Part 2 Story and Lore Explained - Dreams, Shadows, and DOGS | Honkai Impact 3rd

So, Part 2 of Honkai Impact 3rd was released a while ago and HoYoverse hit us with a ton of lore… all at once. And people are confused! I know this, because every time I saw any discussion regarding the lore of Part 2 on social media, I felt like I was reading fan fiction. So I've spent the last few weeks preparing the oven to cook this video… and hopefully offer a clearer image of what is happening!
Trust me! After organizing all the information… it's not as complicated! I think that it felt that way because the lore was thrown at us quickly. Plus, there's the technical jargon… and the classic Honkai Impact 3rd English localization, which doesn’t help with the flow of the text.
If my previous Part 2 video served as an introduction to the world of Luoxing and explained how the stories of Part 1 and Part 2 are connected, this video talks about the events that are happening in the story of Part 2. I will briefly go over the History of Mars, The Curse of Shadows, the 7 Shus, and explain everything that happened in Chapter 1 regarding Litost and Duonigue.

Hello! The script for this video was written before Chapter 2 came out. Due to my back pain, I took some time off from content creation and the editing process was very slow. That is why you'll notice that the editing in the second half of the video is not as good and polished like the first half. I'm sorry for that! But I just didn't feel well enough to go all in and I just wanted to finish this video ASAP. Chapter 2 reveals some new info that I didn't mention in the video, like how the Shus get their powers from counterfeit Astral Rings made by Baiji… and more. All the stuff revealed in Chapter 2 will be addressed in a future video, so don't worry about it! I just wanted to let you know why some info is not there is you were wondering.

Chenxue & Songque will be the most interesting characters

I was just about to say the same thing. Both of them are much more than meets the eye. Chenxue, seems on surface to be a dedicated university data scientist, but her competence slowly revealing to be much more than just a person of knowledge. Like how she handled Oxia crisis with such finesse and composure, and how she smoothly negotiated with a hot headed highly trained killer aka Tsavorae on the last chapter. Also if I'm not mistaken, she has known dreemseeker since she was a tube baby. And in the last event (the cooking event) she could shapeshifted herself into a phantom. And Songque, she seems to be the most incompetent of the seven shus, like how she always depreciate herself in discussions, and how she always backdown in a confrontation. But the fact that she's the only Shu that has been awake *thoroughly* after the great eruption, and handled Lanqiu on her own seems to suggest otherwise about her competence. On top of that, she's The Shu of Deception but hasn't been shown to deceived anything, that is sus in and of itself.... And she always collapsed at the climax moment, first she collapsed in the middle of the amber street panic incident, and then she collapsed at the end of chapter 2 when they fought Tsavorae.

Thank you as always for the recap. I don't know what it is about the part 2 lore but I love it so much and was immediately hooked. Songque is probably my favorite character in part 2. Can't wait to find out more about her in future chapters. Even though chapter 1 act 2 specifically wasn't my favorite it wasn't hard to understand for me at least. The only problem I had was with the timeline. There were just too many major events and figuring out in which order they happened was a bit confusing. Thanks for clearing it up now everything makes sense. I really can't wait for chapter 3. From what we have seen so far chapter 3 might be absolutely insane. I am both excited and terrified. I really hope that we see Ai and Vita at the end of chapter 3. I need them to finally go down there and join the team. They have been edging us for months now. Giving us a 2-minute scene in each chapter I can't take it anymore😭

The first chapter of Part 2 in 7.3 did TOO MUCH lore dumping all at once which is why I feel like the beginning got a bit slow for a while after the Senadina dance cutscene. Definitely confused a lot of new players. (A few of my friends who finally got into the game were really confused by all the Part 2 stuff) The Thelema Character Event and the next story chapter in 7.4 was A LOT better and much more enjoyable, also had a lot of great new lore about the Shu's and more. *Fingers crossed they keep on improving the story more and more.* 🤞 Thanks for the lore explanation HOMU! 👍

What Songque said was that there were other people who could deal with some of the 10 Faces of Misery like the Shadow Monsters using special tools like Scudder and the Lantern organization. But in order to be a Shu you had to be able to deal with all 10 Faces of Misery. As far as we know, there are only 7 Shus.

