Also a mixing tip ... mix parts A and B in a cup and then pour the mixed material into your paint tray. This is the same thing with epoxy resin - it is virtually impossible to mix the sides of the container well so by pouring from a mixing container into your paint tray you don't end up with un-mixed epoxy on the sides. The epoxy that does not get fully mixed can sometimes never cure and will make a sticky awful mess. So to recap - mix parts A&B and alcohol in a mixing container then pour those contents into your final container used for application.

Everyone, save your time, energy and money. I did the stock tank pool thing a year ago. I sanded the heck out of it and had a great bite in the steel, used vinegar, SEM self etching primer and spend a lot of $ on Pond Shield. It lasted one summer and that’s it. Came out several weeks ago to uncover the pool and fill it up….nope! The epoxy had bubbled and peeled from 90% of the tank. Now I’m scraping the rest off of it and trying to figure out what to do next if anything at all. It was amazing while it lasted but not worth it imo. Good luck everyone!

All I do is mix the WHOLE batch, pour it all in and use my roller to to spread it around evenly. Done in 10 minutes. It's a LOT easier to do it that way too and it spreads very well, with less work having to redip your roller/brush.

@KRTube755 ай бұрын
I made the same mistake. I heated the epoxy up a little to help eliminate bubbles but I heated it up a little more than I usually do and I mixed 1 gallon total. Within 5 minutes it was smoking and boiling and the plastic bucket was melting. Dumped a gallon of water on it to help cool it down. 3 hours later, it was still almost too hot to touch.

There are a few essential steps / tips that I would like to add for our new Epoxy / Tank Pool coating users : 1. I DO NOT advise to execute this project for esthetic purposes. Only if it is needed (for rusted pool for example) . It is not an easy project. Applying coat is not the same as painting walls. The relatively small size of the pool may be misleading . It is still a lot of effort. I am sure everyone here can agree that the project may take a couple of days. 2. Paint roller DOES NOT do well with the Epoxy. It is a heavily coated material and the brush is just too soft. The coat will stay on the brush and will damage it. Naturally the coat application won't be even. I suggest to use a heavy wide brush 3. Mixing - 2 : 1 ration is ok. However I would suggest to mix 2.5 (paint) : 1 (coat) to achieve a thicker color. The standard Epoxy boxy shipped from Amazon 48 fl oz , will allow the ratio. Keep in mind that for a Stock Tank Pool of a size of 8 foot , you will need (At LEAST!!!) 4 packages of paint (In the video it may seem that 1 package is enough? very unlikely) 4. I recommend to allow the paint to dry completely after each application . There is a difference with how the thickness of the paint may look over time. It is different from when it was first applied. 5. Apply the paint from the top layers , painting around the pool and to the bottom , when the bottom part of the pool is painted last. When the paint is applied , it may leak / drip with the gravity (which is a good thing - it makes the paint thicker on the lower levels). For heavy leaking , I suggest to keep wiping it with a towel. 6. I can't stress this enough . One container is hardly enough. The paint is faded when applying 1 or 2 layers. You will need at least 4 packages of paint. 7. It's a "messy" project and I would advise to do the project and the mixing outdoors. This paint may not come off from the basement floor . Use gloves! 8. The mixing can be done in the painting tray , to reduce waste. I would like to say thanks for the video. It helped me to kick off my project. Thank you!

Were using the same tank & epoxy, but were hesitant to add the chlorine to the water. Did yours hold up to the chlorine??
@gerrymatheson4020 Жыл бұрын
Which part is the hardener, part A or part B? Add just a tad less hardener and it will take longer to harden giving you more work time.
@ParagonRidgeRanch Жыл бұрын
The clear one. I ended up adding alcohol to it on the second round;) that video should post in 6 minutes;)
@bigmikesvinyl8514 Жыл бұрын
Be careful -- it is really not a good idea to mess with the ratios in any epoxy - you can end up with a sticky gooey mess that never completely cures ( it is a chemical process that was engineered for a certain ratio ). For instance - too much hardener can actually make it take longer to cure which is the opposite of what you would think. Small batches are the key - as well as following manufacturer recommendations about working times etc. This manufacturer recommends the IPA for thinning it out - not sure if the IPA extends the working time or not.

I don’t wanna just criticize, but this paint job won’t last long at all. Y’all should have sand blasted off that heavy rust first. Unless I missed a part where you said you couldn’t care less how long it lasts. I wish y’all well, but you can NEVER paint over rust unless the product specifically says to paint over rust. 🤷🏻
