You should fill that gap with a nice bit of Blue John !!! Its a stone found only in one place in the world in England ,American presidents used to collect it and it's not to expensive !!! And swing as your other half does all that type of thing ,it should be a cake walk ! And hello from England ,󾓪󾓦󾓪󾓦󾓪󾓦󾓪󾓦󾓪󾓦󾓪󾓦󾓪󾓦󾓪󾓦

That came out nice, I was wondering if you rounded out the hole how a 12 ga shell brass would look, if not maybe a rawhide laced leather wrap, just a thought. And a hidden laser sight in the fore-end would be cool and usefull, looks like you have the room. Btw: if you ever do a sight job again, check with Brownells, they use to have a shotgun bead site kit for around $10, two beads, and the correct drill and tap, it made the job easy.

A nice piece of turquoise or malachite would look unique as a plug to hide the screw.

If ypu go to a national park they have penny elongator/stretcher machines that imprint a logo in the penny like black bears, mountains, etc. Looks like it would fit the hole/gap.

The hole is an easy fix. get some veneer of the same type of wood as the butt using a very good sharp chisel, cut a 1 inch strip wide or so off the back of the butt handle from the top to the bottom of your new handle, 1/25 th inch like the veneers thickness and sand the cut area to a smooth finish. Maybe a bit wider depending on the hole size. Secure you would plug you made with some filler. Gorrilla glue the veneer and clam it in place. make sure your veneer is tight to the sides of the original cut so it blends in with the wood grain. Sand and fill with oil based wood filler only. Then stain it as you want, and rub it with a danish oil. If its done right, you wont even know it had a screw there and the handle will be perfect.

I did one before and used an old cork to plug the hold. You can get a larger one and easily cut it down to size needed and it should stain up the same color and then you can remove it at anytime with a corkscrew in-case you need to change out the stock.

Beautiful job. You should try to get a brass piece made for the hole and butt, just like how they used to have a club end.

Could u maybe fit some kind of a coin in the hole or maybe a stone like a onyx depends on the curve I guess and then epoxy over it to fill in the gap and make it flush with the grip

great job on the sawed-off I am not familiar with the sxs shotgun is that the chinese-made 1 I saw one at my local Dunham's for 125

SXS Shotgun means side by side shotgun. But it is a chinese made shotgun - it is a Century Arms JW-2000 Coach Shotgun Imported from China by Century Arms. If you can find one of these for $125, I would snatch it up quickly!!

Great work, I remember you said you used a dowel, is there a reason you're keeping the rest of the stock? If not, i'd just cut a chunk out of it and carve a plug to fill the hole, then the color would definitely match.
@longdread575outdoorculture
@longdread575outdoorculture 9 жыл бұрын
+XxTypicalxUsernamexX Yes! Thats what I tried to do in the beginning of the video. I cut a chunk out of the stock and tried to shape it to fit the screw hole. It didnt work out as I envisioned. LOL! My woodworking skills arent as good as I think they are! The dowel fit almost perfectly but I couldnt get the different woods to match. Anyways, I just left it as is, I havent given it much thought since! The rifle is one of favorites though!! Thanks for watching

Ohhh okay, when I was watching I saw the piece you cut out of the stock and thought "Why'd he do that?" I guess it didn't register with me when you said why lol, awesome that you're happy with it though, less work to do and less frustration if it doesn't turn out right again :)

shaping that piece freehand would be difficult, but you could probably find a 3/4 plug cutter.

I'm thinking of doing the same exact thing how'd you cut the stock and how does it shoot
@longdread575outdoorculture
@longdread575outdoorculture 8 жыл бұрын
+sean white I used a band saw to cut the stock and then I used a sander to shape it into a birds head style grip. Then finished the grip with some 150 and 300 grit sandpaper. It shoots great, I should have a short video on my channel somewhere of us shooting it.

+longdread575 I know I'm late to the party but what about a leather wrap around the grip? It might help with recoil maybe add a cool factor if done right. You could still use the plug. Just a thought but I love the build.

longdread575 check this out, I would do the laces in to cover the plug as well as give you almost a stippling on the front to grip on to, and I imagine you could even space out the laces for finger grooves and pack something rubber in there for extra padding shutupnerds.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Grip1.jpg

great job Sir. is it at all possible to fashion a plug from the old buttstock?

Probably could work. As it sits now, I dont even address it anymore. Its just cosmetic and I dont even notice it really. Also if I would ever need to remove the stock again it wouldnt be a problem. FYI: This shotgun is still one of my favorites in my collection. Thanks for watching
