I remember how my dad came to me with such joy in his eyes. "I got you an amazing present" He held the game behind his back and handed it to me and when I saw that T rex on the CD case I was in love. Considering I was 5 years old my first round on our windows xp stoneage computer was naturally awful and I had all my workers die trying to fight an apatosaurus... I still loved it and I have the game today and it still runs!

Fun fact: I have a German box set of this game and there are some interesting review quotes on it. A lot of them focus on the army controller, which some reviewers expected to be the next big thing in RTS games. Which But the most interesting quote is the following: "Die ParaWorld-Macher haben verstanden, welche Zutaten ein hervorragender eSports-Titel benötigt" - "The creators of ParaWorld have understood what ingredients you need for an excellent eSports-title" This obviously didn't come true, so who was the mysterious person who imagined a future of dinosaur eSports back in 2006? None other than Jan-Pilipp Reining, one of the founders of the ESL (yes that one) Imagine if he were right...

I actually love how cheesy the campaign is. And about the mission you can't get past: -play as dragon clan, and before you trigger the two railguns, spam build the rocket pteranodons on every part of the map, so once the railguns fire, you just point and watch.
@ADTillion
@ADTillion 4 жыл бұрын
Uncle Price It’s also possible to use ninjas to unlock the gates leading to the Railguns and then sacrifice them. But Since the Railguns activate at a certain threshold, you can actually delay it while you fight your way across the bases. Building a new base right at the foot really helps as you can just replace the ones that may die going up the hill. Dustriders are great since their regular infantry can build, and your brachs can create more units. When I replayed it in adulthood, I was able to beat it on hard difficulty in one go. I usually spam catamarans to destroy all coastline fortifications, then delete those and use brach catapults to devastate the rest of the buildings including the Railguns, with hardly any casualties. Of course, since I’m hardcore about this game, I’ve beaten the final missions with every faction, so have different tactics each time. Dustriders still remain my favourite, though Dragon Clan beats everyone at range. A good strategy for most maps with waterways is to prioritize building a naval fleet and destroying everything they can target with range. This stops the enemy from being able to launch further invasions, so then you can start building bases at where you cleared them out instead of having to build and transport from your main base. One of the worst missions though can be the Valhalla one. Since if you don’t build up in time just right, they sometimes send in Titans to completely obliterate you. Taslow towers and trade caravans are your friends.
@himashwitharana3263
@himashwitharana3263 4 жыл бұрын
My go-to was the dustriders. Build a team of Ankylo Catapults that launch Velociraptor ammo, get them to target a spot near the entrance of your base and viola! An army of free bodyguards to defend your base while you focus your attention on the rest of the base!

This game is such a MASTERPIECE! It will always have a special place in my heart. ❤ Everything was so greatly put together! The world, story, unique unit ideas and gameplay mechanics as You mentioned. Even the campaign - crazy, but it tried so badly to connect all of the ideas devs had, that it worked for me somehow! It was just everything You could put in an adventure/action story. 😎 The overall art style is what makes me come back and adore it to this day. 🎨 The graphics, if You treat the animations with a grain of salt, hold up well enough. The music though is an unforgettable experience worth recommendation. 🎵 I hope, that one day it will finally shine, because it deserves it despite the problems You and the community noticed. Sorry for my English but it's really emotional for me! Thank You so much for this video! Greetings!

I found a member of the dev team on KZbin a couple years ago and asked if they'd ever consider bringing Paraworld to Steam as was done with Impossible Creatures, just to bring the game back from the dead. Unfortunately, the development studio didn't retain rights to the game after shutting down, and the publisher obviously has no intention of doing anything with it and he said it would probably not be worth the trouble trying to get the rights turned back over to him or someone else from the team. Sad times. :c

You should have asked if they were willing to talk to GOG about it, GOG are experts in tracking down the rights to old games.
@valentinmitterbauer4196
@valentinmitterbauer4196 4 ай бұрын
I always assumed the rights ended up at Ubisoft. SEK developed the game for Sunflowers, a publisher that also released the Anno games. Yes, THE Anno games, which have been going strong to this day, so ofc Ubisoft gobbled the smaller publisher Sunflowers for that sweet Anno-revenue, developing new games of the series. So, if the rights for Paraworld were held by Sunflowers and Sunflowers got bought by Ubioft, they technically also recieved the rights for Paraworld?

