I recently really got into detailing and you have been a huge inspiration! I did my first coating with Gyeon Pure EVO, and now I have sooo many Gyeon products 😁 recently was able to get my own cabinet to organize my microfibers as well and it is amazing. I used to have one shelf on an open rack and it was so cluttered and disorganized. Thank you for what you do, I have truly found a love for detailing. I have a mostly touchless method (using a foam canon) going with our Alfa Romeos, but with a couple of special requirements. First and foremost, we had our new house built with a drain and a hot/cold soft water supply. So no sunlight and no hard water, two of the most detrimental factors in my previous 45 years of cleaning cars. I rinse and clean with a pressure washer, which really gets the bug guts, mud and most surprisingly, a lot of the brake dust. The I use the Adam's foam canon using the wonderful Chemical Guys Honeydew soap. At this point, I only use a clean wet mitt to scrub the car, if it had dried road film/salt on it. Otherwise, I let it the foam dwell for 5 minutes or so. I thoroughly rinse with the pressure washer and blow dry. Once a month, I do a final (post blower dry) dry using microfiber towels and P&S Beadmaker. It works wonderfully. The only time I touch our cars 90% of the time is the post blow dry, final towel drying (which isn't much). I think that what makes this method really work is the soft water (an often overlooked issue, IMO) and the P&S Beadmaker. For me, the take-away is that minerals in the water (whether from the wash water supply or embedded in the the road grime) is the real enemy of a "touch-less" wash.

Snowfomed the truck dry, dwell for 5 mins, water pressure wash off and then used the TW slick n Slide. Hand Mitt for contact cleaning, water pressure wash off and then I used. I don't see many of these products on sale in the Netherlands, but I find Gyeon foam to be the best for me out of the ones I've tried. It works ok with a pump sprayer, better than some other brands. I bought snowfoam years ago thinking that it would clean the car without touching it. BS! It's only great if your car sat in the garage clean and collected dust. That's about it. But like you said you have to be careful in the drying stages and use lubricants to prevent scratching. Thanks for your wisdom.
@PanTheOrganizer

There are snow foams that actually do some deeper cleaning, but they are usually higher pH. Case in point, my video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2jdaZSgpM-FjKssi=zICnd7RDEnvEMcgU But regardless, a snow foam is just part of the prewash. You still have to follow with a contact wash if you want 100% clean results. There’s no such thing as a touchless car wash at the moment.

Soap-foaming your vehicle helps loosen the grime and softens bird droppings, and bug splatter, and a bit of degreasing. Foam, let soak for a few minutes, and rinse. You should do this prior to contact washing. The use of soft water (water softeners) and filtering minerals, iron, and other possible contaminates is preferred if available but most people do not as they either reside in an apartment complex or their home is not set up which is not as simple as Pan has you believing because some people do not have the space or money to purchase all this Auto Detailing equipment. Do the best you can with what you have. Your automobile will never be as perfect as it was coming off the production/assembly line unless you start from scratch and spend a whole lot of money on doing it better than from the factory. Custom built that is, encased in glass or impenetrable container, to never be driven, only showcased. Again, do the best you can with the money you budgeted for keeping and maintaining your vehicle in drivable and clean condition [Safety First]. Just a reminder "Nothing lasts forever!".

The most important message I try to tell people is to go out there and enjoy taking care of your car. It should be a fun process. To me, it's not a chore. It's a soothing and relaxing experience. I want people to be able to make it a passion too. And yes, people can absolutely do a great job without having to spend thousands on fancy equipment and expensive products. When I started detailing at 16 years of age, I didn't have the budget I have today, and still made miracles happen. As I grew older, and my passion for detailing became an obsession, I could afford the better equipment and the more expensive products which allowed me to indulge in my passion further and create a channel too. There are good products at all price points. Find something you like, at a price you can afford, and enjoy using it. :)

Thanks for the video, Pan. I don't have the luxury of having running water at my apartment. My car cleaning process is taking my car to a DIY coin car wash. I'll foam the car using a Marolex Axel Foamer with a bit of Koch-Chemie GSF and a small amount of my APC to give it a bit of bite. I'll let the foam dwell for a bit and spray the car down using the pressure washer. Then I pull out of the bay and spray the car down with ONR out of a spray bottle and use my Ego blower to dry it off. I'll then drive the car home and and give it a rinseless contact wash. This has been working well for me.
@kevinclancy777
@kevinclancy777 Жыл бұрын
In the spirit of just playing devil's advocate on one point - I think you could make an argument against applying the rinseless pre-treat or rinsing first. The way I look at it - the snow foam should be doing that job and putting something on before it would cause the foam to not cling as long and may also dilute it. I know Griots for one advocates applying their foam products to a dry car...

