PARAPLEGIC CLIMBS STAIRS, Wheelchair to Stair Transfer and Fail

Craig shows you how to transfer to and from the wheelchair and stairs and then how to climb up and down stairs as a paraplegic. Being able to get up and down stairs is a very useful skill to have as a paraplegic as it gives you so many more options of where you can go / stay. Because Craig is able to transfer up and down stairs, it means that we are not just limited to wheelchair accessible properties with ramps / lifts and we've been able to live and stay in many places that would otherwise be inaccessible to us. We demonstrate independent and assisted variants of how you can get up and down stairs. As well as how to avoid sliding back down stairs.

It is very good. I did like you when I was younger. Now I have a stairlift. And two armchairs: one at the top and one at the bottom

I do normally use a stairlift in this house and have a chair on each end too ;) but it's a very good skill to have, I use it a lot when we are not at home

I use a wheelchair due to a genetic condition that affects all my joints (except my elbows for some reason), and I just don't seem to have the arm strength for this. I've been trying to figure out a strategy for stairs because my dad just bought a house where the bathroom is on the second floor, but all my joints dislocate pretty easily, so I have to be careful.

ive been in my house since i was 2 so i'm just used to shuffling upstairs, it helps that i do have some movement, specially in my right leg, so i can push a little bit, but mostly i'm just used to it as its how ive always done it for a long time. i didnt at first when i was a little kid, i used to crawl up on my hands and knees but one day i had an 'oh s**t im stuck' moment, felt like i was going to fall so since then ive shuffled.

Ugh when i do this my spasms kick in bad and my legs kick out straight and my heel gets caught on each step..the more and more i struggle the more my spasms kick in not to mention losing your pants 😆

I do get alot of spasms doing this but I find they eventually stop if I wait for long enough! It's very annoying! I lose my trousers quite alot on the way up but we just laugh about it and carry on 😅

What happens when you need the wheelchair to get into upstairs

I normally leave an old wheelchair at the top of the stairs which I then transfer into, or I have to ask someone to carry the wheelchair up for me after I've finished my transfer 😀

i just shuffle around when i'm upstairs, its only from the bedroom to bathroom anyway. ive lived in my house since i was 2 so a long time (longer than id like!) so i'm just used to doing it that way.
