Panasonic Lumix FZ80/82 Getting Better Image Quality: Part 5a - Shooting video

Continuing the series with a look at the requirements for shooting video with this camera.
Selection of recording mode, recording quality and memory card is discussed. Looking at the need for stabilisation to prevent "micro jitter" or "jello".
In part 5b I will be discussing white balance, exposure external audio and lighting options.

Was having a hard time getting into the creative video menu, exposure mode, as menu items were greyed out, not allowing me to set my own exposure and aperture and iso in video. Finally figured out the mode selection button on top of the camera was on M rather on the little pic of a movie camera M. Didn't realize I could set my own manual settings in video. Thanks to you, now I can.

Hi Graham, love your tutorial series on the FZ82 camera, very interesting & in-depth. Can you please tell me why (when using the movie/m setting) is my LCD screen bright when not recording video and as soon as I start recording the screen goes slightly dull, what I see before recording (brightness etc...) is not the same as when I start recording video. I want buy a new camera for travel and safari in december, I'm not sure if the better choice can be the better optic of fz300 or the zoom lenght of fz82. there is the Panasonic LT55E lens which will give an additional 1.7X optical magnification. Results will be very much dependant upon things like atmospheric pollution, smog dust haze etc. I don't think it is a good idea going beyond 1200mm EFL for teh above reasons plus a tripod will be needed - you couldn't hold this hand held.

Hi Graham. Great video about Panasonic FZ80/82. I'm consider to buy it. Question about bit rate of videos. What bit rate this camera is using when shooting 4K at 30 fps (how fast SD cads is needed). Hoe this camera works in low light? How the smartphone app works? Soes it allow to change all the settings or only basic (shutter, start/stop record videos, zoom levels)?

Hi Graham, do you have any videos or articles on the FZ300 and all the types of lenses and adapters? I had once bought a cheap wide angle lens for another super zoom (I think it was a Canon) and I found that it caused severe vignetting which made it useless. Do you have any recommendations for decent lenses for the FZ300? Or is that just asking too much from a bridge camera?

I did a comparison of wide angle adaptors for bridge cameras and the same lenses apply to the FZ300/330. The 0.45X lenses are designed for 18-55mm kit lenses on DSLR and not suitable for bridge cameras. The 0.8x lenses are OK kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJLFaqOaqbqNntU

Very didactic your videos. I want to buy a Lumix bridge but I'm more interested in the photo than the video and I do not know which one to choose. between the fz300 or the fz2500. What do you advise me? only for photo Which one has better image quality in photography? Forgive the inconvenience and congratulations for your knowledge.

Don't overlook the FZ1000 which offers great image quality without the added video features that the FZ2500 has built in. A lot will depend upon your photographic genre, focal lengths needed and whether low light shooting is envisaged. Fz300 is a great camera surpassed only by the bigger sensor FZ1000 up to 400mm EFL

I am interested in this Camera as a spare to my GH4 as I know the Panny settings and dials, etc. I would order online but can only see the FZ82 on Amazon as I write. Is there any difference in the 80/82?

the 82 has a better pic/video resolution, the zoom its amazing but pics are griddy, there is not really much detail compared to other cameras like sony6000

It's still a great camera, but the 4K 15 minute recording time makes it slightly annoying at times.

i have turned on continuous af but it still won'tfocus on things like i plane flying by that i zoom into.

AF on moving subjects isn't great with this camera. I would not use continuous AF but single area AF and AFF to set focus. Frame the subject in the focus square with half press of the shutter button to lock on focus and then fully depress to shoot

Just upgraded to fz82 this week, been using fz72 for quite a while , video wise , view my channel 'sanderson19' all trackside taken with fz72 , free hand, mini 7 being the latest one's. Never had a problem with it , great cameras

I'm not a Lumix "fan-boy" I just believe that this range of cameras offer so much to amateur photographers at reasonable prices and i've been asked so many times to do these tutorials as teh manuals that come with the camera are really hard to follow for new users.

Well in the right mode creative video how ever cant lock down manual exposure can select s ,p, m and so on in menu but M makes no difference to lighting not changing. I can see the brightness change on the exposure meter. Also video b your are then changing brightness as over exposed. Yet in this video by your settings it should happen as the next video you are still in manual exposure. Let me guess the answer is in the book.
