Fortunately Panasonic has a excellent reputation of continuous updates and firmware adjustments improving their models vastly (such as they have already with the G9 and GH5). I'm praying they at least release it with competent firmware to focus smoothly and quickly. I've already noted several folks who did tests and discovered considerably better results tracking and such then you did, so that's encouraging. I pre ordered a S1/24-105 so here's to hoping for the best.

Everyone points out how Continuous AF and video AF doesn't lock on as well as one would like and has to hunt sometimes. Fair. However it's worth mentioning is that contrast detect with or without DFD does have some major benefits over focal plane as well. (accuracy, no banding in shots).

No mention of the illuminated/backlit buttons? That's a pretty unique feature for a mirrorless camera. And the red "night" mode aka Terminator mode.

could you comment on the slow motion capabilities? I had seen someone mention that the 180p is cropped and you have no control over the exposure, is this true?

That was a very small amount of test footage. Did Panasonic set limits on how much footage you could put in your review?

On so many reviews AF of this camera was awsome. In the same level with sony. Maybe they had higher firmware

Nice , very fair review. Yes it is preproduction model but it going to stay the same with auto focus because of only Contrast detect sensor. May be they can improve auto focus little bit by firmware upgrade but chances are less....

A very expensive "kit lense" so it should be good. The fujifilm kit lense is under $300 and images are great.

I own the G9, I would never buy Panasonic full frame, I would probably go for Sony full frame if I ever move to full frame mirrorless ? No pixel to pixle auto focus?, no fully articulated screen, only one xqd card slot?

The S1 has some horrible usability issues. For instance to change the mode dial you have to keep the button pressed in while your turn the dial and the same goes for ISO. Truly dumb and slows you down. They need to adopt the Fuji dial usage. The Leica SL is way better to use.

Am I excited? Maybe. I personally think Panasonic has some of the best built cameras on the market. But let’s have real talk. The prices are super high. How many ppl are going to pay $3k for a 50mm!

DEAL BREAKER....same AF problems as gh5.....no improvement. very disappointed. video centric camera that doesn't AF very well. Hmmmmm.....
