I’ve done several refoaming jobs on JBL, Pioneer, ADS etc. Always used the 9 volt battery method. Great video as always.

Nice work! I've ordered some repair kits for several speakers that need re-foaming. I had just kept pushing them to the back. Have some Pioneer and a couple of 60 year old 12" Magnavox speakers that need re-foaming. Love the videos, Dave. Thank you.

Do tell where you got foams for 5 bucks. I have a V3 set that need some love.
@brunolagace11353 жыл бұрын
I did a few of those. The most expensive one was a JBL I replace the spider the cone and the foam. I did a few Altecs and one Paradigm Sub. You need to take your time and clean everything well went your are not use to it. Those little Atoms do sound great I think they have a Vifa tweeter in them. The woofer was made by Paradigm. The older Paradigm were the best I still have a pair of Paradigm model 9SE MK3 that I use every day and a pair of Atom in my surround system.

I guess the positioning of the spider is more critical for proper gapping. If the spider doesn’t need replacing then this method of cantering works well. Otherwise shims are needed to properly space the voicecoil. This is a great tip by the way..
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
Shims only needed if spider is removed such as for a voice coil rewind. If the voice coil is shot i would be trashing the driver myself.
@larryh80723 жыл бұрын
I would agree if the drivers are not that expensive. It may be cost effective to recone some high end drivers though. Some guitar amp speakers can cost quite a bit for the drivers.

Hi Dave ! Great video ! Great set of speakers ! Now, you can drown out the sound of your neighbors lawnmower when he's out mowing ! Lol 😆 !
@djijspeakerguy46283 жыл бұрын
By the way, the glue that was originally holding the driver down on these was only there from when the front baffle was attached to the sides of the box. In those days, they seemed to have assembled the box after installing the drivers. The v2 through v4 were assembled differently and did not have that glue around the border, only on the corners of the box.

Good refoaming! I suspect your class D amps has so much RF on the outputs that it interfers with tne clock monitor

Shouldn't be rf on the output. That's the job of the lpf to cancel out the switching signal.

Foam centers itself. Remainder of black material on frame should have been removed first, and replaced afterwards, but result was acceptable.
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
Black material on frame was not removed as that would lower the foam mounting point and the original was glued to the cardboard. The idea is to not change the angle and have the foam pulling the cone down.

@ИванИванов-л1ф8э2 жыл бұрын
don't repeat, this is the worst job one can do. 1, poured a lot of glue. which increases the weight of the diffuser. which affects the characteristics of the speaker. 2. did not center the diffuser, for this it was necessary to peel off the protective cap in the center and insert a thin material into the gap, otherwise it will be skewed and the wire winding on the diffuser will rub against the core of the magnet. 3 did not clean the basket from the old suspension.
@12voltvids2 жыл бұрын
Running the speaker on 50hz oscillator centers the cone. The glue used was special speaker cement which does not add to the weight. The speaker sound fantastic. I use them every day on my bedroom system. Have done many speakers this way. The only time you need to shim the voice coil is if you open the spider. That is what centers the voice coil. Pumping the speaker at 50 hz will center the cone on the surround as the glue sets up.
@zhrob1 Жыл бұрын
@@12voltvids Is there any other way someone like myself could centre it without having the 50 Hz tools...? I was hoping to fix my an old 3 way Sanyo speaker.

@jeffclark52063 жыл бұрын
So many downvotes already. I can only assume its because you didn't center the foam, that triggered my OCD lol.
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
The foam is centered. That is the reason for the 50hz tone. It centers up the foam with the cone before the cement sets. You can be off a fair bit and once the speaker is fired up the vibrating will center everything. At least that is what the speaker tech from PSB, at the seminar i attended 30 years ago was telling us. That's why you fire them up before the glue sets too much.

@@12voltvids I was referring to the outer foam that attaches to the frame not the cone portion. In the video there is a good gap on one side but no gap on the other. In my mind it would make the foam slightly distorted.