Thanks, Pan, for another consistently excellent video. One reason that I'm averse to using these highly acidic or alkaline detergents is because of the effect on rubber and plastic trim. If I were to use one, I would follow up the wash with an application of some protectant to the plastic and rubber to keep them from drying out.

I don't recommend using high or low pH snow foams on a regular basis. Use it on an as needed basis, every other month or when a deeper cleaning is needed. And in all these years of detailing, I have yet to see any uses once common sense is applied and the products are used correctly. I mean they were formulated by car detailing manufacturers that understand the surfaces well. We're not talking about using a house grade soap on a vehicle here. Automotive grade stuff made by reputable brands. For regular weekly washes though, all that is needed is a pH neutral snow foam, and pH neutral soap as I mentioned in the video. :)

Long had a nice new car, got back into car detailing after many years away. Only have a few items amd a small budget. I got a Karcher K4, MJJC snow cannon and a bottle of Turtle Wax Snow Foam Shampoo. All I'm doing right now is snow foaming and letting it dwell before rinsing and then snow foaming again and doing a contact wash, then dry with a microfibre towel. I find the pre rice foam gets rid of all that top surface and lose dirt off before doing the main contact wash. Car always comes out looking shiny and clean. Next upgrade will probably be a pH neutral shampoo for the contact wash. Although my water is quite soft, I still get some water spotting especially on the glass.

Great video Pan. I’ve noticed that European KZbinrs do snow foam differently than Americans. They like a runny snow foam. They always rinse after applying a snow foam and then they don’t reapply it. Your method is similar to how Matt Moreman washes his cars(although you’re more thorough)
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
There are many ways to wash a car. There is not one single correct way. In fact, rarely do you see two channels wash cars the exact same way. I personally prefer a bit runnier foam (hence why I like the Bilt Hamber so much, and CarPro Lift) as they will drag the dirt down with them, but some prefer a thicker shaving cream like thickness. I don't really mind runny vs thick, as it comes down to personal preference. What's more important is what type of snow foam you are using. If it's a regular weekly maintenance, stick to pH neutral. If it's heavier grime removal, then aim for higher pH. As discussed in the video.
@DanielReyes-hz1qk
@DanielReyes-hz1qk Жыл бұрын
First off, grouping Americans in a single category is ridiculous, as Americans are all colors, races, creeds and ethnicities. That being said, everyone has their preferences. If you're happy with your results, do what you do. My favorite snow foam/pre-wash is Bilt Hamber Auto Foam which is very 'runny' but cleans like the dickens. But the traditional waxes I use don't care for it much so I use Turtle Wax Pure Wash as both my 'snow foam' and my bucket wash. Honestly it's on the runny side as well. I never cared for the 'shaving cream' type snow foams as they always felt to 'dry' for me. My car has been hit four times now parked at work, once I finally get it fixed and re-painted I'm going to use a ceramic coating and enjoy using the remainder of the BH Auto Foam gallon that's been sitting on my garage shelf

Based on what I’ve seen, sometimes the prewash foams can work (pending brand) but with my car being covered in PPF it still clings to that fine sort of dust/dirt film . Usually comes off with the second stage foam hand wash (now if the thanksgiving long weekend weather plays ball)

Question is, whats the most effective ph neutral foam? By suggesting its a regular maintenance wash product, is the actual cleaning power not a factor? Is it just to make what ever dirt there is a bit wetter so it comes off the paint easier on the contact wash?

