@ksass I just cut some 1 3/4" aluminum bar stock to the desired length. You can also run a stack of large washers taped together.
@kennethalcorn71049 жыл бұрын
thanks for that doing mine tomorrow
@seymour8616 жыл бұрын
Yeah what I didn't show was that I tacked the strut tubes in 8 places before actually welding them. And as for the motor oil that sounds like a cool trick.
@RadicalRevs14 жыл бұрын
@seymour86 awesome thanks. Funny I was just checking this out when this message popped up. I just finished the shortening of the casings I just gotta wait till Gabe ships them sleeves out. Thanks fer your help I gotta check that out. I thought the voice sounded like Danzig for a second I couldnt tell but it fits..
@seymour8614 жыл бұрын
@RadicalRevs DOM tubing stands for Drawn Over Mandrel. Which means that it is seamless. You should be able to get 4 feet of it at any metal supply wherehouse for under $30. I get mine from Industial metal Supply in Sun valley CA. And yeah I just run a bead along the bottom. Also FYI the Agx's are a little fatter than the HTS . So if you get a little bit of penitration on the back side of the butt weld the dampers wont fit. You can run a 1.75" hole saw down the casing when you are done.
@Sojuiced9016 жыл бұрын
nice job on the conversion
@seymour8615 жыл бұрын
The megans come with instructions. I have dome a set though they are not hard at all. You basically take your strut casings apart so they are empty. You cut 40mm above the top of the spindle so you end up with the spindle with 40mm of tube coming off the top of it. Then you slide them inside the bottom of the megan set and weld them together either with the MIG or TIG process.

great video and welding!
@seymour8613 жыл бұрын
@chrisls1pro you can use washers stacked up or 1.75" solid aluminum bar.
@seymour8614 жыл бұрын
@tybryant The actuall materias to do the conversion were less than $30. Its basically one piece of DOM tubing the rest is cutting and welding. As far as parts go this set was somewhere around $1100 give or take.

If you can't remove the inserts I think you might be up a creek. You might have to go with a sleeve that sits on top on the OEM pearch. As far as the perches I use It is just DOM tubing that I cut. And these are for the fronts. The rear on my car is a solid rear axle.
@GilBatesLovesyou13 жыл бұрын
Thank you for these videos, it's quite thorough? What happens if you got a compressor, but no impact gun? Also, what would happen if I didn't cut the spring perch off, and just went for a 4 or 6 inch spring and just put the coilover on top of the stock perch?

now thats kickass coilover rig! and dude, u look like steve the pirate from dodge ball!! hahaha peace!
@seymour8614 жыл бұрын
@TheRaptuready are you talking about the coilover sleeves?If so the recessed side goes down. The perches that come with the set fit inside the recess but I am not using that perch I like to use a thicker perch that the whole sleeve will sit on. and you can use O-rings to keep them from rattling. I am not running o-rings on mine and i dont hear them rattling, but the again my car has straight pipe for exhaust so I cant hear much.

Thumbs up for Atmosphere - Travel Dope ass song. Also, I'm guessing this is the proper way to lower a hachi since you can't just bolt on coilovers like on an s-chassis.

I would also say maybe find a freind with a car and go out to some local grassroots drift days that way you can talk to some drivers and see what they are running and make some friends. Friends help out alot with these cars as everyone I know with an AE86 has at least a few parts just lying around as will you after a while.
@seymour8614 жыл бұрын
@drifterzdoitsidewayz I have heard some of the older 240 Z guys do a similar set up I dont see why it wouldnt work in your situation but I dont know what dampers the Z31 guys are running I would check out some Z31 forums for some more in depth info.

@RadicalRevs14 жыл бұрын
Very nice video. Got me doing this to my own ae86 except Im gonna use KYB AGX's couldnt afford them HTS's which look real nice. I can see that this has been asked multiple times but.. where did you get that perch? Where can I buy the tubing to make it and of what DOM tubing? You just ran a bead along the bottom of the perch? Lastly at the end in the credits, what song is playing?

Saw the question already asked... I had one more question .. So if I cut 60mm off the tube would I loose suspension stroke compared to Using the 20mm spacers? Couldn't I just raise the sleave to raise it since it would be almost or dumped to the ground or would it way too low Doing it this week and wanna do it right
@chrisls1pro14 жыл бұрын
I'm abt to do this to my ae86 instead of buying Megan coilovers cause I already have the coilovers sleves and camber plates.. I was wondering where u got the the 20mm spacers from....
@seymour8614 жыл бұрын
@amillionminds Honestly the the only way to get good at welding is practice. I remember When I first started welding I thought I was doing it wrong but it was just my lack of time behind the hood. I HIGHLY recomend any one that wants to learn how to weld to check out there local community colleges.That way you can go burn through there rod, cupons and gas usually for a way lower cost than it would to do it at your place.

hey thnks guy for the tips I¨ll be using that. once more, thnks for helping the little guy :P
@seymour8613 жыл бұрын
@chrisls1pro you would loose stroke. Even if you raised it up all the way you would still be 20mm lower.
