It just struck me! "IF" theses guys open source the API application programming interface or the app itself, there's lots of extras one could do with this radio. Limitled only by the imagination, for example, buy two radios, make a repeater or a crossbander... control more than one radio at a time, data/packet network, digital modes, text messages, photos emails, etc. Effectively giving an Android enabled device, or even Linux arm or x86 an alternate low speed, high power communications interface

OMG! these guys get it!! Compact, well built, APRS, Bluetooth, FULL smartphone integration, and imagine that; a Mic that is also a speaker! Its radios like these that I hope the big 3 pay attention to! Could you image a HT like this? To add food for thought, DStar is supposedly open source also...

I am interested in this, however, one question for anyone who has one - Is there a way to quickly/easily import things like repeater lists to the radio? Programming it by hand, even with the app, would be a pain if you plan on traveling with it great distances.
@dwayne55305 жыл бұрын
A DMR version would be pretty killer at the right price especially if they support it with firmware updates. Needs a nice clean UI app for it though. Would be awesome if it could do more than one digital mode like DMR/DSTAR. Don't have one but think I agree with you on the MIC PTT design After seeing this radio and thinking along the lines of Bluetooth why couldn't other radios like the AnyTone or Kenwood release an app that interfaces with their radio BlueTooth like this one does? That really would take care of the AnyTone not having a remote face.

I think sales would go crazy if they could add "All Mode" like SSB etc. This is the cool but somewhat forgotten Ham Radio mode for ultimate analog Ham Radio in the popular VHF/UHF bands. Lots of fun to be had on SSB with a VHF/UHF horizontal beam antenna especially when HF band are lacking.

That APRS burst sending a message sounds like it might be 9600 bps. Is there a way to change it to 1200 bps? Interesting idea, headless radio, that uses apps for programming and control, but the app software looks very klunky. If they polish it up, I might be more interested. Better yet, if they release a SDK, third parties could develop apps for it also. How is the receiver? Does it use a superheterodyne receiver or is it just your run of the mill ChiCom direct-conversion? I’m much more interested in having a quality analog receiver than digital such as DMR.
@bobd.5 жыл бұрын
Can it be configured to give you more than just the channel number? Would be nice in setup to be able to give a name to the channel like the repeaters callsign (KJ4YZI/R for instance) or some other short name and then be able to hear the name or frequency in place of "channel n". Don't know about anyone else but I will not remember many of those channel numbers and using it headless you'd have no display to glance at to know what band or frequency you're on so no idea where you're transmitting other than the channel number that's basically meaningless as far as responsible operating goes.

Ordered this reado the other night along with the Bluetooth microphone. Good to know about being able to run programmed channels without the smartphone/tablet. I run pretty much on our local repeater and one or two other frequencies. Nice to know I can stash the radio out of sight and just run radio with the mic and not have to mount the tablet unless I want to or to do some additional stuff. Btw, have you ever tried the net to radio crossbanding? That would make a great video. Especially on duplex. I'm thinking if I could set up a chat room that some of our old members who have moved away could log into then have the radio cross band to our local repeater then they could join in our weekly net. We don't have any VOIP nodes of any kind on our repeater so no DMR, Allstar, Echolink, access available. We're a one stoplight town in rural SW Texas. I wonder if we did that though would I still be able to use the radio too or would I need to use a different radio to access the repeater while the N7500 was handing net/analog cross band. You know, if you just happen to have some time on your hands and an overflow of curiosity. Just make a video if you do. :D 73, K5WLF

Greetings! Check it out... If you tap on the little icon that looks like it'd be a profile picture, right next to "VR-N7500" you'll get into a different menu that's not in any of the settings.. You can configure auto-id (morse presumably, I haven't tested it) and location sending. If you scroll down a bit you'll see a switch called, "Use APRS format" and that toggle is OFF by default. Flip that on and it should, in theory, broadcast APRS properly. This is also where you'd configure automatic location sharing via internet or RF as well and the standard message to go along with it. I hope that sends you in the right direction! 73, KW0RM "The Worm"
