet, and bloodthirsty lawyers, to make Palworld go away, or they will pivot completely, and abandon the Pokemon IP, in favor of something completely different.

I generally disagree with the flak people are tossing at Palworld, however I caught a Verdash last night and cannot see anything but Cindrace. I mostly find these designs to be total independent but this one sticks in my brain as too close for comfort. Still love the game.

Try robinquill and compare it to decidueye The cinderrace one was very trending but the different colour palette makes it less blatant.

For robinquill and Decidueye I think the color is most of what drives the comparison. If it weren't green orange and white I don't think it would remind me, the head is more Marvin the Martian than owl.@@XieRH1988

Ya the people wanting me to protest this. Really they should have said nothing. It was not on my radar at all. First thing I heard about it was an article talking about how Pokemon players are in an uproar over a copywrite infringement palworld. .... Now I have 300 hours of play time.

for less than $30, I am having WAY more fun than those 60 and 70 dollar games. Its not even complete, but the developers really went and said, "lets just have fun" - and it is! To all of the Naysayers and Pkm die hard, TRUST ME, you just have to try and see what the appeal is. Its REALLY fun and its what we ALL WANTED.

32:47 I’m not so sure about that. Obviously it’s more polished, but the idea that it’s bigger and more elaborate is pretty questionable. Scarlet and Violet are actually pretty huge games. No hate towards Palworld, and modern Pokémon certainly deserves criticism, but let’s not lose our heads here.

how can unfinished, early access games get a review? Especially when that review could shape the future of a "still in development" game. I think a first impressions article would have been more appropriate.... with a recommendation to wait, play, etc. Instead of giving unfinished games review scores out of 10. This archaic review system needs to get with the times.

The whole AI issue is silly. Steam will have to amend their stance on it or be left behind. In the 90s when robotics and free trade agreements with countries that had cheap labor gutted the manufacturing middle class nothing could stop it because the final say is with the consumer. A.I. is coming and the profit margins in using it are too high for businesses to stick to any moral high ground. Heck most articles seem like they are created by A.I.

I tried the demo and didn't like it but I'm trying to give the game another chance by looking at youtube reviews. Why another chance? Because it's apparently very popular so maybe I missed something? Maybe I need to like pokemon too? Maybe I didn't get far enough into the demo to see how interesting the use of the "pals" can be? I don't know.
