It's a real shame that Sky Sports couldn't be bothered to ask Paolo more about his time at Charlton, considering they covered every other club he played for. Even though we only had him for one season, he was one of the best players that I have seen in a Charlton shirt. We finished 7th in 2003/2004 our highest top flight finish since the 50's, what a player an even better man!
@Ironz892 жыл бұрын
Cause he never wanted to join Charlton he would of stayed at West Ham if roeder was sacked like he should of been after we was relegated
@MrMdonaghy72 жыл бұрын
@@Ironz89 lots of players left West Ham when you went down in 2003 then went on to have fantastic careers and haven't had the calibre of youngsters since. Di Canio will always been idolised at West Ham for obvious reasons, he became the main player for Charlton alongside Scott Parker before leaving for Chelsea. How much has changed for both West Ham and Charlton since then!

This interview was really insightful into Paolo's character as a man of honour. Total respect from me. He turned down Sir Alex Ferguson because he wanted to repay West Ham. Great guy. Meanwhile, Alan Shearer who turned down Man Utd for a dream move to play for his boyhood club and wear the #9 shirt still gets stick from Man Utd fans.

Also, after having such a brilliant time in England, I'm so glad that Di Canio doesn't just dismiss his time at Celtic and I think that's mainly because of the fans. I loved that season. We needed a Sheringham-like player too play for us that season. Teddy left in the summer of 2001 after being Player of the Year that season, a combination of Ruud + Di Canio with Solskjaer off of the bench from January onwards might have put a different spin on that title race entirely. It would have meant no Diego Forlan which is a heartbreaker in retrospect but the chance to make it 4 in a row would have been special.
