Don't know if Chugga is going to mention it later, but I feel the need to give out this helpful piece of advice regarding the Blooper for those playing along. There are actually THREE encounters with Bloopers in the sewers, with each one being harder than the last. Two of the encounters are along required routes through the sewers. BUT, their encounters are based on when you face them, not *where* you face them. So it is entirely possible to save the encounter before the Shrink Stomp badge until much later and for you to be facing the third and hardest variant there and then as a bonus boss rather than as a required fight.

Goombario's Log Day 11: We went around the southern part of Toad Town today and met up with Tayce T., the Toad Town chef. She was able to make a lot of good items for us that will no doubt help us on our adventure. We also visited the harbor and saw someone fishing. I don't really like fish myself, but hey, to each their own. Then we went into the sewers and fought gloombas and a Blooper guarding a badge. Then, just north of the train station was the Playroom and the Lil' Oinks farm. We lost our money at the Playroom and didn't see a single Lil' Oink at all. But hey, next time we should be able to head to Dry Dry Desert to find the next Star Spirit. Kooper's Log Day 6: Doo do do do do do, Doo do do do do do. Man, those sewers bring back so many memories for me. I remember when me and my friends would wonder into the sewers and mess around together. It was such a blast, that is until some jackbros came in and started hitting us from underneath and flipping us over. And then they kicked us. Man, if I could see the person that did that to me, I would give them a piece of my mind (P.S. Yes, I know those were called "Shell Creepers" in the arcade and aren't actually Koopas but just go with it okay.) Bombette's Log Day 5: Well, my life flashed before my eyes today. We made our way to the Train Station, but before heading there we decided to visit the Playroom Koopa Koot told us about. For some reason, Mario took us to the back of the Lil' Oinks farm and told me to blow up in this exact spot. I was confused as to why, but I did it anyways. And then, out of nowhere a pipe appeared from the ground and it led to the Playroom. What? Kooper: Hey, Goombario. Goombario: What is it Kooper? Kooper: How come you don't like fish? Goombario: I don't know. Just, never really liked it. Bombette: Come on, there's got to be a reason you don't like it. Goombario: Look, it's just, they're so slimy and scaly. *shivers* Just saying it gives me the creeps. Bombette: I don't know, that sounds like a pretty, Cheep-Cheep shot don't you think. Kooper: Ay! Up top! *high-fives Bombette* *elsewhere in the Mushroom Kingdom* ???: Hmm? I don't know why but I think I gonna kick a Goomba's butt someday.

