Cell towers (at least here in Europe) have a strong directivity and are not pointed towards the sea. There is no (planned) coverage for the sea. So the signal will quickly die out. Also phones that get warm do "throttle", reducing it's calculating capacity and thus reducing heat. Might have been a combination of these two. What you can do, is you can sit relaxed in the car with the phone in front of the airconditioning opening... cools great, and sits relaxed.

I love this. Would this work if you used a stand alone mobile hotspot and connect your phone/remote to that? That should help with all the processing the phone has to do. Plus the wifi chips in phones are far less demanding then the LTE chips. Your phone is handling everything there. When a phone gets hot it starts to thermal throttle slowing down the processor in attempt to cool it down, which might explain a almost not usable video feed. I expect some lag thru LTE but it should be pretty usable. Also try a speedtest on your device at the location you plan too fly. This is truly amazing!! Can't wait to see what happens in the near future with this kind of tech. I don't usually comment on videos but I absolutely love your videos. You put out the best UAV content!

Hi Dustin, do you use the external antennas (claiming 3-4dbi?), i tried several on the market and all external crc9 antennas were far worse than the internal ones in several e3372 modules. would you mind to do some signal strength tests trough the at commands with and without external antennas?
@DustinDunnill6 жыл бұрын
With the short antennas I did in first test dbm seemed worse so had them off for this flight. The recent test (video up soon) I used longer antennas in a V configuration and seemed to work better. Not really any dbm gain when tested at home on computer but worked good in flight.
@eltereding6 жыл бұрын
thanks for the reply, i purchased the "5dbi" from aliexpress too, lets see in a few weeks. for max range the antennas should be put parallel and not in any "V" configuration, with a 45° or 135° configuration you would cover a wider range on each on but not combined, so maybe turning and circling is better, but for max range(straight) parallel should yield the best result.

I would say better to take a standalone 4g router. I have one that can either be used as a 4g->wifi router, or connected directly over USB as a 4g Modem.
