Good trick i use to put the chains on the gear is to use a medicine pill bottle with the bottom cut off. Then i put the rubberband on that and run the chains through it, then i slide the rubberbands off where i want to put them.👍or use zip ties.

One suggestion, zip ties worked better for me than rubber bands to hold the chains in place while setting them in position.

Do these 4.7 have problems with heads cracking? I believe I have a head gasket failing. After it has sat overnight or all day at work when I start it up I smell a good whiff of burning coolant, just for a couple seconds. It is using maybe a quart of coolant every 5k miles. Hoping it is just a head gasket not a cracked head, it has been well cared for never overheated. I put some dye in the coolant hoping it will color the spark plug enough over time to help me find the cylinder that is burning it.

I have a question I am at the point I need to take the timing pulley off but I cannot take the chain off everything is too tight still even disconnected can anybody please help me

How screwed are you if when doing work on the top end, for example chain-ging a cam shaft that the cam shaft timing chain should the timing chain slip off the tensioner? If it does fall off the tensioner could the excess chain, slack cause the timing chain to skip some teeth on the idler? I think I shot myself in the foot here. Cause there is mad slack in my timing chains.

Hi Jamie, Thank you very much for the video! We used it to make my engine. Now I have problem repairing my engine WJ 2002 V8 HO. Could you give some ideas? The left head (driver side) has lower compression level in the all cylinders comparing to the right head. I checked chain dots and I definitly shure that problem is out of wrong chain position. But when I am turning crankshaft to the upper piston position I can see that corresponding 2 valves are closed. But on the left head it does not happen. One of two valves is partially opened. So it is the reason for different compression, but I have no idea what is the reason for wrong valve position... Kind regards, Serg.

+TestTestSS hi it sounds like you're not at 12 o'clock on both of the Cam is under the Cam are sitting at 12 o'clock and the crank is sitting where it's supposed to be after you said timing and turned it twice you should be right on the money there's there's no way to have it wrong, you do let me know if your Cam are both at 12 o'clock, and what I mean by that is your me a symbol nice be pointed at the 12 o'clock on the left and right Cam
@testtestss45078 жыл бұрын
I'll check dots tomorrow. But there is an option that previous car owner replace left or right cam with standard one - not H.O. May it lead to such situation like mine? Do you know how to distinguish standard vs HO cams?

I have a 2000 durango I had a mechanic run diagnostic he told me to bring to the shop , it needs a sensor he said. so I drop it off and go pay insurance by the time I get back it doesn't run. he begins telling me it need this and that 1700 dollars later after months of bs it still don't run. he supposedly did the timing too. but never could figure the problem out. I reach my finger in where the cam sensor hole is located and i can spin that reluctor by finger tip. would this be my problem if so, I'm a father of five and don't have a lot of money and could really use your input. so far you have been more help than everyone I've talked too. I can't find the part anywhere and no shops want to tackle this. I am hoping there is an easy way to fix my only vehicle that's not to expensive
@jamiejonesthecarman7 жыл бұрын
+luke savage hello , so yes you fix it cheap it just takes a little time , the first thing is a compression test on all cylinder s , you can rent a tester at any parts place , come back and let's verify the engine timing is correct

How likely is it that if the timing chain jumps a tooth you have to pull the heads because of a bent valve on a 4.7 out of a 2001 Dodge Dakota? Thanks
@jamiejonesthecarman7 жыл бұрын
Charles Lawrence jump timing is rare , 1st do a compression test on all cyl , if its way off , pull the timing cover etc , turn crank till both cams are at the v8 at 12 oclock, make sure crank is on mark , if its not, you can reset timing with your new set , hand turn 3 times if it clears , do comp test, also you put a scope down plug holes to see is you see any strike marks on top piston
@charleslawrence71877 жыл бұрын
I just bought it for my son with the guy telling me it was a bad timing chain. He had taken it to a shop I know, but the tech doesn't remember checking the truck out, as he work on many cars. I did however find papers from that shop saying broke timing chain. I have not dug into it at all. I know the shop checked spark because they left there test coil attached. And what I believe to be a crank senior is just laying under the hood. So what is the reason I see so many videos and chats on line about the 4.7 timing chain? Thank you and I appreciate any advice.

i do disagree , the chinese oil pump that u have there tolerances are equal to a 75% used original pump , i mean the tolerances on that shit is a lot worse than my 140.000 km oil pump ... Folow the specs on the repair manual w exact tolerances ... If iner or outer rotor are thiner than 11.9888 mm REPLACE , if rotor size is less than 85.928 mm REPLACE , if pump cover are scratched or bent replace ... fill pump w oil , if leaks tru rotor and the cover REPLACE ...