Tayce T. being able to cook up meals with one ingredient reminds of that one One Piece clip of Sanji making a feast out of a single cherry. 0:11 We’re getting closer. Just maybe need to get lucky again or come in better prepared, and I think you could feasibly beat him at this point, though again, the Dojo does not reward you with anything beneficial to your quest other than practice. 1:03 Genuinely bad advice, that bit about whirlwinds. What did whirlwinds ever do to you? Well you won’t ever get lost if you have Official Nintendo Power Player’s Guide! Or access to the internet which you must have considering you’re watching this video and/or reading this comment. I hear his source likes to share secrets via burps. Toad Town is a genuinely massive hub area at six screens, largest town/city in the game. Compare that to TTYD’s Rogueport which has five screens, and though the central area is larger than a single screen in Toad Town, one of the screens is pretty small and is just for transportation with only a couple Star Pieces to be found in it, which kinda offsets that central area. As great as a chef Tayce T. is being able to improve just about any ingredient she’s given into a full blown meal, she doesn’t know how to work with more than one ingredient…but she could. At the same time though, summoning Eldstar consumes Star Energy which you may want to save for other Star Powers. Or maybe you don’t have enough Star Energy to use Refresh and you need something close to it STAT. At any rate, the spicy soup is the first item we’ve seen to restore both HP and FP. Previously, it’s been either or, not both and. Spicy Soup is also notable in that this is a required item in Super Paper Mario in order to get Peach to join your party and proceed with the game. It’s the only time where the chef’s services are mandatory to the plot unless you include acting as a roadblock as being one of a chef’s service. 3:10 Better than the Koopa Leaf/Tea though less common since you have to farm that one tree instead of getting them from numerous trees/bushes and as drops. We can effectively make Maple Syrups whenever we want provided we have access to Goomnuts. 4:00 Your partner is still able to act in that time, so this could be one way to help beat the Master since he never targets your partners and can’t hurt them in any way. 4:20 The Super Soda and Refresh for that matter. Still, it’s cheap. 5:12 Don’t forget that you can sell items in this game, and Tayce T.‘s foods are generally worth more than the ingredient used to make it. This can be a good albeit slow way to make some extra cash if you want to buy more Badges or to play in the Playroom for more cash. The board now tells us what our Power Bounce record is too. 7:32 Maybe Goombario knows something about that room. 8:12 I’m pretty sure those are glasses? Unfortunately Mario cannot fish in this game (unlike Sonic in Sonic Frontiers), thus this is not a true video game. Wow, Goombario. Don’t let any Cheep Cheeps hear you say that. 9:10 Another Paper Mario exclusive. Pretty sure he’s exclusive to this game too. “Koopa Troopas aren’t people.” - A Toad. Already got two racist/specist remarks in less than a minute from two different and unrelated people. None of the Koopas in the village looked particularly big. Wonder who this Kent C could be. Sounds like a real pain. 10:20 Barkeeps in the OG PM Trilogy’s Mushroom Kingdom seem to all wear glasses. 11:10 I see, he’s French. The Diva (the Toad to the right of Simon) has lost her voice. It seems that the earthquake didn’t just knock over the bar’s glasses, it shocked the Diva so much to the point that she can’t speak much less sing. 11:30 See, Goombario? You don’t have to have fish. They could’ve called this place Toad Town Sewers. It’s more accurate but it loses the alliteration. 12:10 Speaking of lighting engine, these sewers are pretty well lit for an area with no apparent light source. Most sewers in Mario games are for that matter. 13:40 Spiked Goombas and variations thereof always have one more attack power than their non-spiked counterparts. Also Bombette felt some obligation for us hearing her out and also wanted to show the Koopa Bros. what for so her interests aligned. Plus it’s not like she’s got anything better to do than travel with us. 15:15 I like how you can see the Spiked Gloomba just waiting at the top of that block from an angle. 16:20 He’s got as much health as the Koopa Bros. and their Bowser mech combined. None of the defense though, but he also hurts as much as three Koopa Bros. too. We’re definitely seeing a power creep coming a long, Jr. aside. You’d think the ink would hit your partner too, but thankfully not. Also because Blooper floats, Kooper and Bombette are completely useless in this fight. 17:05 I kinda hope Blooper follows the rule of three and inks Emile again. It would be so funny to watch his whole Volt Shroom plan would get undermined by RNG. OK that Pretty Lucky chance makes this all the better. RNGesus is feeling spiteful towards Emile. 19:00 Even if the enemy is immobilized or unable to act, the counter goes down each time Mario’s and his partner’s turn ends. There’s no speed stat in this game so it’s always Mario’s side followed by the enemy’s unless there’s a First Strike involved. I think there’s a Shrink Smash in TTYD. Could be wrong. 20:12 Consent! Consent! Why do Bub-ulbs sound like Wiggler? 23:10 Who needs to work Tayce T. to her bones when you’ve got save states and Koopa Koot? Coins are a non-issue at this point if you’re playing on Virtual Console or NSO…so that means Badges like Pay-Off and Refund are kinda useless now. 24:44 More Paper Mario 64 exclusives! While Mario may not be able to fish, he can partake in a Farming/Ranching Simulator…kinda. 25:33 Thankfully you don’t have to breed Lil’-Oinks to get that gold one like you would Chocobos. You just have to get lucky. 26:50 There are some good items to get from the Lil’-Oinks and you are by the Playroom too (game design! Gamble in the Playroom to try and get more money to Gamble at the farm!). Here’s the list of items as well as the percentage rates to pull them (remember, odds are out of 101) and the Oink they’re tied to: Tiger Stripes - 15.84%- Thunder Rage (because Kaminari are associated with Tiger stripes) White - 14.85% - Super Shroom Black - 14.85% - Dried Shroom Pink - 14.85% - Fire Flower Silver - 8.91% - Jammin’ Jelly (Restores 50 FP; this is the item that sells for 113 coins) Flower Pattern - 6.93% - Maple Syrup Question Marks - 6.93% - Repel Gel (Mario becomes invisible and all moves miss him. Stone Cap except Mario can act) Mushroom Spots/Toad - 6.93% - Life Shroom (Emergency Super Shroom. Can be consumed for 10 HP. Automatically consumed upon death) Star - 6.93% - Shooting Star (all* enemies hit for 6 damage. Pierces defense) ((*Only one enemy is outright immune to Shooting Stars)) Gold - 2.97% - Ultra Shroom (heals 50 HP) Jelly Shroom is 10 HP & 50 FP recovery. You normally get this through Tayce T. once her cooking has improved.

