My borrowed Paperface 50 also features the Tempo di Roma panel, a clever classic sequencer featuring two 4-step sequencers, each with three rows of CV values (roughly equal to notes), a gate row when a stage is reached, and stage selectors that double as keys and length controls.
It also has an 8 step gate sequencer, two bidirectional temporary sequential switches and one bidirectional alternating switch. Finally it features a logic circuit that can output the Min or Max of two CV values (Peak and Through).
It may be a powerful sequencer for 1970's standards, but it's really classic and vintage in the digital 21st century. However, it's also responsible for that classic vibe you will not find on modern sequencers where everything is perfect.

Limitations fuel creativity. Sounds like Eno profundity to me.

This was completely and totally delightful. There was just so much amazing going on from the start, I was so ready to hear where it was headed! Serge is unreal.

So did u make the plunge and buy it ? Borrowing this sort of shit is dangerous especially if u can KINDA afford it. Where if u buy it u will be strapped for cash but u still have the money to buy it *I think between euro and Buchla and Serge .. the different layout and workflow kinda affect the output .. same musician on each synth will have a different style to some degree

No I did not buy it. I offered Random*Source a tutorial series if I could borrow it and learn it. But then I dove into Serge euro, and cancelled the offer. R*S convinced me to give it a try to make me better understand euro. So I am super grateful I did it. However, I made firm decision a few years ago that I would not invest in 4U. So no 4U Buchla either. The niche makes it twice or three times as expensive as eurorack. I am super happy to be able to combine Serge euro with Buchla Tiptop and any module I feel that can add something. They're real Serge and Buchla too, and both are relatively affordable. Little sidedetail, I just uploaded this series and immediately started working on a MakeNoise Bruxa video. Which is cool because I don't have one and I'd have to wait for October. What I am trying to say is, my attention lingers all over the place and the Paperface would most likely join my Pulsar-23 which I probably use once a year. Not good, Gerald...

something im curious about... after playing with "modern serge" how do you feel about paperface era one?

@@kurisuchiinathecrocodile333 The Paperface 50 is an anniversary edition so all the tech is 21st century with stable VCO's and high build quality. I've seen demos of the really old ones and they don't track nor keep pitch. So I would never go for a real 'era one' :). Compared to eurorack you could build a big eurocase with a lower budget (as I did). Comparing a Paperface 50 set (Helios, Paris, Roma and the TKB) with a modern Mantra+Tantra you'd get four 'old school' panels for the price of two modern ones. You'd be missing the modern GTO/GTS, but you'd get a lot more synth and a great feel of nostalgia. I hope this helps.

@@CinematicLaboratory I mean... even though I havent got chance to experience any Serge first hands yet (but hope very much haha), for some reason it was STS era serge I found out about first by watching videos and reading erges (that old site with techniques and tips), so later when I learnt about "paperface" I had mixed feelings, like it has unique sound to it, but it also seems to be less "advanced" module wise (but on the other hand it still has "essentials" like SSG and DUSG is basically EG + Positive&Negative Slew set, right?). And, perhaps what matters the most, I've heard amazing music from all Serge variations.... Im glad that Random * Source, Loudest Warning and others keep the flame alive.
