After reading so many comments under these series, I feel the psychologists are offended by some of the statements said by Dr. But, I watched the entire series and never found where they could be offended. Doctor criticised the method in Kerala where for everything they go for counselling, and never reach to a psychiatrist, but some diseases need medicines and not just counselling. That was the point in the whole series!. And which I agree to 100%.

I disagree with the doctor who easily said ‘what is there to be scared if your kids have autism?’. It was an uncaring remark. Getting the diagnosis is a traumatic experience because it is a life changing experience, only the parents who go through it will understand it. Therapy has a big part in making this journey better, especially early intervention. Psychiatrist can only prescribe medicines, which in many cases has adverse side effects. Autism should not be mixed up with mental disorders like depression and trauma, which are psychological disorder, because autism is a neurological disorder and does not appear suddenly in life. Also parents research on internet is a wonderful thing, because they are the ones living with their kids and they know their kids better. I am a parent of a special needs adult and am speaking from experience. Doctors and other professionals should become more compassionate and be very mindful of what they say.

Agreed 👍🏻 It's not easy. Fear is a natural emotion in such cases and it needs care and not ignorance. Just one correction on what you wrote. Trauma is not a mental health disorder, but the incident/impact of the incident that leads to mental health disorders like PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Anxiety, Depression, Personality Disorders etc. Saying being a Complex-PTSD patient who took Cognitive Processing Therapy and medicines for it. :) Tc

I agree cent percent to your comment. Only when you walk a while in someone shoes and experience their experiences, can one truly understand their pain. We are all trying to survive in this world whilst having average rational thinking and development in place - what about the ones who are dependent when it comes to basics like feeding and toilet? It looks fine when its a child in need but when its an adult who is dependent, it will be hard to not be worried about it. But at the same time, yes there are different ways to look at this journey - I guess it takes a lot of mental strength. I am a special needs mum myself - everytime I think I have come to terms with it, something about my child's condition, either a new revelation etc. would be there and I see myself spiraling down again. Next morning, I wake up and I go on with my routines and these anxieties remain at the back of my head - the worries about how my little one would fend for herself in a world where she may not have family around. And I guess, that's when, you truly hope the one in heaven takes care of it all because really, there's only so much you can secure for such children. Not to forget, we are all parents figuring out best options and learning to do this right - its not something that comes with an instructional manual. Much love and prayers to all in this journey.

As an occupational therapist that works with pediatrics with autism and other disabilities I have to say that therapy never claims to fix their disabilities. We train kids to be functional even with the disability. As independent as possible to decrease the burden of care and for the child to have aa much independence in their future.

If the person across is an expert in a field, the objective should be to get him into a flow. At the end, we may have specific questions. This approach is different when one interviews politicians. In that case, we are trying to extract information which they with hold. So approaches should vary in my view.

I told her mom she needs a thorough treatment. They asked counseling porennu. I told if you are not satisfied with homoeopathy not a psychologist she needs a psychiatrist. Athode enikku vanna aa patientum poyikitty😂. Homoeopathic medicines are working with ones mind and Will. Aa kuttye ethra counselling cheyyippichalum prarthichaalum she needs a medicine to control her thoughts. And one more thing I should add. Cause of her condition was strict parents and teachers. Their parenting style was comparing and demanding. In that case parents were the actual ones who need counseling.

I really respect for bringing such a knowledgeable person in this podcast. ADHD is such a complex disorder where there is severe impairement in executive functioning and emotion regulation. Sometimes it may progress to adulthood ruining a person's life. " Unexplained underperformance" , "always being late" , " too much intense emotionality", " severe procastination".....thus goes.....it can reduce one's self esteem too much up to a horrible level. There are a significant amount of population out there , who often presents with anxiety or depressive symptoms with an underlying undiagnosed ADHD condition. Well, let us all hope that every brain health condition will be taken seriously in future. Wish you a happy day!

Just mark his ultimate words ..The way we say mental health issues as mental health problem is very wrong because after all mind is in the brain and all nerve cells work together as an organ.Hence it is an organ malfunction. So this is a physical issue itself. Eg ..what if we didnt have eyes and ears ..but we have skin so everything that touch us turns into a feeling..but unfortunately we have the 2 grt organs eye and the ear which makes it physical. So if we had eyes and ears inside our brain then we could see the mind and hence become physical. The problem is we cant see the mind.Thats why we call it mental disorders but actually the mental disorders are nothing but as common as the physical disorder.

😂 for ADHD they give few medicines, but for ASD nothing. Melatonin for sleep deprivation In the UK, paediatric consultant give no medicines. There were few trial medicines- which is not available too. Dr Philip is highly experienced and knows the nitty gritty of brain cells - and so on. But he is arrogant, looks at common man as clueless, all the more through out the interview, he expresses his frustration and anger towards few professionals, atleast few keralites and their attitudes(I live in UK, what i understand is in comparison with people from others countries, we are no bad!). He should understand that Google and KZbin acts as a solace for parents and people who suffer from various neuronal disorders. I would think of taking my child to Dr Philip, but I wouldn't dare to take his advice - "God has chosen you to take care of a child with ASD"! I will definitely google any medicine a dr prescribe, because, Google definitely has a good database and research which would guide you through and throw light on "several EXPERIENCED DR.'s like this how they think and treat similar conditions". Where qualified medical professionals fail to diagnose, looking at symptoms, AI makes accurate diagnosis. Human memory and database is tiny, in comparison with the current AI algorithms, its database and database. Keeping in mind Mary Shelley's creation, I would say, I would not believe what one or two psychologists diagnose and prescribe. Yes, it's how I can think living this knowledge based society. Wisdom is indeed knowledge and experience, however technology made these wisdom redundant! I love Dr's brain - interpreting Mahabharata and applying into his subjects. I love his brain - for his eloquence, memory, communication and all the more choosing Psychiatry as his specialisation, during 70's. I love dr for citing therapy cures for ASD & ADHD and the business thriving across the globe to exploit these HELPLESS section in our society, who run from post to pillar. Most parents doesn't realise that ASD improvements they notice in children could JUST be NATURAL progression, and nothing from therapies.
