Oh Nikki your so cute and I can see and hear your excitement about this wonderful move! I loved seeing all your choices of patterns and fabric, I even have some of your patterns too! It was fun to hear your feelings about the pattern and to hear all your thoughts about what fabric, I love that you put the patterns with so many choices of fabric!! It will be fun to see if as time goes by you change some thoughts on them.... how fun! Enjoy the excitement and YOU really brighten my day with each of your videos! 😍

Dotty, the one thing you can always count on is me changing my mind at the last possible second! I believe I could be described as mercurial? You heard the excitement in my voice, its true. I have been dying to get out of Maryland almost the second I got here! I don't think all of MD is bad, I just happen to be stuck in a really boring part of it.

OMG, cool is the holy grail for me! I know that I have "cool kid" potential, but a lot of times I leave the house and end up looking more like "I gave up 5 years ago" girl. I refuse to wear pajamas or sweats to the store though, so I am at least not completely beyond hope! I am excited to get some stuff sewn up, I thought I picked a couple of winners!

I have really enjoyed the 2 part videos. You have the most amazing fabric stash on the planet. I love your fabric setup. I'm contemplating getting rid of my medium size chest freezer (in my sewing room) to accommodate more room to store my own fabric stash, and replacing it with some shelving to store my fabrics. I'll just have to make do with my refrigerator freezer in my small apartment size kitchen or purchase a much smaller freezer later. But as of now, my fabrics will have to come first. So, You have a right to have those gorgeous pieces of fabulous fabrics. P. S., I always move my machines by myself. Take care of those babies.

Laverne, glad you like the two part ones, they work out great for me too, because I only have to film once! I love my stash too! I used to have nothing, but I have been really trying to build it up for this move. I know I will have to severely cut my spending when we get to AZ so this is the time to hide my nuts for the winter, ya know? I would not want to share my potential fabric storage space with a freezer either! Think of all the fabric you could have instead of food!!!

Thanks for sharing your sewing plans with us. I love how you picked multiple fabrics to go with each pattern. I often struggle to pair it down to one fabric/pattern, so I will try deciding it this way in the future. You'll be so tired getting the house ready to move that you won't have time to sew anyway, so it will be fine to be away from the stash for a bit. I think all of us who watch you would drive with our machines to our new homes. If you have time, please make that dress with the white twill plaid and B6388.

Debbie, it was my pleasure to show you what I have going on in the sewing room! I have to give myself choices or I start to shrivel up inside. Making set in stone plans destroys my drive to make things so I like to have a ton of options so I still get to dream up new combinations. I was just thinking of what to sew up next and I picked out the asymmetrical skirt to go first, but I had my hands on that dress, so I think it will be next up on the list!

This is sort of how I do my seasonal makes too. After swapping my spring/summer fabrics with my fall/winter ones, I pull the patterns I think I will make, then look back through for appropriate fabrics to sort of just pair with them so that I can have a visual of my options. I find it super helpful...or would, if it led to me making anything...but we know how that is. It's the thought that counts, and I'm one step closer to making something than if I had left all my fabric & patterns stored away.
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
Ruby, I don't think I can go back to keeping all of my fabrics in the cubes at once! I expanded beyond my storage capabilities!!! I think its ok to spend time thinking about creating instead of creating. Sometimes we need to let our hands rest and our minds play, ya know? I had a whole extra day of sewing and I spent most of it staring at patterns and fabric and thinking instead. It was just as enjoyable to me.

Wow, I have a few thoughts on part deux. 1) this system could work for seasonal sewing options for those who don’t necessarily want to commit to this pattern + this fabric= garment 2) I should obviously be looking at Fabric Mart more often 3) I really hope you do the one with the plaid twill, that fabric is 😍 4) I always find new patterns when I watch your vlogs. Also if you’re looking to adopt a 40+ year old woman to sew for, hit me I’m, I’m available 🤣😂 Thanks for sharing, enjoyed these!

Viv, I have done this before in a way and just shoved it under the table, it can be very useful for short periods of time for me, but others may be able to stick to it for a whole season far better than I, so excellent point! I love me some fabric mart, but I was just on a shopping spree with Stylish Fabrics and their solid color rayon jerseys are listed for about 3 dollars a yard for the lightweight stuff to 6 or 7 a yard for the extra heavyweight stuff. So, of course I went nuts and will probably be able to fill a bin with just what I bought from them. I am an idiot! (but seriously, check out stylish fabrics...)

I made the 6388 dress out of the bottom "confetti" fabric. I love it. I live in it. My one bit of advice would be to either eliminate the pockets or do them out of a lighter material. I had made the pockets out of the dress fabric and they were WAY too heavy and bulky. Messed up the line of the dress so I took them out.
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
I just sewed this up last night and I took your advice, no pockets was the way to go. However, I had to cut if off and turn it into a top anyway. My fabric didn't have quite enough stretch to make it look nice over my hips. I am perfectly ok with shapewear, but I try to save it for special occasions and this was supposed to be a casual dress, so I turned it into a top and now I know to add lycra or a bigger seam allowance to the mix!

I’ve had Butterick 6388 in my pattern stash for quite awhile. I really like the top and don’t know why I haven’t tackled it. I think it would look great in the confetti knit. Did you get that knit from Style Maker by any chance? I got fabric that looks just like it from them and I’m really unhappy with how it launders. I made the Itch to Stitch Bellavista Top out of it and it has to be ironed every time and doesn’t hold up well while wearing. If you haven’t tried the Bellavista top, you may want to consider it. I love that pattern. I’m not crazy about the cowl neck. It’s so big it’s kind of fussy to wear but I love the body and sleeve shape. I plan to make a few more without the cowl.
@SewingatMidnight6 жыл бұрын
I just sewed up 6388 last night, I sewed up the dress and then chopped it off to turn it into the top because my fabric doesn't have quite enough stretch to accommodate my generous hips, no big deal. I got the fabric from Nick of Time and I haven't had any trouble with it in the wash, but I only washed the fabric, I haven't tried to wash the finished top yet... well, almost finished, it needs a hem. I have not tried the Bellavista top, but I do love a cowl!

So you go to a second hand store and find a table for your machine/s and donate it the day you move out! lol As for cooking out of a pot- dollar store tin foil pans-oven roast or bake food, you can re use them a couple times then recycle them! I love how you project organized your cube cupboard, I think I'm going to chat with my daughter about the one she had for university-if we move to where she lives 7 hours away from us, I might snag it from her to use as you use yours! I think it's still in pieces since her idea of taking it apart (Ikea-not meant to take apart once it's together) was to cut the pegs that hold it together! lol Make sure when you look for a new place, you get a larger sewing room! lol
