It's crazy to see Phil's transformation from 1994 to 1996. In 1994, he was a smiling, happy guy. He would joke around and his eyes lit up. He had an easy going and fun attitude and vibe. When he started taking heroin, everything about his personality and demeanour completely changed. He became MEAN and dark and serious and obviously, his brain faculties (his speech and his thinking) slowed down a lot. His eyes also turned black. It's as though the heroin robbed him of his soul.

Still I remember the 96 as a very good year for rock. It vas Tool with Aenima, Marilyn Manson with Atichrist Superstar, Sepultura with Roots. It was great. Maby the last big rock year in history.

doesn't matter if phill was banged up on H, these guys were the most explosive metal band! you got vinnie a greek God on the drums, his brother will go down in history not because of tragedy but he was a unique and a genius guitar player!! And the bass player was great aswell.then you have phill, the best front man ever, all around the band had a killer chemistry! i think phill had his reasons for taking time off...but how do you not return to the chemistry that you had and form bands that didn't cradle a candle to the chemistry that you had??damit...

He is the Metal God and he broke his back for his fans. I think he should of got more support when he was in the the middle of his pain and addiction. He was never to damaged to play. Vinny thought he was leaving Pantera when really he was just doing local side projects with other bands or friends while his back healed. It could of all been worked out and i think it would of happened if Dime was alive( They were in the mists of making back up from what Rita Dimes wife stated.)

But even great alternative records were put out : One hot minute of RHCP, Live is peachy, unplugged of AiC, pinkerton of weezer, no code of pearl jam...damn, i miss those days, i do not listen to bands of 2000's

The thing that pisses me off the most is that MTV does not even live up to it's name anymore. The only thing you'll see is pregnant 15 year old girls crying about having babies, stupid jersey shore idiots partying and drinking, and other shit which does NOT relate to music of any sort and this is coming from a 19, almost 20 year old born in 91 who wished to be part of a generation when the music universe actually meant something. I'm glad their are others who feel they need to be born earlier.

You're right. But if you start to use any drug every day, it'll do that. Alcohol every day = the same thing. I've been using marijuana for about 3 years. The first year, I smoked every day, but then I realized that it didn't effect as much as I wanted. So the solution was: SMOKE LESS! So now I've started to smoke 2 times a month or less. And the effect is always enjoyable. Some wise man once said: "Cannabis should be a spice in life, not the main meal." So, never put it on the #1 in life.

@MrBreedhate Well said, good sir. Good, talented musicians are a valuable commodity these days. I suppose it's always been this way, but the media expounds upon the success of lesser artists much more now. And MTV is a circus; it glorifies the most degenerate behavior in society, and makes impulsiveness and the sense of entitlement that youth have these days look trendy.

i think you are right AND wrong, many people including close family members of mine smoke weed to help the damaging effects of illness' like MS. which helps to stop pains in their body and helps relaxes their muscles, but also doing drugs has had also negative effects on people, like Phil, people use drugs to dull pain, Phil was wrong to do it in the way that he did but he was doing what he thought was right, drugs are a bad thing and good thing. it depends on how you use them.

When you have a problem with some drug, then it's normal to be worried. When you're using some drug and it feels good before and after taking it, it's not a problem. The reason why people are worried of using for example marijuana, is because of 50 years of propaganda against it. When you've said "NO!" for your whole life, it's difficult to say "Yes!" We have one life to live, (at least on this planet and with this mind) so why would you live that life like someone's telling you to live.

I don't take anything stronger than alcohol either. I only use marijuana and sometimes alcohol. And do you know the reason why some people take stronger drugs after marijuana? Here it is: Cannabis is illegal, so dealers are the ones you can buy it from. Dealers often have some stronger and also more expensive drugs, that they get from higher position dealers. So, of course they want their customers to buy those more expensive ones. The reason why cannabis might be dangerous = it's ILLEGAL!

@VileVengeance John probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Phil. Phil can sing, yell, scream with the best of them just check out Pantera, Down, and Superjoint Ritual for reference. Vinnie is a top notch drummer whereas Rice is a generic death metal drummer. There is nothing special about JFAC. If you want real death metal, I suggest picking up the new Immolation, Nile, or Behemoth

I'm agree with you that if marijuana was legal, it could be better and less full of shit, but the effects will be minor at long term, and that's the reason why people search stronger drugs. 2 years smoking marijuana every day (1 or 2, you don't need more) will give you immunity to little quantities of marijuana. What happens now? Cocaine, crack or heroine will give you stonger effects by less price (in propotion of quantity) so... That's my oppinion
