I'm European (Italian) and it's a nono if a man (or even a boy) doesn't pay for you. I've dated men (and when I was younger boys) from different cultures and they have always paid for me, they all got offended when I wanted to pay (even a simple coffee) and the same is for Italians. Just accept and thank gently because it's a nice thing they do for you. Whenever I felt embarrassed (now I don't feel like taht anymore) I used to think : it's like they're gifting me something, so, be nice and say " thank you" (you wouldn't refuse, and maybe be kinda aggressive or feel offended if someone gives you a gift, right?). Yes ladies, stay safe and whenever you feel that something is off, go away, safety first and never go on a stranger's car.

@@leiladebiasi4494 yeah it may be Actually I'm 25, not so old XD But everything changes so fast so... I see that there is a huge difference in comparison to when I was a teen. But I haven't met anyone my age or older who splits (no matter if it's a friend, a friend's husband or boyfriend or my own partner) . Of course, it all comes from personal experience😊 But I've noticed that splitting the bill is more diffused in northern Italy and in big cities (still a generalisation though). I find it nice when someone offers to pay and I don't see it from a point of view of being more or less open (I mean more "traditional" vs more "modern"). It's just a way of being polite, that should be forced upon 😊 The only openess we should have is being respectful with the other person's choice (in this case to offer or not). Then, if we don't like one way or the other of doing things, let's just stick to our own kind, so we can respect everyone's choices and views.

So if a man who, for exemple, invites me out for a coffee and doesn't even offer to pay for an espresso, is not my type😅 I apply this also to my friendships because its not a matter of money: any kind of relationship is a give and take, and each one of us should give and take. 25 year old Eastern European woman here. I prefer to split. I always offer to split. I am uncomfortable expecting and accepting another person to pay for me when I can pay for myself. It’s ok if other people choose to do that. It’s not my thing. Plus, how are you going to order a expensive meal and expect your partner to pay it? I wouldn’t feel right doing that. If I pay for myself, I can eat whatever I want. I also don’t accept gifts from strangers, especially expensive ones if it’s not my birthday, or a holiday. I accept gifts from my boyfriend and my family, but not too many. If my boyfriend spend too much money on gifts, I would be upset that he is not being considerate of his finances. That’s why seeing the situation as gifting doesn’t work for me.

This will give you a hint of what married life will be like with him because it will show you what he’s willing to spend your joint income on. What's wrong with women taking a lead in relationships? We are not living in 19th Century anymore. Women have education, careers, earn their own money, travel alone, can buy whatever things they can afford. Why cede control of yourself to a man? He can still be your lover/husband/partner without being the "master" in the relationship unless his ego is too fragile.

As an American male whose dated French women this is pretty accurate. French women are outgoing and confident in their own skin, they don't seem to be fazed by Western Taboos. First time being with a French woman: I was at a club, it was late (3-4am) she grabbed the drink out of my hand, sipped it and then offered to buy me the next one. Nothing sexier then a confident woman.
