The pliers with the pads are Running Breaker pliers. The ones you call nippers are actually Grozers. You should use the flat side on the top, and pull any unbroken pieces away from the sheer.

I have a question that you might have answered in one of your other videos. Let's say that I sat down to work on my glass, foiled everything, then was called away by a kid and couldn't get back to it until the next day. Is there a time limit between foiling and soldering (oxidation issues)? (I assume there when applying flux) I have looked it up, but I trust your expertise. You have managed to make this complicated, overwhelming and expensive art accessible. You've given me the confidence to actually dive in and do it. What a beautiful gift- thank you!
@MakenzieHallieАй бұрын
@@Sarah-dx5en thank you so much Sarah! So glad you've found my videos helpful. So quick answer is yes and no. Lol. 1 day will be absolutely fine but longer periods like a week or two. Or a month, and then the foil is going to really oxidize to the point where it's ALOT tougher to work with and clean away the ox with flux.

@MakenzieHallie4 жыл бұрын
You are so welcome!!! I'm so glad your finding it helpful!!!! ok so, your going to have to put a cut in the bottom of the V, at a diagonal angle, parallel to the right side of the letter. I'm assuming you do not have a ring saw to saw the piece out? Adding an extra cut/seam at the bottom will be the only other way!- hope I described that ok!!! lol! Pretend the pieces are two blocks or something, each side a piece. Dont put a split in the middle, you want the largest area to make that cut in for strength. Follow that inside edge all the way down, on the right side of the letter!

Thank you for explaining tinning the soldering tip! I have one of those blocks but didn't know what it was for. I saw in one video you use a clear bin to grind on (?) I have a larger version of your grinder I think, the studio grinder, do you think I should put something under it when grinding? Do you wear a mask or have a fan on when soldering? My bf makes jewelry so he has a small fume catcher he said I could use when soldering (he has a giant vent fan for himself now for when he's melting ingots)

In not on*
@MakenzieHallie4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching!! And yes, I had no clue what tinner or tinning even was when I first started, but thankfully after 1 burned through tip, I believe I stumbled across it on amazon! lol!!! And absolutely, the fumes of the flux itself is most dangerous, wearing a respirator and having good air flow like your fume catcher will work great. Working with leaded solder, a lot of people think that is the dangerous part to inhale, but its not. Leaded solder becomes dangerous when heated to the point of vaporization, which will thankfully never happen with our soldering irons. lol! Flux can cause a large amount of breathing/respiratory issues so at the LEAST a mask and a fan, best case, a respirator. Again thank you for watching and I'm so sorry this response took so long, i'm going through pages of comments youtube never notified me of!!!

@MakenzieHallie4 жыл бұрын
To be honest they dont make much of a difference if your referring to pencil grip, I will use just about whatever, 6-12, 12-20, dont matter to much! And as far as replacing, depends how much and how you use it! You should be able to get months of use from a single head! 🖤

Makenzie Hallie is it toyo? Fletcher? I’m not familiar with those numbers, is that a size? Thanks, I’m such a newb.
@MakenzieHallie4 жыл бұрын
ohhhhh I'm so sorry! Numbers don't even matter so just totally disregard that! SO again, brand and shit dont even matter. Just look at a "pistol grip" glass cutter and a "pencil grip" glass cutter. Type those both in amazon and it will pop right up, grab one of each in your price range and see what is most comfortable for you. For the sake of arthritis I will always suggest pistol grip, but that's not what I use for comfort reasons. But I will regret it long term. Your hands will seize up with age but it's a price I'm prepared to pay lol. ANYWAY, ignore brand, ignore "head size", just grab it right on Amazon. I'll attach both of my suggestions here- (Pencil grip)- www.amazon.com/Pili-Paradise-Pencil-Cutting-Mosaic-Stained/dp/B08CZN6TVT (Pistol grip)- www.amazon.com/Pack-Pistol-Grip-Glass-Cutter/dp/B073MD3DWC If you want to spend more on a Toyo or something go right ahead, but I find with glass "cutters" they all do the job. Which is not much lol! Just scoring the glass and if it scores, it scores. ya kno what I mean? Hope this helps! Be patient with yourself, you'll learn it all in time and practice! 🖤

Love your videos, I'm constantly learning so thank you. :) Do you have a tutorial about grinding deep notches or indentations? I have small grinder bits but they sit on top of the larger one so they're far away from the reservoir which means I use my sponge to keep it wet while grinding. Is there an easier way? Maybe a Dremal tool with the glass laying in the reservoir? Don't worry, there's an extension on it so I'm not putting an electric tool in the water. lol Again, thank you. @MakenzieHallie3 жыл бұрын
It is not easy at all. This art takes YEARS to get really comfortable with. So number 1, be patient. Number 2, practice. Practice practice practice. My first and most widely suggested tip for beginners is making sure you are starting at the absolute edge of the glass and scoring all the way off. You may think your close but just double check. 9 times out of ten that is the problem with new glass artists. What are you using to break the glass? What tool?

@MakenzieHallie3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. SELL IT! Keep it organized well, by color, type and texture. Then bag it up and sell it by weight online. Alot of people will snatch scraps up, for a good chunk of $, considering we don't use it all! Just Google or eBay glass scraps, take a look around and you'll get the idea of what people want and expect to pay for what.

Sorry about that I didn’t mean to come off as a know or all jerk. You’re a great teacher.

I know you didn't mean any harm. It's just kind of disheartening/hurtful when only the negatives are pointed out in comments. Like I said, I appreciate your comment none the less! Now that I'm years in, I'll be doing some updated videos soon!
