Hi, I too agree with you that every bird needs a friend. I have two of each. I just lost my one parotlette unexpectedly last night and his cage mate which they were only five month old, Delilah cried for pistachio last night. I’m just wondering how long do I let her mourn I get her another mate?

I have one bird, a 21/2 yr old black headed male. We jokingly call him Mr. Testosterone. He has to be out with girls. If I let him out with a male he immediately goes on the attack. Caique fights are not cute. He was raised with the flock and his cage is next to Floki, a hen and her cage mate, Hrafna. He’s fine in the cage as long as the males are caged. Mr. Testosterone doesn’t have any real friends. The females tolerate him. The females quickly put him onto his place when he gets pushy. It’s an interesting dynamic. I’ve pretty much reconciled myself to just accept him as he is. With us he’s a crazy Caique but shows affection by surfing, beak rubbing and licking. He’s also the best talker. I know Tom Dockery has some birds that are so aggressive he’s had to put plexiglass between cages. So, I’ve come to think that like people some will be buddies and others won’t.😊😊😊

@@1hawaii21 I agree, they really are like people that way. And, like I always say, there’s just no accounting for personality. Like people, they all have different personalities and there’s nothing anyone can do to change that. Not the same as a bad history, which, as you know, can be changed! You have such a good example of both!

When I got my Hahn's from a breeder 20 years, the breeder was trying to sell one of her Severe's Macaw which she intended as a breeding pair, the Severe's although male and female just did not like each other.

How is the Dusky Head Conure doing? I am looking to add either a Dusky or an Indian Ringneck to my flock. I have a pair of green cheek conures now. Obviously theyd be in separate cages and all that.

Get an adult. Hard as an adult to make friends with a young one. :) Glad you are getting him a companion, he will love it no matter what.

Was curious on thought of getting a bird from bird expos. This one I am looking at seems to been around awhile, wondering if vendors are usually reputable at these.

I find that it’s not the place- there are people who practice good husbandry and people who don’t at all levels. I’m sure there are both kinds at a show. Be cautious to make sure you get as healthy and happy a bird as possible.

My new beautiful baby Quaker and Caique are being introduced to my flock. It seems that everyone seems to find my quaker annoying and try to bite her. My Golden Conure and Caique like each other. My Quaker likes me I think too much. She is biting me (beaking) not sure what to do.

I am just learning about parrots/birds and have been consuming your videos for a while now. Thank you for the wonderful work you do and the honest experiences you show everyone. I am retired but not very old, and I've had some dog training experience over the years. I see the differences between dog and bird training and enjoyed the videos from Cesar Millan regarding his birds and dogs. The Macaws in this video are beautiful and interesting. Would these birds make good first birds for someone that is home all day, every day, and interested in keeping birds as pets? My youngest is in college and is also interested in parrots/birds. He would be getting involved with whatever bird(s) we were to get, for his own interest and for the possibility of the birds outliving me. The birds would already be used to him and there wouldn't have to be a major transition if they outlive me. What is your opinion on having these birds as first birds, in this particular situation. Thanks very much. We really appreciate everything you put out for others to view and learn from. 🦜 👍

@@notsosilentmajority1 hello! I’ve been surprised as to what fabulous birds the Blue-headed Macaws are. Thank you for watching and for the compliment! So, you know that I love birds and love a lot of species. I do think that these guys would be excellent first time Birds for someone who is going to put the time in. They are so big that they’re going to be intimidating and they aren’t little birds. They have a lot of personality. I think you would love one!