I’m not a detailer but i wash My 3 Hellcat vehicles 2x a week and i have to wash outside. I like to pre rinse with water 1st. So it gets the paint temperature down to a normal temp. I have my hot water set up to it too so i can mix temp of my hose water to a Luke warm and i have a whole house water softener hooked to just the hot water side of my house. So I’m not shocking the paint temp either way with my rinse water. So it doesn’t matter if the car dries off a bit before i do the foam because the paint temp is still neutral temp. So i use Luke warm water to pre rinse-then do foam and let it sit for few then rinse again & wipe bottom of car all the way around-then foam again and hand wash whole thing. Been doing it for 3 years and no scratches and paint looks new. I have 2 that are that Diamond black which everyone i know has spider webs in it and i have a B5 blue one. No spider webs at all. I do use a touch free car wash place sometimes and they have an amazing wax it puts on. It’s called Cerama bond or Cera Bond or something like that and it’s amazing. Can’t buy it which sucks but this car wash charges double than everyone else but it really does a good job and does different spray techniques and different soft & heavy rain drop down effects on your car-it’s pretty clever. It’s weird that in my area in the last year they’ve put in 8 big fancy car washes in just a 1.5 mile radius and they are all touch car washes. How do car makers not say something about not washing your car this way. These places are jammed packed everyday all day-they are huge and have like 50 stations for you to do everything to your car after getting those brushes beat into your paint. Why do manufacturers not put these places out of business? I’m in Florida-a lot of electric cars start on fire -some places don’t allow electric cars and some say no Teslas specifically because of fire risk. Lol. Stupid electric cars. So yeah just yesterday i saw another touchless wash place get bought and they’re going to put in another brush wash place-unreal. There’s so many car washes people are starting to complain to zoning board. I’ve had paint go bad on some expensive vehicles in past and never used brush type washes & have had dealers give me fresh paint job for free under warranty but i bet if i went thru those brush car washes they wouldn’t have. Just keep in mind people-just because they make these washes doesn’t mean they’re good for your car and then the resale & warranty will cost you.

I think you should foam and then with a regular waterhole rinse. I think using a hose with just the end of it (no attachment) instead of a hose gun which adds more pressure to the paint which in turn adds more pressure to the dirt is less likely to cause damage. Then I would spray APC and foam a second time and then I would contact wash. APC step could be done on the first foaming also.

I love that it can also be used in a snow canon so I use it as added lubricant during maintenance wash because I get cars that are parked outside and the dust is "baked" into the clear coat and I honestly can't imagine just doing a contact wash without first spraying the foam, waiting few minutes to kind of "melt" and lubricate it, rinse it and then snow foam it again and do the contact wash with RESET in my backet. 😃 Great informative video, Pan! Thank you 👌🙂. Question - where would you put carpro iron snow soap? Added lubricant? Regular maintenance wash? Or with Lift every 4-6 months? Thank you! 🙂
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
I prefer to use the stronger IronX when I need to do chemical decon on customer vehicles. And my car has carbon ceramic brakes, so I don't have iron particles and brake dust, so no need for such soaps in my case. I guess I would use IronX Snow Soap once every other month on a vehicle with steel rotors perhaps, kind of like Gyeon Restart Wash.

What car soap is able to remove the most gunk and dirt but yet remains safe for ceramic coating? Something that can be used often, powerful on grime yet gentle on ceramic coated cars? Making the foam application remove 70% of that gunk before hand wash? Any recommendations?

As I said in the video, for regular weekly washes stick to pH neutral snow foams and shampoos. Once in a while for a deeper clean you can use the stronger snow foams on ceramic coated cars no problem. Bilt Hamber Touch-Less, CarPro Lift, Koch Chemie Active Foam, etc

Thank you Pan, such great info! I live in Florida and have to wash my car outside, no shade. You really hit the nail on the head when you explained the Ph neutral soaps being important to keep away water spots ! After I do the pre-wash rinse, and then the contact wash itself (with Ph neutral soap), I use Formula 4 spray wax (10:2) in a foam cannon over the car before I rinse the soap away. Once it's applied, most of the soap starts rolling off the panel, making the final rinse a breeze AND any water that tries to dry on the panel are polymer spots that wipe away without effort. Thanks for what you do and share- you have made my weekend warrior details so much faster and more efficient !

