He actually admitted he was high during the games because of the pain pills! ... My dad took me to Wrigley in '66 ... when he came out to warm up, everybody stopped, stood up and applauded - just to warm up!!!

That is the most *refreshing speech* from a professional athlete that I have ever heard. Really- it was a better era then- before the *enormous* contracts.

He made $125,000 AND had to hold out for it!

That makes no sense. The enormous contracts you're talking about have enabled the current wave of early player retirements, have encouraged more of them to make the smart choice koufax did, so the two positions you've taken on here don't fit. Broadly speaking, any time you find yourself yearning for the good old days, you probably need to give yourself a wakeup call, because nostalgia is pretty much always misplaced.

@@scottmatheson3346 An interesting point ... I'm nearly 70 ... he was my all-time favorite athlete ... my dad took me to Wrigley in '65 or '66 to see him pitch ... there were about 15-20k people there that day ... when he came out to warm up, everybody stopped, stood-up and applauded ... I remember the first inning - he struck out Kissinger and Beckert, then Billy Williams tripled off the top of the right-center field wall - then struck out Santo on 3 pitches ... and my nostalgia for those days IS DEFINITELY NOT misplaced!

Koufax retired after Mr Bamboo Harvester took him deep for a HR on one pitch that was Nationally Televised. Ruined Koufax! Bamboo Harvester aka the Palimino Horse Mr Ed... lol
