There is no reason to doubt this defendant's regret, empathy, or deep sorrow... perhaps even remorse. But he ascribes great weight to his professionalism, protocols, and training. He speaks of thorough and correct information passed to him. Nonetheless, how does anyone defend being totally ignorant of aspirated vomit? Did they not remove the ski mask/hood? Did he estimate body weight as exceeding 200 pounds without looking at the skin beneath the jacket? Did he accept patrolmen's assumption that the patient was under the influence of some mood-altering substance without flashlighting the pupils for reactivity? What about pulse or simple blood pressure? (Now as simple as a wrist cuff...) Did they check for clear airway? We teach scout children these simple steps. No... I don't see how any tears, sniffling, or protestations of professional dedication can excuse gross negligence of simple principles of practice, and DEADLY administration of a toxic overdose. I grieve with him, but he is dangerous in the community. May he learn more responsibility with his incarceration.

I'm sorry for the death of Elijah. The wrong person here is being charged. The police need to be investigated. There are a few more video's out there, and show a little more information. When he arrived at this scene, it was already hyped up. Everyone was excited, and not one person stood back, and calmed the situation down.

HE administered that fatal dose. HE is ultimately responsible. He sshould have done a better assessment before giving that drug. If he didn't know Elijah's medical history let alone couldn't assess his approximate weight, Never ever give that drug.

@@lefthandedRN Your in the medical field correct? Than you should know that any EMT or Paramedic can not just give out drugs like candy, I know in my state, they are constant contact with an ER Physician. The only way EMS knows any ones medical background is if family is on sight. If there is a video out there showing a family member on sight, than I"ll look at it. Everyone always wants to blame the police, and EMS. Here is what's going to happen, one of these day's some one is going to call 911, and no on is going to come to the door. There is a shortage of police, and now there will be a shortage of EMS!

His question: what could have been done different? As medics, not listening to bad and corrupted police officers, when you yourself know that they are not doctors or are not trained in the medical field... that would have made a difference between a life and death situation and at the same time you didn't have any remorse or concerns about Elijah McClain because if you did? You would have assessed the situation or condition of Elijah McClain? But instead you reacted to what you was told -:he had the strength of 100 men, a skinny boy, you take no blood pressure, heart rate? You did nothing but reacted - therefore your remorse goes out the window....he was just another black N - word to you and your assistant - so the value of his life meant nothing to you but you didn't count on getting caught... you disregarded your training and listened to the police that have no training.... ain't no sense of crying now....

No it is NOT. The problem was an overdose being improperly administered. Chemical restraint should not be in the preview of a paramedic. I was instrumental in the training of pre-hospital care by paramedics in the 1980's, there has been more and more creep in what procedures and medications they are allowed to perform in the field with little over site. Even in the hospital setting, these procedures are done by professional staff with a minimum of a 4 to 6 years. Paramedic training typically requires less than 2 years, and they do not perform many of these procedures on a frequent basis.

I’m sorry I’m just gonna bring this up but when doctors kill somebody and of course it’s always an accident. Do they go to jail? No they don’t first responders are the first ones that have to assess the patient and help that patient stay alive until they get to the hospital so this guys getting charged because he gave a child too much ketamine, boy I thought maybe he shot the kid because that’s what it sounds like with all these comments that he did something so terribly wrong to a child like raping him beating him up, shooting him stabbing him but no, nobody thinks about things outside of the box that’s a problem in this country do you really think he wanted that child to die? No it could happen to anyone of us at any time sir I hope you do your time fast and you can get out and somehow keep taking care of the community in anyway that you can. I’m sorry this happened to youto the family I am so sorry this happened to your son I couldn’t imagine but this man was just trying to save your child’s life. I’m sure I’ll get so many negative comments bring them on.

The reason doctors typically don't go to jail if a patient dies due to an error is malpractice insurance. They typically will still go to jail if they're found to have murdered someone, in the line of duty or otherwise. First-response medics like the defendant here enjoy the exact same insurance, and the court still finds it appropriate to send him to jail; even if you're ignorant to the details of his crime, that should give you an idea of how serious a crime it is.

Sadly, most of the time.. Absolutely not! The most that happens, if you have the money to hire a private attorney , is that a malpractice suit can be brought against the doctors insurance. A doctor literally refused to help my father while he was in the hospital, and watched as he died. We even had the charge nurse tell us that she would be glad to testify us, but that would have required that that we had the money to hire the lawyer.
@jonmorgan6812
@jonmorgan6812 3 ай бұрын
They typically do if malpractice insurance isn't enough to make up for their crime; like an out-an-out homicide. First-response medics like the defendant here get the exact same coverage, and yet he's going to prison for the homicide he committed 🤔