Ten years ago my friend was bored of playing Yu-Gi-Oh and he said "how about we play a ttrpg" "I don't know any ttrpg well enough" i responded, he said "I am playing this paraworld game that put different themed human society in a world with dinosaurs, how about we start with that and fill the blanks as we go", i said "deal" Ten years later we still play this game with the gang, the rules are a bloated mess only i and my exel sheet can understan, the world building is wack and only my gm friend as the faintest idea of what is or isn't possible, and we still use the paraworld ost in most of the sessions. Glory to this game i have never actually played and yet had such an impact on my life

Though I never completed it either and had to watch a let’s play to see the final few endings. Still can’t believe it wasn’t successful, especially not with that front cover! And I do admire their army manager system, despite its flaws. Made organising my forces very easy and I’m sad more games didn’t have a similar system. Shame. This will always have a place in my heart

And while I had some technical issues with it at the time, I LOVED it and played it over and over again. Besides the amazing graphics, creative faction designs, and of course dinosaurs, the music stayed with me years after I stopped playing. My favourite tribe was the Dustriders because of their wide range of dinosaur cavalry (especially the T. rex Titan) and their sweet theme music.

Aside from the massive cleavage that every female character seems to possess, did you just do a bad job of showing the casual misogyny in the game or am I the only one who found the voice lines not at all misogynistic? There is something about the 90s and early 2000s strategy games that makes it so that any other modern strategy game cannot compete with. Black & White, Paraworld, Age of Empires, Emperor Battle for Dune, Dawn of War (not the third installation), I do not think we will ever see the likes of these again.

I remember playing this game as a child at my friends place a lot. Somehow a majority of the games I played as a child were german developed and despite being german myself, I never knew until I was an adult and most of the studios were defunct. Next to the other weird, tiny budget RTS games we played, paraworld seemed polished and sane. In one of the games there was a faction with swimming cities on the back of sea turtles, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it was called. Paraworld's name I had also forgotton and only rediscovered through this video. If you had told me that my memories of a weird rts with dinosaurs and a few modern day people was my brain playing a trick on me I would have believed you. Thanks for giving me back a part of my childhood! Btw, is there a similar thing you folks have over in Britain regarding finding out later in life that there was something amazing in your childhood that you just assumed was american but was actually local, but now it's dead and gone? That's a pretty weird version of sadness...

Oh man, that brings me back. I used to study to get into game development, and as part of that, we actually had people in our class selected to betatest this game under NDA and everything, and they were really praising this developer and all. Which it was a bit embarrassing when iirc they sold 10.000 units and just got shut down almost immediately after, oops. I did think it was a cool idea for a game though, shame nobody wanted it back then.

Your criticism of the women in the game is incredibly dishonest. Women in the game have a huge variety of outfits just like the men do. Focusing on the amazon spearwoman as an example of women being scantaly clad would only be done by someone who's never actually played the game. The amazon archers wear burqas, the norsemen spearwomen and the dragon archers are all covered from head to toe with armour. At the same time, half the men in the game are topless or wearing equally little clothing depending on their class or climate. Almost all amazonian men are topless, norse berserkers are topless. The summos are wearing only underwear. Are summos sexualized in this game? And ada didn't help them because she fell in love with cole. She helped them because she thought they were the only hope in actually saving the world and constantly rejected cole's advances. As for the pregnancy joke, I don't get what point you're trying to raise here. Did you just want them unironically wank the "strong waman" meme?

What I remember most fondly about this game is the voice acting. Disregarding it's oddly all star cast (Richard Epcar, Steve Blum, Crispin Freeman, Doug Stone, etc.), the basic units have such unique and memorable voices that I can never forget. Each tribe has its own flavor with how the units speak and how they sound, its something that probably awakened my current love for voicework and voice acting. This is another thing that I believe set ParaWorld apart from other RTS games. Since the pool of units is more concise and unique, each unit is incredibly memorable. No unit is objectively superior to another in terms of purpose, so each unit is useful (infantry more or less non-withstanding). Either that, or I just like how the Rocket Boat sounds. Also, the trick to beat New World Order is to not capture the pump stations right away. Get rid of the towers and gates to each of them, then position half of your army at one railgun and the other half at the other. Have a scout capture one of them, then just wail on the railguns. This is definitely one of those stages where having 3 titans is a big help.

A small hint beforehand, the music you put to the intro in the video's beginning is a bit too loud, it makes it hard to hear what you're saying at times. Just something to consider for future videos ;-) I agree with point 8, but have my own counterpoint to that: Teslov turrets. Teslov turrets are love, Teslov turrets are life. Or death and destruction for your enemies, depending on your point of view. I vividly remember gnawing my teeth out on the last mission as well, until I started abusing Teslov turrets as stationary offensive artillery. That way I managed to slowly, but certainly Teslov-turtle my way up the fortress map. Maybe that was hacky, but it was so very satisfying :D My biggest issue with ParaWorld nowadays is the consistently inconsistent power level of the AI. You honestly never know how well an AI will do in skirmish even though all the parameters are the same. It may roflstomp the whole map or braindeadly idle around in a minimalistic campfire-base. Not being able to predict whether a game will be exceedingly boring and unchallenging or nervewrackingly tight and tense is what really keeps me from starting it up again. It's worth noting though that this may be the mods' fault, I just haven't tested it without them because I know I'd miss their content ;-9

I knew I was teetering on the edge with the music in the opening as I wanted it loud to keep momentum up. Guess I went slightly too far - I knew what I was saying even when muffled and so couldn't be objective about it. Thanks for the info. I love those crazy towers too (as you can see in a lot of the footage) but I just always end up running out of stone. I guess I could pull down the towers on my home island to get some back, but even then, since you're working to a time limit with the whole countdown to detonation thing, it sounds like a struggle. Maybe I'll use that approach next time.