Regarding Litost's grave sin, it was talked about briefly I don't remember when and by who sadly, will have to replay the entire story to find it but either someone assumed or said it - that Litost caused the death of all the people in Amber street, or something along those lines. My memory is very vague on this so if I'm wrong just tell me what was it about Amber street and Litost instead to fix it edit: nvm you addressed it afterwards it seems to have no connection to the grave sin that initially caused him to want to be forgotten Also great video and explanations, loved it !

Hm... I just noticed that all Shu methods are related to HSR Paths. Pleasure-something that brings Elation. Sacrifice-something that requires significant determination, which is governed by Hunt. Union-something that brings Harmony. Destruction- well...Destruction Falsehood and Deception-something governed by Enigmata. Gadgets-something that can be made with Erudition Coincidence or reuse of concept-we shall see.

I don't think there is any connection there. The 7 Shus are most likely inspired by the Arts of Politics and War from the Han Feizi, an ancient Chinese text.

In playing Honkai Impact and other Mihoyo games our brains are trained to think in metaphors, and subtext, which is why we understand this Gordian knot of a story, the newbies just haven't gotten used to it. That's more so funny English localization ala HI3. They confirmed in the 7.3 CN Dev Livestream when they showed the timeline for the first time that it's the same Cocoon that traveled to Mars, Venus and eventually ended up on Earth.

Seems there’s always life forms. That want to destroy the entire world.. Honkai, the swarm(Star Rail), Anti- matter Legion, Kamis , and other life forms or creatures that want to destroy planets. Cause it seems, the entire universe is full of these creatures of destruction . Aeon of destruction, Honkai, finality cocoon, and other Godlike creatures that want to destroy worlds. It’s like the universe is both the creator of both creation and destruction . Some world are destroyed , a New World created from the ashes. As an example, a star dies , it turns into a new star or a black hole. either creating a new solar system or a new universe. My theory is that the creatures of destruction and gods of destructionexist to destroy , and universe just re-create whatever they destroy, creating a new star, a new planet, or even a new universe. Even though some of these worlds have been destroyed, they still exist as bubble universes meaning they were re-created, which is an endless cycle of destruction and creation . My theory is that most of the destroyed worlds eventually turned into a new universe, but billions of years in the future . but in a different universe.

I think the problem with part 2 is that the way they tell you the story is so unnecessary complex and metaphorical that a lot of new and old players both confused on the story, which makes a lot of people either bored or quit the game

Thanks for the big recap, Part 2 storytelling has been the worst experience I’ve had with this game after years of playing. It made me actually seriously consider quitting the game for the first time from how much of a bad time I was having. And now after being told about whatever happened in chapter one, I’m still not compelled to be invested in the world and the characters. It doesn’t feel like there’s an actual writer behind this story, there’s the information they came up with and want to tell to the players but they are incapable to presenting it in a compelling way that could get an audience like me invested. Compare it to the early Part 1 chapters where, although had it’s flaws, they knew how to properly present the story’s early chapters by not over complicating everything and info-dumping. They kept it simple, here’s the world, here’s the enemies, here’re our casts and we’ll show you what they’re like, not telling but actually showing. All that aside, thanks again for making this video. At least I can make a better judgement if I will keep playing or not now that I know what kind of story we’re being given here.

Comparing to chapter 1-2 of each respective part, part 2 is better even though it's complicated in the first chapter. The first few chapters of part 1 were flat, people forgot how it was. I have replayed the game twice, and I'd rather learn part 2 story.

If it talking about the first 2 or 3 chapters I can see where you’re coming from but if not then it’s too early to say that.

Part 2 is still the my least favorite experience. Absolutely nothing made sense, silent protagonist, artifacts farming, treasure finding.. and just lots of nonsense. This is terrible..
