I think its funny how the oppo owners cant believe that another UHD player could ever come out and outperform it. Its unreasonable. Technology replaces itself almost every 1.5 years. The rule of microchips is every 1.5 years the same sized microchip can perform 2x the original. So it stands to reason something that was designed years ago with older components will be superseded by new tech. I think the oppo is a great player, but it may be replaced in terms of performance in another year.

Sheldon Spock i have a 1080p epson 6030 ub with dedicated 100 inch screen draggonfly with velvet 3.5inch board in a full black theater room, and i think it is better than 4k oled in term of image and color, color gradient and image smoothness.. important is there is no screen door effect, no reflection from a glass screen, no reflection on the side with the velvet. the size make it incredible picture very detailed. Also the front screen is very clean in a high end dedicated room with just the speaker and professional screen. Also the projector is full 3d thx certified ISF so the 3d is impressive especially on extra large screen. You add a top sound system dolby digital, dts as i have and it is better than the cinema cineplex. Yes there is more resolution in oled, but there is a better cinema like image on my projector that none of the oled tv can reproduce. They look not realistics, too plastics on oled tv, my projector is more cinema like, more realistics and more cinema. And the black are very good with a dynamic iris. Nothing beat it. I would never go to oled also because it is not the same as projection and there is burn in issues. You have to see one high end installation before to say otherwise.

TV"s are for commentaries and special features as far as I'm concerned, as well as series and docs. The colors even on an LED TV are brighter and nice to look at, but nothing beats watching it on a screen three times that size and the way the creators envisioned people watching it. You still get a crisp picture and accurate colors on a projector too by the way.

Dude what the fuck? Why the fuck would you even THINK of replacing Oppo 203? Even though ub9000 is tiny bit better in motion clarity it's not meant to be replaced if you already have a beast blu ray. Ub9000 is meant for us people who just started building out our home theaters or for the people who are doing upgrades (like from 1080p bluray or maybe dvd). I wouldn't replace that Oppo 203 for at least 5 more years. It plays DV content wonderfully and at reference quality as well as HDR10. What more do you want? You will get better difference if you buy new TV then with current TV/projector and the ub9000. Think. :D

There are some features that still keeps OPPO in the game. For example for HDR to SDR conversion, on OPPO you can actually choose the target luminance of the tone mapping. On Panasonic it will be done at 350 nits, for basic luminance projector, but that can still be too much for a lot of projectors. Furthermore the OPPO has an HDMI In which allows you to use it as a video processor for HDR for all your devices (you can tone mapp the streaming content), and also you get to use all it's other video processing options for those devices. Also OPPO has the option to choose as default resolution the ,,source output'' if you want to to the uspcalling on your display. Some dislays , for example Epson 4k projectos and other 4k shiters are doing better with upscalling done directly in the display rathar than sending an upscalled 4k signal to them. OPPO, with a third party software can also be used as a digital player for all your files. Panasonic can't really do that. You can play some of the digital files on Panasonic but you won't have lossless sound, you will have only lossy which is useless in a home cinema. The only thing that Panasonic does much better is HDR tonemapping for HDR displays and that is really a very important feature, but unfortunately it can be used only for UHD discs and nothing else. Also as I have already said, if you want HDR to SDR you will still get minimum 350 nit, which can also be too much.

I know this video is 4 years old…. But I just bought this Panasonic. I am VP of Sales and Marketing in the HDMI/Cable industry (23 years). I know the guy who designed your fiber HDMI. I have had dinner with him and his boss several times. I have never in my life heard anyone make the claim that fiber HDMI has a better picture than copper. The HDMI chipset has data correction, and can actually restore millions of errors per second. We have tested this many times. So even if one was better than the other, the chipset is designed to correct both signals so you get a pure digital signal. HDMI uses data packets and checksums to repair bad packets just like a data network.
@eurodudenj Жыл бұрын
Thanks, agreed. I also own the UB9000 (bought a 2nd one as backup now that BD players are eventually going to be hard to find). HDMI is digital (and has error correction) as you noted. It only carries DATA, unlike analog cables which transmit / carry the actual signal. With analog cables, different quality cable design and components definitely can make a big difference, unlike HDMI so long as it is rated for the right speed / HDMI standard for your video resolution (e.g. HDMI 2.1 4K @120Hz or 8K@60Hz). The only legitimate reason that some HDMI cables should cost more than others is in cases where 1) they support (and are ideally certified for) faster speeds (for 4K or 8K e.g.) and 2) when they support longer cable runs (lengths), or both. In short, as far as I am aware, so long as your specific HDMI cable is rated for the appropriate speed (to reliably support your video resolution) and supports your run (lengths over n feet can be more challenging) without dropouts / artifacts / issues with displaying your content at the selected resolution, then the actual PQ with that cable should be the same as any other HDMI cable regardless of price. Just buy a decent 48Gbps / HDMI 2.1 or 2.1b (ideally certified) HDMI cable and that should be all you need for 8K video and spending more is frankly a waste (no improvement in PQ). That said, unlike the old days (before 4K and 8K etc.,) where the very cheapest HDMI cables often worked fine, for higher resolutions, such as 8K, you will now need a 48Gbps-capable cable; however there are great deals on 8K / 48Gbps cables which have been flawless on my OLED TV with my UB9000 and they were on sale for a ridiculously good price.

