See I thought the implication was that he just wasn’t actually a good writer, Beatrice makes several comments about it and we know her to be incredibly well read. I’ve known guys like this before, usually coming from central middle class to upper lower class, who think they suffer not because of some greater system at play but because the world doesn’t appreciate their genius, that they are simply entitled to success and talent because they want it and when they don’t receive it they lash out against women, minorities, lgbt, etc. for ‘stealing what’s theirs’ simply by succeeding where they couldn’t.
@Cirac16 жыл бұрын
Fargosis16 You hit the nail right on the head there. The intention, I think, is that he was never any good, he just was in love with the romanticism - and when he realised he was a bad writer, he took the offer of wealth from the sugarmans, as it gave him comfort as well as a scapegoat to blame for him not becoming a successful writer.
@mouseonthestreets86756 жыл бұрын
Cirac1 Theirs only two things you can do to get better at something. Realize that you're not the best in the world and practice to get better. Or quite and do something else. People from old money tend not to modernize as quickly as the regular middle class. I had to ask my mother about this since she grew up in the 60s and I asked about how women were dressed in MadMen. She clarified that the women in madmen are part of a much higher income bracket and are about a decade or so behind in social mores and dress. She told me women in the 60s actually wore more pants and were a lot more modern than media presents them to be because the most visible records we have of certain eras is how the wealthy dressed and behaved. The commoners tend to update their lifestyle faster since they have fewer things and life could ALWAYS be better so why not upgrade?

The playful tune while showing a tougher childhood was an interesting phase for the show. Until s4 when there isn't much comic relief left. Or at least not enough to make it a "fun" show. I like what they did as far as development, but it becomes very different over the seasons.
@gabe_s_videos6 жыл бұрын
I feel like there's a duel purpose to this. On the one hand, this could be Bojack trying to brush off his abusive childhood as no big deal by remembering it as a really dark joke, which is why when HE starts taking it seriously, so does the show. On the other, this might have also been the writers trying to ease into a straightforward depiction of an abusive childhood by saying "Yeah, you can look back on it with your tongue in your cheek, but it's still a fucked up thing to put a child through."

I mean yeah we get to know a lot about Beatrice, but we do see how even though she was shitty to him she did spend a lot of time with him, which is probably why he knows so much about her family and how she grew up. In 1846, the four-year-old Albert Edward, Prince of Wales was given a scaled-down version of the uniform worn by ratings on the Royal Yacht. He wore his miniature sailor suit during a cruise off the Channel Islands that September, delighting his mother and the public.[citation needed] Popular engravings, including the famous portrait done by Winterhalter, spread the idea, and by the 1870s, the sailor suit had become normal dress for both boys and girls all over the world. This is also somewhat related to the idea of "shorts as children's clothes". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_suit#As_children.27s_clothing

Season 2 and beyond would have that slap be dramatic. Crazy to see Butterscotch here being played for laughs.

One of my favorite scenes 😂 Bojack Horseman is honestly one of the best shows ever created. Hits every emotion, has valuable life lessons, it's absolutely hilarious, and unlike most shows, it ended so, so well.

When you’re a dummy thicc cargo ship, you don’t cut through the Suez Canal like some sort of Democrat. YOU GO AROUND THE HORN OF AFRICA LIKE GOD INTENDED.

I wonder if Butterstoch ever envied Bojack since he followed his dreams and became successful which Butterstoch never did

I'm not entirely sure if Butterscotch even lived long enough to see his son on Horsin' Around. Although I wouldn't say he's jealous of Bojack, Butterscotch seems like the type of guy who has one of those "If I'm unhappy, you're not allowed to be happy" kind of attitudes, so that's probably why he goes out of his way to be shitty towards his son.

You know, “the way God intended” is usually used either sarcastically or just as a sub for “the right way”; but in this case, it kinda makes sense, lol.

Now I know how people put their ships in bottles. The sails are down in the first place, but then you raise them up while they're in the bottle

This was from the pilot where Bojack's tone was a hunt more cartoony. It's still genuinely hilarious
