Best review. The pro looks more filmic, and the air looks newer and more digital especially the noise patterns. Air 2s not having the adjustable aperture is a problem, looks choppy compared to the Pro. Also produces a more flat image out of camera which is nicer to grade. Pro still has the edge for me personally, but the new Air2s definitely checks a ton of boxes for a lot of people and the range is great. Fun times to be into drones.

So basically 2 years later and DJI still isn’t purposely making a better drone than the Mavic 2 Pro...4K 60 on a drone is somewhat pointless but nice to have but super punched in. The 5.4K is kinda pointless, but welcomed. And honestly the wider it gets the worse it gets. I love the punched in feel for professional work. So here we are in 2021, the Hasselblad camera still delivers a more customisable filmmakers choice, good on DJI for developing cheaper and better for new drone users. But Mavic 2 Pro owners are sitting with a 2 year old device that’s still a beast! Love the video Landon 👌

@ronineditor99203 жыл бұрын
@@iamapigeyedtraitorthatisin1319 Honestly, for me, I really dig the upside of the Air 2S. The camera is neck and neck... the slight edge 'might' go to the MP2 but is it worth spending another $500? I don't think so. Also, especially for beginners, the Air 2S is more of a "fun" drone. There are the pro modes but you the active tracking couldn't be easier. I know it's scary flying at first. I started with a Phantom 3 and it was super clunky, no obstacle avoidance, etc. The Mavic is super easy to fly and it's a great tool but not super fun. This Air 2S really is fun for me. For a quick crash course on photography, especially with drones; it's the same triangle; aperture, shutter, ISO. Aperture is the amount of light and depth of field. A "fast" F/stop is like a 1.4 on cameras and a big falloff from the subject and the background. A a slower is F/22, which is like a pinhole. The trade-off is... less light and the foreground and background compressed flatter. Some people prefer that for landscape photography. So start with what you want for your F/stop. Personally, I almost always shoot wide open. The goal is you want the least about of shutter as possible. If you're shooting 24 frames per second, you want 1/48 ideally... or 1/60. Shutter is how natural vs. strobey an image is. The most cinematic drone footage is smooth. Some people crank the shutter to, like, 1/1000 or whatever because it's too much light coming into the camera so they cheat it by too much shutter. Cranking the shutter makes it like a quick blink vs. staring with open eyes at an image. It's more about the motion you get from a slower shutter and 1/48 is like a 180 degree angle (the default for cinema cameras). Now... wide open aperture and 1/48 (or 1/60) shutter... that's a ton of light coming in, so how do you do that? NEUTRAL DENSITY is your friend. For me, I use a ND32+PL. That seems heavy but it rarely is. It's like sunglasses for your lens. Also, the PL is poloarizing... it makes the clouds more pronounced/defined, and takes glare off of water. With this on, then I look at my ISO. If it's around 100-400, depending on what the 'native' ISO is for the sensor. If it's too dark (with F/2.8 on this drone and 1/48), then I go down to 16ND and see how that feels. If it's too bright, then back to the 32 and then up the ISO to where the histogram is centered. Histogram you say? It's the way these drones are foolproof. First of all, personally, I shoot in log so I can color grade late (and this 10 bit color is fantastic!!!!). But, when you turn on your histogram, it's like a 'wave'. That's critical for exposure. With a LUT or baked-in color, you don't know what you're truly getting... with log, that's as real as these drones get. With all of that said... you can shoot on auto as well but, even if you do, I would still use ND32. I tried seeing what the Air 2S would do on Auto without ND and it was shockingly good... but it cranked the shutter and looked strobey. In the Flymore combo, they give you some but I'm hoping Polar Pro has Air 2S filters coming out... PP is amazing. I know it's a lot at once but hopefully it's a little helpful.

The fixed aperture is a deal-breaker in my opinion. Boosting your shutter speed on DJI always looks so bad; frames skip in premiere etc. So you'd essentially have to get the exposure completely correct with just one ND filter as boosting ISO also destroys DJI footage (even ISO 200 in my experience). Aperture is the best way to change exposure when lighting changes during flight.

