Hi Rene. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate these three videos. I’m not sure I would have attempted it without them as the paperwork in the box is ambiguous and only covers some fine points for the professional installers (you would think it would at least have a parts list). As I post this, I'm in the middle of it all so, I few of points and questions: That smaller black washer, you put behind the larger one on the pawl shaft, doesn’t go there. It’s a .040” shim for the shifter drum shaft. It’s covered in that lame paperwork. BTW - I recommend to anyone trying this that they download the .pdf file from Ultima; the pictures are clearer and you can zoom in for a better look. The tool for installing the main drive gear into the bearing costs over $340. That’s highway robbery! I have an idea to fabricate something and putting a heat gun onto the bearing before I pull the shaft out of the freezer but, I was wondering what tool you used to pull the shaft through the inner race without damaging the bearing, where you got it and how much did it cost? -Thanks

Thank you Matthew, yes I couldn't agree more - its quite some job and I recommend to continue from start to finish and have the time for it in order not to hick up somewhere along the assembly. The smaller washer was actually set in place after the video clip was filmed and I thought it was there so you are 100 percent correct, and yes its is an expensive tool for the main bearing. to pull the shaft through I warmed it a little - NOT much, then I rented the pulley and carefully attached the pulley on the shaft on the left side and pulled it through gently. This cost me the rent of 5 bucks, and full deposit back. Advanced autoparts has it. my bike has now been running well since the exchange 1 1/2 year ago. no leaks , and no problems. 👍👍Thank you for commenting. I am so glad you liked it. The job is not so bad, it’s actually a lot of fun. I have now been driving this for almost 6 Months and the bike is doing really well, I am so happy with the set up and 6th speed. Be aware that you might have to calibrate your speedometer since the new 6th gear has a different diameter in the transmission than your old 5th gear. Rene if you switch top cover to late evo style the neutral switch will be in right position and no false fourth gear neutral. This cover moves switch 1/8" approximately. Too late now though since you ground the shift drum. Still works. Nice if Ultima told you this in advance eh...in my opinion.

Thanks for commenting, yes I figured this out a little late too, however I wanted to get on the road again, which resulted in the cheap modification and no additionally cost. I have now been driving the bike for 2 months and it works really well. It does give a flicker of green during up/downshift from 4th gear due to ground contact momentarily, but I really don't see it anymore. On the other hand the bike runs really well with this transmission and I can only recommend it to everyone... best regards Rene

Rene, the only reason I know so much about this is I've installed a few for myself and friends. The ultima is designed after the original Baker OD6 from 1997 which was of course an evo. For some reason the twin cam setup is almost exactly the same except for the cover profile and the neutral switch?! Why? Who knows? Ultima like rivera primo and perhaps jims and others all use same design. Fits...but almost...you know...in my opinion...j

Hello Rene, I installed a 6-speed last on a 1998 harley davidson softail evo 1340cc, all good, but there is a slight sound in gear 3 and louder in gear 4. Do you know what it may be due to? since, in 1, 2, 5, 6 march it has no sound

Thanks for watching and commenting- did you adjust the shifter pal to neutral while it was in 3rd gear ? If not I would do that first. I don’t have any of these sounds though - have you tried a different gear oil, I went up in viscosity since it’s so warm here and that changes the sound slightly. Hey Rene I have a question I just put the Ultima 6 speed and only shifting to four gear I took it off like three times and check the gears and everything works but when I put it back and I chipped it with the cylinder install continue to shift only to fourth gear that’s normal

Thanks for commenting and watching, to answer your question I think it’s your shifter pawl (selector) that is not adjusted correctly. That would make this happen. Can you run over that again. I live in a part of US that is quite hot, so I use the 20-50w for my bike - its the same as the motor oil on this bike - however it does not have to be the same in your case - if you are in doubt then consult your manual or repair shop and ask what would be the best in your case. hope that helps best regards Rene

Hey man. Did your dal pin for the 3 shifter pawls come in the kit? I have this kit sitting on my table waiting for tools For install. I don’t have the long dal for the 3 shifter forks.

Thank for commenting.... If it is the shifter pawl, that is broken ? Then there is no easy or quick fix. It is the first thing to go into the transmission, even before the transmission is installed in the engine block. You basically will have to follow video part one and disassembly, since you need the transmission out by approx 1-1,5 inch, in order for you to take the old shifter pawl out, and replace it with the new one. To do that you will have to move or remove the race on the driveshaft, where the belt is located. So all in all you are taking the engine apart the same way as on the videos. New gaskets needed, etc etc.... I might do a video on this in the future. If and when you install and old shifter pawl, make sure it is as good as new, before installation. Part 2 will be the installation video basically. I hope this will help....if you want we can do a video chat to ease the process. best regards Rene

@ Rihari, you might. be able to make a different modification on the pawl, that could get you out of the woods for a while. Drill a hole through it and use a cutter pin, or small bolt could help if it is the small wrinkles which is worn out. Otherwise you are in for a longer repair. best regards Rene

I've HEARD of the shifter pawl breaking and being replaced with Baker shifter pawl...I'll send comparison pic...

Ok the air-blowers i have on is connected to the battery, they are attached to the bike via the horn linkage. I will make a video so you can see it. It works really nice and keeps the engine cool during slow moving traffic. Brand for the road king is called :love jugs.