For 1000$, this Pana should be knocking on the door of the Oppo 205, not the Oppo 203 really. But even as old as it is, the Oppo 203 is toe to toe with this new Panasonic. I did not concentrate everywhere. But at 4:44, look at the tombstone; the Oppo shows the dirt on it much more clearly than the Pana. At 4:39, look at the gun, the hand holding the gun; everything, is sharper on the Oppo image and its details are faded on the Panasonic image. You claim at that the Panasonic is the winner for sharpness but the opposite is true in many stills. Look at 5:03 the right half of the image: you will see the Oppo is much sharper whereas the Panasonic is dull. Look again at 5:06 ; pause and compare the details of the leaves and trees on the Oppo shot versus the Panasonic and tell me which has sharper cuts and details. This Panasonic can’t even best a middle-tier Oppo from years ago, so this Panasonic is overpriced, plain and simple. And I grew up a Panasonic fanboy.

Zero middle man. The least amount of connection changes optimizes the video. We dont know the results from going through the AVR. It says full 4k passthrough, but for the sake of the test I wanted as little variables as possible. Thats why I used one cable direct from source to display

I had to send my OPPO 203 in for service and I bought the Panasonic UB9000 as a back-up. I will run that OPPO until it fails and can no longer be serviced. The Panasonic is wonderful player but they definitely did not apply any logic to their on screen menus.
@agiverreviga45925 жыл бұрын
There's zero colour difference between them. The only thing is the Panasonic is slightly sharper, but very slightly. Unless you stop at each frame and compare it, you wouldn't notice the difference.
@ThatHomeTheaterDude5 жыл бұрын
This is a small video representation. I only did short clips to avoid copyright. Video compression from uploading can have ab effect too. In person the differences were very apparent. Either ways both are premium UHD players and both will be great. Do you need to throw your oppo in the trash? Nope. If you have to have the newest and greatest then panasonic is the way to go. If we like it or not the oppo updates will be becoming far fewer very soon. Pros and cons to both really

Then for you dolby vision and hdr10 is the same thing. Every improvement matters, when you add all the improvements from every source it may become significant. Dont expect too much differences on this things as its only a matter of processing
@ThatHomeTheaterDude5 жыл бұрын
@@marianogigahertz9212 not true. hdr 10 is standard hdr. dolby vision goes up to 12 bit. They had to one up everyone else. Most dislays are still playing catch up to get to dolby vision standards. Its becoming more prominent on the 2019 models

@@ThatHomeTheaterDude Not related at all with what I said. But dolby vision is a minor improvement compared to hdr10. You have to stop the frames to see the differences in really dark or light situations. Who knows, but still, not related to what i said

You can see the difference in the neon lights behind Deadpool. They're blurred with the Oppo, Not the Panasonic. That being said, there is another video that shows the 9000 against the less expensive Panasonic DP-UB820, and the 820 has the somewhat better picture, although not as many bells and whistles. They're all fine players. If I had an Oppo, I wouldn't get rid of it. If I had to choose, between the three, I'd take the 820. I'm sure something better and less expensive is right around the corner.

probably should change that resolution output to 4k/60p (4:4:4) to get higher chroma subsampling and the full color accuracy.
@BUZDRIFT5 жыл бұрын
4.4.4 is still a compressed color grading format, if only it were possible to run the full RGB spectrum!!! Ycbcr can send 4:4:4. Ycbcr is a a signal format different from RGB and meant to be more efficient. Ycbcr has Luma (brightness) information separate from chroma (color) which allows the subsampling of the latter (4:2:2 and 4:2:0) for more bandwidth but when you use 4:4:4 its virtually identical with RGB. Conversions between the two may cause some slight color inaccuracies but the measured differences are so small that they are almost in the margin of error domain. Definetly not invisible to the human eye

Yes Sir. Thats usually the case, but the epson 5040 that was used in this video isnt capable of 4.4.4. in 4k/60 or even 24 . If you set the setting to 4k/60 the projector plays in SDR. The epson only does HDR in 4k/24fps in 4.2.0. Thats why i went with the lower setting.

Great review! 4K player reviews are few and far between so I appreciate it. I’ll start with, I’m no audio/video expert. So I gave my left arm for a 8k Monoprice fiber hdmi for my Dennon AVR-X3700H and Sony A8H eARC pass through. When I opened the package I was like wtf because It was a directional cable? I tried it anyway, but it was not performing nearly as good as Zeskit Cinema Plus. I’m like, I guess it is only directional. So I connected it to my Apple TV4K to my Denon’s 2.1 8k input. I didn’t really see any difference in quality so I returned the cable. I just now realized Denon has been having problems with there 2.1 8k input so now I’m wondering if that it was the problem was? I don’t think so because I was only putting a 4K signal through it, but idk. Anyway just thought I’d mention that. Cool story bro. I liked the part in the middle the best.

And I also like that the OPPO Has 2 Output and a input I find the input useful. But I do have a question for you what do you like about the HDMI fiber cables and what advantage do they have over the certified 4K HDMI cables thanks And I like your show
@ThatHomeTheaterDude5 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. If the panasonic came out last year while oppo was still around then i think it would be a more apt comparison. Seriously both are great, but in the spirit of the video I chose the Panasonic. Functionally I think the oppo wins hands down. The panasonic has its quirks with the longer load and scene skip times. The whole point of the video was to show just out of the box does it look great. I know other youtubers have done videos of the panasonic and i didnt want to talk about the same points. So i focused on video performance. I dont take your comments as mean. I know there are alot of people out there that love their oppos. Hope I didnt offend either. thanks for the reply. Very constructive. :)