Although, it has already been revealed what the purpose of that house is in your LP, so the mystery bears a little less weight. 20:45 - Don't feel so ashamed of your slight misperception of that character's name. I am actually guilty of the same crime, haha! My logic for doing so was similar to yours with the addition being that I made the connection of his appearance to the Pokemon Bulbasaur for obvious reasons. But yeah, never figured it out/realized what the proper name of that creature was until several years ago in the 2010s. Overall, great episode! It was interesting how you weaved together and transitioned between diverse areas seemingly naturally (with the power of editing of editing of course) each with a different theme and purpose. I also despise that ink attack from the Blooper (even when I wasn't attempting to show an item mechanic) because I think I only managed to guard against it successfully once in my blind playthrough; the physical twirling attack it does is much easier to guard against in my opinion. Club 64 has a very nice ambience and classy vibe to it, I agree that it is a nice place in this game to just lounge about in and appreciate its atmosphere.

Loved the little edits throughout this episode! 8:53 Have to make at least one Book of Mario reference, in Thousands of Doors regular Goombas are called Fish so Goombario apparently hates his own species. 12:02 And most likely a reference to Goombas in underground levels from Super Mario Bros.! 12:53 Not only there, but also elsewhere in this and later Paper Mario games Fuzzies are just mischievous creatures. 15:05 Even more so since you picked that heart up, with badges like Close Call equipped 6 HP is paradoxically more dangerous than being in Danger. 17:45 When Emile's legendary luck becomes a curse.

You should get Goombario to tattle, in the sewers. He has some interesting dialogue about how gross it is. Also in the desert or volcano, he comments on how hot and uncomfortable he is. I would have liked it if Chuggaaconroy mentions that.

One thing Emile hasn't covered yet: you can visually tell if your Power Bounce chain was ended by a forced cap or not. If Mario simply falls off the enemy and runs back to his side of the field, that's a missed input and the chain ending was your error. If Mario *vaults* off the enemy and soars all the way back to his side of the field before landing, you got the input correctly but were forced off by the bounce cap. So now you can tell whether to be mad at yourself or the game that the enemy survived with 1HP.

That is... a title. Seems we're going to be doing a lot of optional stuff today. Should have figured considering how much the game throws at you here. Just wasn't expecting it all at once. In the title. That Blooper fight was a trainwreck in the best possible way. Nothing went right, did it. On the topic of level-ups, am I the one who doesn't really get the point of the HP and PP up badges? You're basically just trading level ups, and I think Emile's had them on almost the entire time since he got them... which limits how many actually helpful badges he has equiped. At this moment, having gone for an HP and PP level up each would have gotten him to this exact same point. Maybe that's just me, though, as I am one of those people that levels up all three equally. I just prefer it that way. Ah, but to each his own, I guess. I played Jump attack once so far. Did the five block option. Got about 150 coins on my first try. I think that's a decent start. I'm reminded that there's a trophy of the lil'-oinks in Smash 4 for no discernable reason. It's... random. Also, I hatched one. It was gold. My luck that day was... weird.

21:09 Oh now this keep getting interesting. You got pretty lucky to find more secrets by smashing that tree with your Hammer or using Bombette to blow stuff up on the ground to access a secret pipe to a hidden room, which you'd can played mini games using all that money you'd go wasting. I don't remember there be a secret pipe to the hidden room which kind a felt a little bit tricky for some players that could solved that problem out. That something I wouldn't do if I done all my walkthroughs of these.