After listening to the the DIY detail discussion on 1 or 2 bucket wash I will be foaming 2 times. That dude has been detailing cars longer then I’ve been alive. Loses dirt is most likely rinsed off after firsts foam application. The second application provides tones of surfactant lubricant. Yvan Lacroix said most of us actually scratch our paint when drying. I always thought two buckets was kind of redundant. Just my useless 2¢.

In another video you applied snow foam from the bottom up which followed the instructions for the product you were using. What is your general philosophy on bottom up or top down for the pre wash stage? I have been trained that bottom up cleaning is best, but I see many claiming that top down is best. The logic behind bottom up is that it moistens the thick dirt first and prevents rivlets forming if you were to wet the dirt top down. I did a quick search and it was hilarious that both of the approaches cited the thickest dirt being on the bottom as the reason to follow that method.
@PanTheOrganizer

It doesn't really matter in my opinion. I just like to experiment and play around and see if stuff works best, which is what I encourage my viewers to do as well. Typically, I will foam (doesn't matter if you foam bottom up, or up to bottom), and rinse from top to bottom. I have not seen real significant differences in both methods, and anyone that has tried to convince me otherwise usually can't haha. Don't overthink the moment. What is more important is what type of snow foam you are using (lubrication = pH neutral, cleaning = alkaline pH)

@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
You can absolutely use higher pH snow foams on coated vehicles, it's just that I wouldn't use them for regular weekly washes, as there's no point in doing that, and repeated high pH use could potentially start to weaken the protection. A few times a year using BH Touch-Less is fine (I use it on my Porsche every other month with no issues) for deeper cleanings like in spring time. But I wouldn't use the BH at 5% PIR for my bi-weekly washes. I use pH neutral snow foams. Or use the BH at a 2% PIR if you want to use it more often. And by "ceramic coating" I'm assuming you meant a true coating in glass bottle right? Those have higher chemical resistance compared to "spray coatings".

In the video around 8:40 mark you state you would pre-rinse vehicle, then snofoam, rinse, then snow foam again to then mechanical wash. I don’t disagree - just wrapping my head on process. I have rinseless but going to be adding snow foam to my process and would be great if your process would be typed out for me to follow.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
A pH neutral snow foam won't necessarily do deep cleaning, but it will still help to encapsulate and lift and bit of the loose dirt and debris off the car. Acting as lubrication while you are pressure rinsing the vehicle. Instead of just water hitting the paint at high pressures and driving the dirt in the paint, you get the snow foam to act as a barrier and lubrication, allowing the grit to be flushed out with reduced chances of marring. The boys over at DIY Detail explain this process quite well in their videos.

But since the Adams Polishes and AutoFanatic soaps are for washing purposes, but can be used in a snow foam, don’t they actually clean the vehicle instead of just providing lubrication? I for example do a contact wash, but use them both as a pre-wash and a shampoo.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It doesn't quite work that way with those specific soaps. The chemical alone doesn't always do the work, you need mechanical agitation as well to work the shampoo on the surface. You can see what a pH neutral shampoo does on its own compared to higher pH snow foams on a panel, with no agitation in the video I linked in the description Do snow foams actually work?". ;)

I park under sappy fruit trees at home and live on a gravel road. My paint isn't going to stay pristine no matter how much I care for it. Leaving it parked for 4 hours gets 4 bird poops 20 berries, a layer of sap, snd a film of dust from the drive in and out. I don't have time to do a full wash routine every other day and even if I did I wouldn't care enough to do so. I just want to knock the fresh layer of crap off of it without going to an automated car wash all the time so a quick foam cannon and high pressure rinse does more than I need it to.

You never need to use Reload after each weekly wash. That’s overkill. It is recommended to apply a topper once every 2-3 months in a coated car. In your case, that’s when I would apply Reload.