Oh wow, I remember playing the *demo* of this game. Never got the full thing, but there were some really long story cutscenes and decent chunk of campaign missions. I definitely wanted it, but with Battle for Middle Earth 2, Medieval II Total War, Titan Quest... there were a lot of games I wanted that year, and the year after. So memory of the demo fell out of my mind aside from a vague recollection of having a limited number of units per power level (which did occupy one brain cell - which was frantically flashing the moment I saw this video). Also, Mark Hamill turning up in games is something I just expect now. I have fond memories of the rebooted Spyro trilogy where Elijah Wood faces off against Mark Hamill in a grand final battle to save the world.

First off congrats on being one of the rare people to actually ever make a video on this game, when i feel like theres people that should have talked about this just based on the premise a Dinosaur RTS. It writes itself. This game is one of those thats just very special to me and it always saddend me that i just dont see it mentioned much even among niche rts circles. 2nd i always adored the setup for the whole thing, ever since i got a poster for this game from a PC magazine i had it on my wall ( should find it again) I always loved the designs of everything in this setting, well except maybe the norse faction but even they had stuff i found extremly cool thirdly. While i like the basic idea behind haveing limited units but i could never get behind the idea of haveing infantry units take up those slots (i would have prefferd them being much squishier, cheaper and not takeing up slots. Fourthly. I really like to think this is going to be one of those games thats going to be around for quite a while in memory, not like mainstream but people will always remember something as simple as '' THAT DINOSAUR RTS '' and sure theres maybe a few more that fit it, but this one is THE ONE. Nr.5 The whole female depiction in the game, its part of pulp which the game partially draws on, i understand the basic sentiment behind that section but while you can critize this stuff its something thats passed and holding it against the game , especially given the genre of the fiction its going for i feel is a bit much.

Try using dragon clan in that specific level.I remember I used those smoke bombers to hide my army of tanks and seizmos.I remember my whole level 1 slot was filled with those bombers,and the SEAS cannons were unable to locate my army on their land.I do not remember all the tricks how I beat that part :D It was pretty long ago.But I know dragon clan was the most effective against them.My most difficult level was the level before this.When you had to release Ada from the jail.I found it the most difficult level,because I didnt had time to expand or to build defenses properly in order to protect myself,because seas armies were constantly raping my ass with Big robots,like the ones with level 4 sloths.Yeah,those were violent asf.

You were somewhat underselling those graphics in my opinion. Whoever did the scenery composition and the graphical lead did an insanly great job. To this day, ive never again felt so much like "Man I wanna walk throgh these forests/ on that beach etc." Im gonna go so far as to say that among the strategy game genre, this game, along side with Warcraft III, presents the pinnacle of environmental design, which gets relegated to tertierary concern where it doesn´t directly effect gameplay :-/

Finally got to playing it. I'm having so much fun, and it was mentally stimulating to plan out my strategies in battles. It wasn't like in Warcraft 3 where I just spammed certain units until they overwhelmed the enemy with their numbers, which could get old really fast.

Of course I remember Paraworld! It's the only game I consider an evolutionary equal to Total Annihilation, RA2, Tiberian Sun, and Generals: Zero Hour in the RTS genre. For the FPS genre, the masterpieces would have to be HAWKEN and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. For Rhythm, it'd have to be Osu!. For Racing, it'd be NFSU2. For 3rd-Person Action, it'd have to be [PROTOTYPE] and Ty The Tasmanian Tiger 1 & 2. I am really glad that I get similar feelings to playing Paraworld when I play Iron Harvest (Beta released in August 2020) despite it being a fully steampunk-esque game with a really small pool of units and structures (currently). Edit: Eyy, Thrive looks pretty good! Edit 2: I still haven't played Sup Com very much, gonna do that to see how they expand upon the TA formula.

Hi, You make me return back a few years ago !! Good Job ;) !! I was like you thinking about this game ... "Was my youngmenhood a lie ?" Finaly , I think not, by the year of his creation, the PC were not the machines we have now. It was not a 'first game' coz where came out of big games at the same moment. So, in the same theme and with a sound band like it have, there is now ARK who releve the point !! Well, THX and good job.

I was able to find a cheap copy of Paraworld off of Ebay like....3 years ago or something? Still have it installed on my laptop. I love this game, and I wish more people played it. Heck, I wish it would even get the LOTR BFME2 treatment where someone literally stripped away the unnecessary parts and created a digital version of the game. Even if it's not backed by the publishers, even that could give Paraworld a boost in players.
