I find a divine irony in having a PSX disk warning that you may damage your CD player on the opening track of an album famous for disk rot.

Panchiko is really nice, especially this album

I really did not expect that consensus on Owain's vocals, I've always liked them, I don't think it would be even close to the same album without them.

I can kinda believe it, especially with the inspo from Radiohead

This could have perfectly been made in the 2000s, even though I don’t think it was.
@Kyoko_026 ай бұрын
@@michthegrinder1678I personally think it was, have you listened to their remakes of the older songs & their newer stuff? You'll hear that the vocals are completely different, Owains vocals have aged. On top of that, there are pictures of them from those older days and pictures of them now. Can't see how you'd fabricate that.

I thought so too, but there are plenty of bands doing the exact thing as panchiko, but they are very underground

Lo Fi existed way before 2000 tho. As mentioned Guided by Voices had that sound down, so did Pavement, even Velvet Underground if you wanna go back all the way to the sixties

This record is very much special in the sense that it's evocative of a time and space that's uniquely distant, the image of 4 guys producing this by themselves and enjoying it, putting it to disk and then it being abandoned until somebody picked it up again and sparked the flame. The tracks themselves aren't mind-blowing obviously but they're nice, it's the kind of vibe you can just fall into and let it drift you to somewhere else, especially the last track, Deathmetal and The Eyes of Ibad are the most interesting in terms of production and soundscape, while Laputa is a bit too short to add much more to the album experience and Stabilisers for Big Boys is kind of repetitive and the vocals overstay their welcome. The Kicking Cars EP tracks definitely adds more to the experience, they have more dynamics and energy compared to most of Deathmetal.

Imo not rlly from the 2000s, just hearing it i feel like fhey want you to imagine they drew inspiration from showgaze adjacent acts like Radiohead. but the sound overall along with how perfectly it lines up with niche culture on the internet in todays world leads me to believe the album is far more recent. Probably made around the time frame of 2016 which is when the post about finding it in a thrift was made, also fake imo. When you take a step back its all very impressive with how long its taken for them to see much mainstream success keeping up the "lie" the whole time.