Hey pan! I’m curious to hear your view in my situation. I did a full decon and clay and the 3d one step prior to adams advanced graphene coat. Garage kept and the car was spotless. I washed the car and used adams graphene detail spray before leaving the car overnight. Next day i had water-spots all over that look etched in. I’m really aggravated with what happened after hours of work on the car Just from one night. I’m hoping you might have an idea to what might’ve happened. Thanks

Hey pan. Should I use ph neutral car shampoo for ceramic coated car or any car shampoo would do?
@PanTheOrganizer

For regular weekly washes, use a wax-free pH neutral soap. See my ceramic coating maintenance wash tutorial here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6KsiGpue9KFj7csi=Z-fsSftAMfUVHt9V Once in a while like in spring you can do a heavier deeper cleaning with higher or lower pH soaps like in my ultimate spring decon wash tutorial here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYXEd3iVpZeCd9ksi=AE-ia7n83yufH9-C

Sir, I plan on using Car Pro Descaler on my wifes 2024 Acura MDX to prep the car for Dr Beasleys Bead Hero. It has PPF on the front half of the car. Is Descaler safe for PPF?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It should be but ask your PPF installer to make sure as certain PPF could have different instructions.

My enemy in the winter magnesium chloride as a road salt. It’s a sticky slimy mess. Which snow foam and what Ph is best for MgCl?
@RojohII
@RojohII Жыл бұрын
BiltHamber Touch-Less is a good one. If the car is extremely dirty you might want to apply some form of degreaser (either citrus or petroleum-based) on the lower parts and then foam. Reason is that the film or layer of dirt also consists of oil/petroleumresidue since the roads usually are wet for a long time when roadsalt is used. The prewash foam prolongs the dwell time for the degreaser and also helps when rinsing the prewash-chemicals off the paint.

Bilt Hamber Touch-Less is my favourite during winter months with our road salts. I spoke to the owner and chemist at BH and that product works super well for those salts. So it's not just a question of pH level, but also the rest of the chemistry behind it.

I don’t have any protection on my car just gyeon wet coat as a protection. What can I use to remove it if I’m going to polish the paint? Which product you recommend?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
The only way to fully remove ceramic based protection is by machine polishing. So while you are polishing, that will remove the protection. But before polishing, make sure you fully decontaminate the vehicle. Iron remover, claybar, etc.

You got any great suggestions on good measuring cups for the dilution ratios? Ones that can hold more liquid and where you can store solution in the bottle? I got the build Hamber and that things huge, hard to always pour it in a small measuring cup. Thanks!

Great explanation as always Pan! For my new Porsche I had ppf installed and ceramic coating on top of it, and I wash it every other week (here in Israel it’s just dust not salt).. Am I doing the car good by using Nanolex foam concentrate (in a medium dilution) ? Will a medium diluted Carpro Lift for example, be as safe as a ph neutral foam?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
CarPro Lift is still highly alkaline even when diluted, so no it's not meant for weekly washes like a traditional pH neutral shampoo. Use it on an "as needed basis" for deeper cleanings.

Hi Pan if i am rinsing the snow foam (in my case GSF) does the lubrication stays for the contact wash? My other question ;what about using the NanoMagic Shampoo in a foam canon for pre wash ? Thanks for your great work. Rgds Tamas
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 4 ай бұрын
If you want more lubrication for the contact wash, you re-foam. So you do the first snow foam, let it dwell, rinse, then re-foam, and then do the contact wash. You'd have Gsf in your bucket too. I don't use the NanoMagic shampoo so I have no recommendations on that. Welcome to my channel. I’m still a bit confused about the use of PH neutral snow foams as a pre wash. You say its to add lubrication and to prevent water spotting, not to remove any dirt. However we put the pre wash snow foam on and then after a period just rinse it off….. so we have just rinsed off all the lubrication and anti water spotting….. ie we are back at stage 1 without having removed any dirt?? I enjoy your videos , just a bit confused…..
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 9 ай бұрын
You will still remove a bit of the loose dirt due in part to the pressure washer, but at least that dirt will have a layer of lubrication with the pH neutral snow foam. So it's still better than not using a snow foam, and is totally fine if the vehicle isn't super dirty. I use pH neutral snow foams and soaps for regular weekly washes. Once in a while, when a car is super dirty, or in the spring to remove the winter muck, grime and road film, that's when a higher pH snow foam can play its role. It does a lot more dirt and road film removal in the pre-wash stage. Watch my video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2jdaZSgpM-FjKssi=w9bUTanbSXZ6uoFZ