After a year or two on the Mavic 2 Pro I would say the 'Hasselblad' on the lens is little more than branding. Yes, the colour, straight out of camera is good, but the lens itself is rubbish. It's soft and has terrible corners. Hasselblad's original lens designers would surely be hanging their heads in shame. That said, I only use the cropped mode and that solves most of the corner issues and is a good perspective for the work I do. Also, for all it's camera woes, the drone flys very well and maintains solid reception. I tested the Mavic 3 recently at work and the camera/sensor/lens is much improved especially for stills and the flying experience better again, but I can't believe DJI left out Tripod Mode. With out that, I don't think it would work for me. Cheers for this review.

Thank you for sharing your experience and expertise in the product. It took me awhile in deciding what model I should get. You have given me a confirmation that I made the right choice purchasing the AIR 2S. I just ordered mine the Fly More Combo and additional accessories. I"m so excited!!!

What does Fly More mean?

Great comparison and review. I have to think the DJ I would have to start thinking about some kind of waterproof system for the motors so you can fly in extreme downpour. Or think about making a drone that can dive right into a freaking Lake , get underwater footage and then fly right back out..🤔

Meh. Air 2S is an awesome drone for one who doesn't already have a Mavic 2 Pro (or maybe even the Air 2)... I love the footage I get out of the M2P and will continue to do so until DJI teases me with a 3rd gen of the Pro... thanks for the review!

Same. It's s cash grab in my mind. Owning the Mini 2, M2P and the FPV bad boy, this don't have enough goodies.
@Kovaction3 жыл бұрын
@@TasmanianTiger88 exactly! I have the FPV (really fun and different), M2Pro and even an M2Zoom... a full fleet with no need for this one.

The non adjustable aperture is a deal breaker. That is such a clutch feature, even with ND’s
@davidalanmedia3 жыл бұрын
For sure, flying middle of the day in summer you're getting waaaaaaay too fast of a shutter speed with no motion blur even with nd's. Deal breaker!
@mogyesz2253 жыл бұрын
David Robillard and it can be difficult to predict which one you’ll actually need for the current lighting, taking off then coming back just to change the ND for a stronger/weaker one is just inconvenient.

Does the mavic pro 2 ND Filter fits on the mavic air 2s?

Little confused, when in comparsion m2pro video looks sharper, but voice tell air2s shoot better :)) Same thing in photo comparsion. Aperture its not only shutter speed control. Its also improve sharpening in good sunny conditions - almost all lenses shoot worse on wide open and get better result on f/4-f/8. Air2s alweys shoot only wide open.

Still waiting for a Mini with 1 inch sensor. The only thing I need rather than the reset of childish features that nobody really uses much. Great review!

Brilliant comparison review thanks and you have to be the first to post a review from across the pond that doesn't shout and say guys and awesome every two seconds. Your review has cleared up quite a lot of questions that I had without coming across as biased. One thing Im not sure of though is the 4k and 5k resolutions surely you need a device capable of displaying the resolution to see the benefit or am I missing something in the technical side. Once again very good review good and informative to listen too and very nice on the eye

Nice review - but why is there stutter on the 2S footage when there is none on 2s videos on other sites?

The camera comparison was helpful to see. I'd love to hear your overall thoughts on the DJI oversharpened image and clunky codec. For my uses, I hope they chase a pleasing image and smoother playback faster than the resolution race. Something that cuts better with cinema cameras. Maybe that'll be the Mavic 3? It's still a great accomplishment to fit that tech in a small body. Thanks for your review!

yeah playback in davinci is crap with the footage

First time buyer of a drone. Was just about to purchase the Mini 2, should I buy this one? I need it for roof and building inspections.

Sorry for the dumb question - what is the difference between ‘Standard 4K’ and ‘4K UHD’? Thank you.
@lysander21363 жыл бұрын
the picture quality on mavic 2 pro is way more superior, plus the grading options. 5k and crop means nothing for a drone cause you can fly up as close or far as you need. Air2s shows cheap sensor that doesn't rolloff highlights properly and blows them out. Light weight isn't a good thing meaning it'd bounce on wind like a ....... )

I appreciate this video. it help make decision on what drone to get. it's genuine and fair info and review. I hate some other guys who just do stuff for clout and views. thanks folks.
