🧠⏱ No it really isn’t. This looks like (1) a test of a more advanced AI based autonomy system (like the skydio) from the Air 2 with two more cameras to track and (2) a practice test of an in-house designed 1 inch sensor. Getting it quicker to market by using the existing air 2 framework is a filler on the balance sheet for a much bigger step coming beginning / mid (?) of next year. I really believe DJI is working very very hard right now to converge the pro camera system with a 360 degree aware autonomous system similar to the Skydio. All that needs higher power chips and system redesigns to deliver more intense processing. So many changes required, that it simply makes sense to field test that by real users with a real product; hence releasing the Air 2S. In itself this update is likely not really intended to make huge profits, but provide a lot of insights from user feedback, its use and data. While giving people in need of an upgrade from the pro line a pathway to use the new sensor earlier (I don‘t think the sensor will face huge redesigns from the 2S to next major release). Since I’m writing anyway.... my 2cts... tldr: -> After releasing the FPV line, they likely want to build out that segment as the „sport, fun but safe drone“ with adequate (but not cinematic) image quality... (sub 250g DJI FPV drone soon 🤔) -> that FPV line success we see now cannibalizes the standard mavic line which had been the fun drone with „ok but not cinematic sensors“ -> so they work on converging the mavic and pro line into one segment with amazing cameras and advanced AI systems into one system which needs a new hardware / software approach -> the Air 2S is a test of some of the many changes coming, just to get the sensor out and to validate major system architecture changes via user feedback -> while meeting shareholder expectation to release yearly I work in AI and this looks familiar. Not affiliated with DJI but I have the Mini, Air 2, Dji FPV and custom drones ❤️

That's where the Mavic 3 will come in. There are no side obstacle avoidance systems on this, same as the last. I think the Mavic 3 when it does come out, will be better than the Skydio2, and will be on top again. If you think about it, it took a long time for other companies to try to catch up to the last Mavic 2 pro. There is just too much money left on the table for DJI to stop at the Pro 2, and they know it. Great video. Your conclusion makes complete sense. The Skydio 2 was perfect at tracking nearly. The DJI left some to be desired as it hit quite a bit. There is vastly more to it than that though. I even really was noticing the Skydio was struggling keeping semi level when going sideways at times. I could definitely see a lot of tilt and forward and backwards as it avoided trees (as well as wind). While DJI had some of that I believe their overall goal is kind of smoothness and consistency. Not bobbing and out but keeping the same distance and not making the more jerky of motions. The DJI is definitely more of a professional option with the 1 inch sensor and 20MP camera. Skydio is more active tracking specific with solid video that’s more comparable to the Mavic Pro 1st Gen and reminds me of the DJI Spark with the phone only option.

@Janus10003 жыл бұрын
@@jutea9858 Charging as fast as a competitor vs releasing an advertised technology SPECIFICALLY meant to save your high priced technology that just... Doesn't work well at all.. those are apples and oranges. This is what the DJI website says: The combination of portability, safety, and intelligent technology means you can spend more time enjoying flights and less time worrying about them. Take DJI Air 2S into the sky confidently, every flight. Environment Sensing DJI Air 2S has the ability to perceive its environment in four directions: up, down, forward, and backward. The algorithms for Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS 4.0) have been further improved, allowing DJI Air 2S to actively avoid obstacles in more complex scenarios and at high speeds. ---------- Look, if you read that, and watched that above video and said "Nah it's fine, don't gotta be good at everything, why so demanding?"... I have had 3 DJI drones in the past 3 years I picked up the skydio 2 last year. My situation is a little unique I lost an arm in a motorcycle accident show flying a drone in a regular manner it's not possible for me. So I end up selling those drones after another one comes out hoping that it's better than the last. DJI has gotten better at tracking but it's never going to be as good as Skydio. I picked up the sky to because I went on vacation right before the pandemic hit and it was the best decision I ever made. I was able to throw this dream up in the air and me and my wife were able to get some beautiful video of our vacation without any issues. With that said, the Drone sits in a drawer all the time I occasionally turn it on to check for an update. Then I purchased the DJI FPV with the motion controller and these dreams save my sanity. I Can Fly the Drone all I want just like everybody else now. And according to what I've been reading the new mavic Air 2S it's supposed to get an update to use the goggles and the motion controller. When this happens I will buy the 2s as well. I agree they are two different markets I do hope that DJI improves their tracking but I'm not holding my breath you are comparing five cameras on the skydio versus one on the DJI

Great review as always. I kept my original Air and bought the Skydio 2 because of the obstacle avoidance and the beacon, and not needing to lug a controller with you like you have to do with the Air 1, 2 2S etc for any type of tracking more than 100 yards.

Always heartbreaking when you lose a drone. Good on you for keeping your composure and finishing the tests man! Not sure if this is the same in the real world, but I noticed in the video that I really couldn't hear the props on the Air 2S, while the Skydio 2 was obvious. I will say, it is super cool seeing the Skydio 2 accelerate around the trees!

Yeah, its definitely quieter. But ultimately, my mics are pretty good, which really helps as I use lav mics that basically make most of the noise go away.

Very sad that DJI still hasn’t mastered tracking.

Love the comparison. I have a Mavic and the SKYDIO. I love them both for their individual strengths.

You provided us with a good clear comparison despite of losing your drone and gopro 👍

I've noticed the same thing you've mentioned about the 2S. It doesn't seem to notice trees while in active track but in normal manual flying it was able to detect them.

Thanks for a great review! Based on your earlier reviews I purchased the Skydio 2 last year and love it. I still have four other drones including a Mavic Pro and Mavic 2 zoom, but when I'm biking, the Skydio 2 is my drone of choice. By the way, excellent review on the Garmin Rally Power Meter. You helped me decide to purchase the SPD version last week. Good product.

Sorry for your losses. Probably a small floatation device could have helped from losing the drone in water? But I strongly suspect that somewhere deep in the Manual, it's stated something like "avoidance sensors are just the last line of defence from collisions, never abuse them, such as making the drone fly in close proximity of trees, wires and so on..."

As a DJI Mavic 2 pro owner, I'm so furious about this company just because the fact that they don't care about tracking system. I can never rely on active track even while using most advanced mavic in the market now and my next drone will definitely not be a DJI drone! Thanks for this honest video.

Unlike any other, this is an HONEST review!!! DJI is still a few light years behind Skydio when it comes to active tracking!! *Correction, when it comes to obstacle avoidance!!

About a year later and Skydio is still head and shoulders above the competition. I have a spot saved for me in production, but still not 100% sold on the value proposition-clearly it is better than the competition at tracking, but that is just one aspect, for me there’s portability and functionality as a pilot operated camera.

I remember the Mavic Air 2 comparison you did versus the Skydio 2. It seems to me, that the first Air 2, did much better than this new Air 2S. Both the Skydio2 and the Air 2 lost you, but the old Air 2 was way better at tracking you than this one. The Skydio2 won overall, but, I remember you saying it wasn't really about that. It was more of a, "Lets see how well this new Mavic Air 2 will do", type of video. That video as well as this is very revealing! Great work!
