I was going to suggest you speak more of your thoughts on what you were planning, what you had in hand, and your general opinions, as that’s why I like your content (especially because I don’t think like a Boros player!). But you covered it all well and I appreciated the content

Thanks Ill keep it in mind. Definitely a big difference between calling it live and doing it afterwards, ill need to reconcile some of that.

When the Commander death rule changed from a replacement effect to a state based action, it changed how a mutated Commander functions. Old rules, the Oddsmaker would've gotten stranded in the Command Zone, current rules it goes to exile as normal and should've returned when Phi lost the monarch.
@riverketcherside1256
@riverketcherside1256 2 жыл бұрын
I am under the impression that you have this backwards. I got this from watching the Commandzone video where they discussed the mutate mechanic and the Commander's Quarters video where he was able to get his entire deck stranded in the command zone
@riverketcherside1256
@riverketcherside1256 2 жыл бұрын
Essentially from what I understood, old rules an oblivion ring would exile a commander, which could be stuck in the commandzone, but when the oblivion ring left, it would come back out of the commandzone. Under the new rules, if it is put into the commandzone then it is no longer tied to the oblivion ring effect. This combined with mutate making it all one permanent, means the entire stack has to go into either exile, the commandzone, the graveyard, the hand, the deck, etc. Essentially the Azra would've been stranded in the commandzone
@Dalenthas
@Dalenthas 2 жыл бұрын
@@riverketcherside1256 those videos came out at the same time as Ikoria, the Commander death rule changed a few months after that.

Under the old rules, a Commander going to the Command Zone was a replacement effect. It didn't go to any other zone first, it went straight to the CZ from the battlefield. Any creatures in a mutate stack with the Commander would move to the same zone as it, your choice as to exile or the Command Zone in this case. Under the new rules, the Commander first goes to the zone specified, in this case exile, then moves from there to the Command Zone. Any creatures in a mutate stack will separate on zone change, and thus stay in exile when the Commander moves.
@chrismarlow9585
@chrismarlow9585 2 жыл бұрын
Can confirm, David has it all correct. The important thing with mutate and changing zones is they go to the other zone together but then immediately split and become individual things each with whatever effect that was placed on them (if there's one which makes them return). It gets a bit more complicated with commanders because it can be confusing whether the split happens first or the moving to command zone, but I'm almost certain it's the split. If you can't convince someone you're playing with I'd use the argument that if the order was undecided by the rules then the owner should be allowed to order the effects, hence making the split happen first.

Dont worry. There was no power discrepancy. Smothering tithe plus wheel is like 7/8 mana and needs no one to be playing blue? Also your opponents could have all chosen zero for wheel of misfortune. Then you would have gotten no treasures. Keep making in person games, was fun to watch!

I might be missing something but that's a pretty major misplay. Yuriko is a Human so without changing her creature types you can't mutate on her.

Just to clarify, any mutated cards first go to the appropriate zone -- in the Oblation case, exile. As the Commander has moved zones, the Commander's owner then has the option of moving the Commander to the Command Zone. The same thing happens when a mutated creature goes to the graveyard: The entire creature, made of multiple cards, moves to the graveyard, then "breaks apart" into its component parts. The "breaking apart" happens before any "dies" triggers are put on the stack, as the "breaking apart" of a mutated creature is a state-based action that cannot be responded to.

Personally I subscribe to your channel because I like the live insight of someone playing a game who only knows public information. I'm not a huge fan of watching streamed games because I also find the board state hard to read. So this content isn't for me, but I imagine it might really appeal to others and you should definitely do what keeps you energised! Thank you for all the videos!

Always enjoy your content. I prefer watching your MTGO content. I think the difference between MTGO and paper magic for me is paper typically is more social which this style of video doesn't focus on. I like your commentary and deck building style which I think is easier to follow on MTGO

I liked this format a lot and the game seemed pretty fun. Mavinda deck looked really good! Do you think this would be something you'd do with a regular playgroup or randos only? A couple of small tweaks that I would like to see: 1) Don't use alters on board if possible. If I miss something being cast then it's harder for me to work out what's in play 2) Please use the spelltable turn thing (orange box) or some other way to show whose turn it is

Hey, PJ! Thank you for this video! I enjoyed seeing your paper angel deck. That said, I'm not sure that this format added anything to my viewing experience. HOWEVER, I think that spelltable/paper games would be a blast to watch if you allowed us to hear the natural banter of the players. It might also be less work for you, since you could just put the game audio on the video and edit out any deadspace.

Vid format reminded me of mtg muddstah channel. In all honesty tho I don’t see much of a difference considering the extra work you need to do. Its not like you can hear table talk. I’d just stick with the MTGO. You can see the cards better too on MTGO especially when you zoom in on it.

I actually prefer mtgo videos because we can see your hand and think about the possible plays. Also, imo, the animation of the cards in the middle is a bit distracting. It would probably be better if they just appeared and disappeared again instead of zooming in and out.

Lol i dont know if that was the take away here. Some cards I like being expensive, mana crypt, mana drain. Any of the stuff that you dont really want to be seeing very often. People generally just limit those cards to their strongest decks, then you dont have to face them when your playing something truly mid powered.