I’ve always loved how much content opens up in the main hubs of both PM64 and TTYD post-chapter 1. I was never even aware of the gambling mini game until somewhat recently, and even in TTYD I almost never messed with the Pianta Parlor mini games ever. Even though these games are fairly linear they still respect you enough to explore in these intermission periods and I love it

On the Bub-ulb vs Bulb-ulb thing I get you. For over a decade as a kid I thought "Bob-omb" was "Bomb-omb" to the point that I was mad at the Super Mario Bros movie (1993, Bob Hoskins) for a character saying "It's a Bob-omb!" Granted that movie had tons of legitimate faults, but it definitely got the name of the wind up explosive correct.
@DarkBowser642 жыл бұрын
A piece of info that I didn't realize until sorta recently is that the Gloombas are actually a stealthy reference to the fact that the Goombas in the first Super Mario Bros. were consistently a different color when underground, even in the All-Stars version where there were less color limitations. I didn't catch it as a kid but it makes perfect sense why they're a completely different color! Another piece of trivia is that the Thunder Rage item has a Japanese name that matches up exactly with the Japanese name of Mallow's special attack, "Shocker", from Super Mario RPG. There are a surprisingly high amount of these Mario RPG naming scheme references in the Japanese version of Paper Mario 64 if you happen to play both and compare, which many who play the English version wouldn't be able to catch because they changed the names in localization. Of course, it's kind of understandable in some cases because the items have visual indications that couldn't have been kept if they made them match. For example, "Mid Mushroom" in RPG is the same name as the "Super Shroom" item in PM64's Japanese version, and "Max Mushroom" is the same as "Ultra Shroom" as well, if I recall, but since the items visually have "S" and "U" on them, they couldn't go with the Mario RPG naming scheme. Just something interesting to note.

Tayce T. is amazing. Especially at this stage in the game where you can get Hot Shrooms, which at this point is the best HP healing item to get. The Playroom is great for getting a ton of money. The Silver Card one, my strategy just consists of singling out 2 blocks to NOT hit, and just go from there. Effective? Not at all because I'm playing to the Law of Averages. Tbf, I _did_ get 950 coins out of the Nine-Block option... but that was on the 42nd attempt (I had 124 coins... had 64 left after 3 resets). There is a considerably better option... but that isn't until much later. As for Li'l-Oinks, it is essentially a Gatcha system to get better items... and it is probably the *only* other way to get Ultra Shrooms once all 5 locations for that item have been discovered because, unfortunately, Ultra Shrooms are VERY limited in quantity in this game with no other means to replenish them outside of this. Jammin' Jellies fall under this too, but to a *slightly* lesser extent as I'll talk about them later. I put up with the system here because when I'm doing so, I've got *a lot* of coins to burn (all 999 of them). Other than that, I got another Level-Up and I put my Level Bonus into FP. Post-Edit: I'm going to also point out something that I semi-missed... this is *also* the only other place you can do to get more Repel Gels, as *those are also otherwise in limited supply* outside of the Li'l Oink Gatcha System. Now, if you'll excuse me... I have a Gatcha system to abuse.

*_[Tim belch intensifies]_* Also, I reckon that Tayce T is responsible for all those cooks in Bug Fables. Seriously, cooking in that game is SO damn handy. If you do Crisbee's quest in Defiant Root, you unlock what is probably the best TP-restoring item in the whole game, and by god that's what I stuffed my inventory with. Yet even with all the restoration in Bugaria, the final battle was still a knife's edge, where both Vi and the final boss were 1HP away from death, and I was all out of items. In the end, I was able to land that final blow, and that victory levelled up the party. To this day, I don't think I've won a final boss battle that was THAT close. If Chugga had witnessed it, he would have blown out my eardrums.

So, the Hot Shroom. This is something I didn't know until I saw Masae Anela's Let's Play. The buying price of a Volt Shroom in Toad Town is 10 coins. The selling price of a Hot Shroom in any shop is 15 coins. Meaning you can buy a Volt Shroom in Toad Town, turn into into a Hot Shroom, sell it for a profit, and keep doing this. Tricks like these are usually referred to as Cotton Robe Tricks, named after the Cotton Robe from Final Fantasy 9, where the selling price of a Cotton Robe was greater than the buying price of its two components and the synthesis fee combined, which led to a lot of players sything and then selling Cotton Robes en masse for an early profit. If you were paying attention, you might've noticed I said the buying price of a Volt Shroom *in Toad Town* and the selling price *in any shop*. That's because the buying and selling prices of items in Paper Mario vary from shop to shop. You may have noticed it earlier in Koopa Village, where Mushrooms and Fire Flowers were cheaper there than in the first shop in Toad Town. In other words, the game has buying items cheap in one place and selling them for a profit elsewhere as an intended mechanic. The only downside is that, 1. it's only spelled out to you once by Russ. T, and 2. you can't get the most out of this mechanic for quite a while. On a side note, the nutty cake sprite looks delicious.
