Great video/series! But it is quicker to use PowerShell to move the roles and then use netdom to confirm they moved correctly Move-ADDirectoryServerOperationMasterRole -Identity "NAMEOFSERVER" -OperationMasterRole 0,1,2,3,4 Edit Typo

amazing video series, really helping me a lot. one question - in my DNS zones on WS2K3 DC there is no _msdcs zone only the domainname zone - do i create this zone first before doing further steps? i have already added WS2K12 as an addiitional DC and DNS is also updated. On both servers this _msdcs zone is not present. i havent started with WS2K19 yet

Do you have _msdcs zone on server 2012 DC? You can manually create that zone and do the replication with other DC.

@@MSFTWebCast no the _msdcs zone isnt there on 2012 DC as it wasnt there on 2003 server either. i do have _msdcs zone under the expanded view of domain zone. is it necessary to create this zone? if yes, please guide steps to create it thanks

@@talhashakil5688 It contains some important forest-wide resource records. So we need it. Just like normal DNS zone, you can create it . make sure you give a right name (e.g. _msdcs.yourdomain.com). The DNS zone should be Active Directory Integrated with forest-wide all DNS server replication scope. Let me know how it goes.

@@MSFTWebCast i created it. GUI replication is ok. But when 2k3 is offline 2k12 has nothing it says PDC emulator nit found and domian controller not connecting. I checked showrepl and replsummary from cmd there are errors. All fsmo roles are transferred too Can you guide further here? If you provide paid support i am fine with that too.
