Same tho. Of course it feels better to shoot stills on a canon, but the gh5 is so versatile in comparison to what's on the market (and nearly in price range) Perfect cam for me.

This camera is great for photos when you know what are you doing. With a speedbooster and good lighting you can fake it for Full Frame. He said maybe that to make fun that you buy this camera FIRST for the video specs and photography come next. But this is a Great Hybrid (GH) mirrorless camera

Best summation of the evolution of Panasonic and their camera lines. I was elated to see that even through Panasonic has constantly be in competition with other cameras, they have been the first in many categories. I personally own a GH3, and will continue to be a Panasonic loyalist.

I just discovered the History Deep Dive series and I love it. Keep it up! Also, I just got jealous about the GH5-series and nearly started getting buyers remorse for my Fujifilm X-T3 purchase. But then I saw that the GH5 is 1300€ - that's 500€ over what I got my used X-T3 a year ago and 600€ above what the X-T3 costs new with a good deal. Now I don't feel as bad (thinking my 1080p120 is great for what I paid, for example) and have a hell of a lot more respect for Micro Four-Thirds and Panasonic cameras.

What was Eric's first camera? It looked a lot like the PV-GS35, which was my first camcorder in 2005. That thing was amazing for its time and my knowledge level. 30x optical zoom, a whole 720 x 480 SD image...seriously though I learned how to make movies on that thing. Then jumped the Canon HV-30 for crazy mind blowing HD in 2009, and then to the GH3 in 2013...which I stuck with till 2017 with the GH5. Now I use that and the BMPCC4K. It's wild how much technology has evolved in the last 15 years since I got started making movies.

wait a minute that Tester 13 hack was ACTUALLY available for the GH1 as well. did it in 2010 mainly for the higher bit rate. We couldn't afford a 5Dmii for this low budget indie feature we were shooting haha.

OG GH1 user here. Picked one up when they were like $400US and shot sooooooo much on it. Upgraded to the GH2 a few years later, shot some of my best stuff (all the stuff I'm proud of) including music videos, promos and wedding films with it. Was an absolute workhorse, only really let down by a weak codec that was fixed by those firmware hacks. Been shooting weddings and other shiz on the G7 since, still a workhorse only really outshone in my stables by the BMPCC4K. Sure it doesn't have full frame image, has that stupid M43 crop and has no headphone jack... but it ain't no slouch. You'll pry my G7 out of my cold dead hands... or when Panasonic release another 800 dollar 4K camera (like the G7) with headphone, mic and dual native ISO... I might then consider the upgrade. I'm no fanboy, I just saw the cameras for the workhorses they were. Without them I wouldn't have the body of work I have today. :)

I kind of want to see an episode focusing on the Canon Vixia series. I used a Vixia HF R300 for years before upgrading to the G40. The interface is the same, but the camera is about three pounds and $1500 more. It's interesting to me that they're in the same product line, despite one being a very hobby-oriented "vlog" style camera from 2012, and the other being a heavy hitter in the prosumer market.

Should I sell my GH5 and trade up to a GH5S. Been looking at A7III but the 30min record time put me off and the S line is very pricey not to mention more limited 4k than GH5. I assume bigger sensors more heat and processing required.

Full-frame is absurdly overrated and most cameras can't shoot log properly (8-bit storage codecs are unacceptable.) While the GH4 was a massive thing, I personally think the G7 was the real game changer. Anyone can buy a G7. They were so cheap compared to the GH4 and did 4K at 24/30fps. Came with a decent lens too.

This is a fantastic series. When I first entered the industry I was really confused about what differentiated a Canon 5Dii with the 5Diii. Not terribly hard to search for info, but back then, I had no idea what to look for. This is an awesome way to look at the history of these tools that pervade our work places, especially for those who are new to all of the nuances. Really looking forward to the next one.
