Panda Touch Impressions: Touch Screen Upgrade for Bambu Lab P1P and P1S

As a new P1S owner, I picked one up during the live-stream launch because I figured I must be missing something because I barely touch the screen on my printer. Turns out you just don't need to touch that screen (other than manually changing filament if you don't have an AMS) and I do find the cable hanging across the top of the machine a big ugly and not thought out. I've moved it to the right with a custom mount and tucked the cable away behind it, but I still just don't find myself interacting with the screen enough. Sure it was only $39 so it's not a huge investment but I'm struggling to actually find a use for it. Maybe in a future update we might get thumbnails and some other enhancements that might improve its usefulness.

I just got my P1S with AMS. I wanted the X1C but just could not constitute the price difference over features as just a hobbyist. The screen is something I really wanted from the X1. I am still waiting on my Panda to come in and have already started to use the P1S. Now coming from a Prusa Mk3 that I have used for 8 years, I am used to a small screen and the cumbersomeness of dialing through it. I find the small screen of the P1S is not as horridly bad as everyone makes it out to be. The only draw back I see is the lack of the AMS information at my touch without using an app or computer. That's what I truly bought it for. But it is also not a huge deal breaker. I could have lived without it. But for $50-$60 I figured why not. I think it is the relatively cheap price that sold me. Had it broke the $100 mark I would not have gotten it. I debated an X touch but the Panda is a larger screen and is a more polished option.

Fair reveiew. I watched another video on this and Bambu are going to look at a way of blocking this in the near future or at least taming its application. I think we would all just love an aftermarket product that matches the x1 and be done with it. Bambu need to supply this and i am sure they would sell a hat full. The one on the P1S is horribble to use and I don't use it anyway. Just my thoughts.

I assume they wouldn't want to sell a screen for the P1P/P1S otherwise it might take away an upsell opportunity. Frustrating that the lower cost printer, and top end one, both have good screens, but the P1P/P1S have that awful little screen.

I really love the removable design. Like you said if you didn’t want to get your phone out, you can just take that screen and have dedicated info available at a glance. Going an cooking dinner or doing something in another room *pops off screen*

The product arrived today and I used it. Mine also had an unstable Wi-Fi connection. When I turned the machine off and on, the Wi-Fi was not recognized. I had to restart it several times to reconnect. I thought it was just mine, but when I saw the video, it wasn't. I hope there will be firmware that will solve the sudden shutdown problem.

Looks cool, and I have a P1S, but it doesn't look good enough for me wanting to buy one. Web or phone app. works fine, so I don't use the display 99% of the time. Yes the X1C one is SO much better, and the P1S screen is almost completely useless. They should have just left the display off. I use the X1C display slightly more, but not that much.

Great video - thanks. But why do you keep calling the display "kindle-like"? It's nothing like a Kindle reader and even less like a Kindle tablet. Is there a device which has an LCD display?

Does it sync up the runtime statistics that are already on the device or does it start at zero once installed? I don’t want to lose the stats of runtime I’ve already used the device if I don’t have to

For those who do not know. The P1S has a build in Cache that keeps the last print you've done, and you can re print from there :D

Why not just use the mobile app? To bring cost down most likely manufacturers will start selling without display.
