In 2021 should I keep my oppo 203 or sell it to get the ub9000?
@TechnoDad3 жыл бұрын
That’s what I did. I sold the UB9000 but that’s because my workflow was easier on the Oppo as it plays a lot of files the Panasonic can not. It could be different for you. If you’re thinking PQ, the UB9000 is slightly better and I think the HDR Optimizer brings a lot to standard HDR content.
@MrKnowyourtech3 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoDad the one thing i see no one talk about in comparisons is the hdr optimizer vs the oppos ability to convert hdr to Dolby vision. Currently have an older oled that only does hdr10 so I can’t test that as of yet until I upgrade this year.

Is the built in Asahi Kasei AK4493 DAC from the Panasonic UB9000 as good as Oppo's UDP-205 ESS Technology ES9038PRO 32-bit HyperStream DACs? Dumb question but I'm just curious.

Hello Techno Dad, great review, as always, little teaser for my taste today though, hope to see a detailed one later for sure. Question: Is there a configuration where I can program AUDIO via XLR only (CDA) and while watching a movie (BD) all audio can be routed via an HDMI automagically? Hate to press several buttons everytime when you want to switch between the incredible panasonic DAC, as you mentioned, (Audio) and my own processor box (movies). Just asking for a friend :-)

@ Techno Dad I thought the UB9000 is for people that have a home theater receiver ? Also what are your thoughts on expensive hdmi cables like audioquest are they worth buying or just a gimmick
@richellebrittain21273 жыл бұрын
@@coalregionrider18960 If you're looking for analog audio quality this one can't be beat, but depending on your budget you might still be happy with the 820. If by "no home theater" you mean you have a soundbar instead of an AVR, the 820 & 9000 are identical for PQ & HDMI AQ; my 820 is hooked up to an Atmos soundbar. If you mean you're using your TV speakers, PLEASE get an AVR or soundbar first -- even the cheap $37 stereo analog soundbar that's Amazon's most popular will beat today's TV speakers -- THEN go for the 820 or 9000. Edit: Expensive HDMI cables are still a ripoff, but now with TWO exceptions: (a) The longer the run (20 feet maybe, 50 feet most likely) the more expensive you'll need to keep from falling off the "digital cliff". (b) If you're getting a PS5 or Xbox Series console you will need a certified HDMI 2.1 cable (Ultra High Speed, with Ethernet for eARC connections where needed, with an official HDMI QR code on the package) to carry the highest bitrate video (generally with 120 Hz or 8K output).

As long as your receiver or soundbar supports that immersive format, you're good to go.

In reality none of the 4K players actually support Atmos/DTS:X, they just bitstream the audio to your AVR and the AVR will decode it. So it's more important for your AVR to support Atmos/DTS:X.

Tito Rodriguez I wouldn’t, unless you’re looking to make some extra cash. The Oppo is still the better player.
@TechnoDad5 жыл бұрын
That depends on you and what you need. The Oppo will play SACD and DVD Audio as well as Atmos encoded MKV files and BDMV folders. I have a 10 TB external HDD with 4K UHD rips that will play on the Oppo and pretty much nothing else. The Pioneer LX500 did play the MKV Atmos files but wouldn't play the BDMV folders.

REALLY upset that a superb player like this Panasonic doesn't have zoom control, like all the Oppos do. But those Oppo dopes omitted allowing you to move and center the zoomed image on the screen. My JVC XV-NA70BK DVD player from 2004 can do that with ease. Zoom controls allow more intimate control over content and really adds to the fun. The least Panasonic should do for a player at this price is to add this feature via a firmware, but they probably wouldn't do so even if they could.

ALL Blu-ray players (regular or 4K) that can bitstream TrueHD from a supported disc can bitstream Atmos on discs, which is just TrueHD with height channel metadata. Same with DTS:X which is DTS-HD Master Audio with height channel metadata. (I had someone try to argue with me about the 820's Atmos support, but I do get Atmos from my 820. The 9000 shouldn't be any different as its digital-side electronics are generally same as the 820; only the audio DAC & added digital coax output differ.)
